[Poll] Which Profession?

NoEndInLifeNoEndInLife Member Posts: 189

I figured that with the whole new videos, the necromancer revealed, seeing everything in action and basically everything we got from gamescom ppl might have differchanged their mind about the profession they were initially going to try out first.

I'm stuck between Ranger and Necro :)

=0...stuck between elementist and ranger! =)

It's kinda cruel to kill the innocent monsters standing in the fields picking daisies. -GW2-

I'll wait to see if they introduce mesmers and ritualists first.  But, given the selections available, I would go with necromancer.

    Necromancer of course -

Green and black magic, the "auto attack" (guessing) in video looks great! Only thing is now I don't know what to expect from 3 of the remaining 4 classes. One must be a rogue/assassin type. Not a bad thing though.

I hate that all games have to stick a pet on the ranger... come ooon! screw the pet, get rid of it, figure out new ways to make them viable, I love rangers, but I hate micro managing that damn thing.

Haven't decided if I'm gonna try this game yet, but if I do, I think I will go Warrior, for the above reason.

I played through Prophecies with a Necro so I may probably do that again with GW2: The Lands of Tyria (I made that up mind you).

Although I'm definitely up for trying out the new classes and playing the others in PvP.

    This is not a game.

All professions look really strong, especially after seeing the latest demos.

A RDPS sorta warrior is a tempting build, the elementalist has huge versitily it seems, but I like both the Necomancer and Ranger more than these two. I'd have to go for Ranger just pipping Necromancer. I'd like to see how diverse they can be and how Pets evolve and still not sure what the Ranger Elite Skill is either? Think this profession could be the most interesting in the long run, especially with traps etc.

I have to agree. Necros were fun, but nothing matched the fun I had playing a mesmer.

    - As for rangers having pets. I'm not sure exactly how  they'll handle it in GW2, but in GW1 they were entirely optional. You did not need a pet to be viable as a ranger, and there were pleanty of builds that actually threw out the pet in favor of other skills. (Basically in order to have a pet you had to foresake a couple crucial skill slots in order to have one / keep it alive).

As awesome as being able to engulf yourself in pure darkness would be - I'm gonna probably skip both ranger and necro because of the pets - not a fan of that type of class mechanics.  Elementalist and warrior look more up my alley (I was an elementalist in GW1, but warrior looks amazing now).  However, there's no way I can make a final decision until I've seen all the classes!

The one they were using in the demos is "Rampage as one".

    This is not a game.

Not all games. I didn't remember aion having ranger with a pet and I'm almost sure that hasn't changed since SM is the true pet class in that game.

No pets for AoC Ranger either. Maybe traits will affect if you will be a pet focused Ranger or more like a sharpshoot/sniper or wilderness survival type.

They said that pets are the ranger's core mechanic so I'm not so sure man. Sucks you constantly need a pet but when you think about it it's not all bad I guess.

elementalist if there is no mesmer

    I need more vespene gas.

The Necromancer seems to have the most intruiging gameplay so far, deathshroud seems like a really effective skill when managed correctly

warrior most likely, Or something that wields dual pistols.

  • savbasavba Member UncommonPosts: 13

After seeing the professions revealed; so far I like the look of the Elementalist. Out of the classes he seemed more skill/twitch based . I get the feeling you could employ some great strategy mind games with his skill-set . I'm hoping mesmer are in the game because that could be a top contender for the 1st class I roll.

  • WreckoniingWreckoniing Member UncommonPosts: 279

Mesmer were indeed an interesting class to play in the first guild wars, One of my favourite.

Yea, I already played a Ranger to 50 in Aion, and I liked it, but when you hit 50 in Aion the game is over, the end... unless you want to throw your life away to farm miragent lol.

Someone else mentioned AoC, I tried AoC but couldn't stick with it unfortunatly...

But you guys can't argue that for most games, they stick a pet on the ranger, and it annoys me :'(

Mesmers were pretty cool. If they bring them back in GW2 I'm hoping they will have the ability to make some real illusions as in things you can see visually.

An example would be conjure Phantasm. Would be cool if they actually conjured a Phantasm. And who knows... maybe the Phantasm could steal energy, do damage, etc.

I want to play a necro and I hope they will be fun to play; it's my favorite class and if a game says will have it, I become more interested in the game. I am sure I'll enjoy playing them, as I enjoy every class I try, but I want to love them :)

I do want to try the ranger and ele too and the other caster. I don't think I'll be playing warrior, they just dont really attract me since I find the other classes more intriguing.

  • therez0therez0 Member Posts: 379

Originally, I was going to play my usual first character--the lightning caster--but the attunement system for the Ele looks like it would break my RP style of only using lightning skills; I would hate being put into positions where I group with people and then they expect me to go out of character by swapping attunes mid battle :

Also, no swords for Eles is also a non-selling point for me; I loved playing the Meleementalist in the original (tho, people I grouped with called me crazy suicidal noob; when I would go in with conjure lightning + Hundred Blades spam (pre-nerf)--lots of damage, but very low life and armor).

So, for me, I'm gonna have to wait and see if I can cope with the attunement thing, or maybe find a different class to play first from the ones not yet announced ('cause the other choices so far just ain't my style).
