I really hope I will enjoy this game as currently I'm not playing any MMO...

It will be very interesting to see the open beta reaction....

Very very very very very disappointed with this game! I thought I could play this until GW2 and SW: TOR comes out but nope. A lot will be cancelling their pre-orders during open beta, no doubt.

If your are going to try the open beta, PLEASE go in with an open mind and realization that most of the games content won't be in the open beta.  Also don't go in expecting a WoW, Lotro, WAR, EQ2 or other game experience because you won't get it.

  • EvilGeekEvilGeek Member UncommonPosts: 1,258

Open Betas  aren't always as open as we'd like these days, let's hope it's open to all.

I'd encourage anyone whose system can handle it and has a vague interest to give it a go, definitely  worth at least a look in OB.

Couldn't agree more, don't expect a typical MMO.

Actually they already said that during open beta pretty much all the content that will be available at launch will be in open beta.  So in the interest of not misleading others what you see in open beta will be pretty much what you get at launch.  But he is right its not like any other mmo out there.  Its worse....

And this is why games fail, because Beta tests are full of people who just want to try the game instead of actually testing.

No this has nothing to do with why games fail.  Games fail because devs fail to listen to the long term testers that were trying to give them good input during all the closed phases.  Open beta the game is done this is what its going to launch as, now we just want a ton of people to play the game so we can stress test our servers and see how the game handles with thousands and thousands of players.  So Rob play your ass off thats what open beta is for,  just beware that the game may run a little shitty cuz this will be the first time any real numbers have played this game all at once.

OMG wow thank you so much! I mean... I was thinking I'd maybe try this game because I really enjoy MMOs, and I've been a FF fan ever since I was 8 years old, but dude, you telling me this game is worse than any other mmo, without any empyrical or anecdotal evidence to even support your own subjective opinion, has single-handedly warded me off from ever playing this game.  Thank you so much!

The others who frequent this forum should be forever in your debt.  You have saved them from playing a game you do not like.  I know you have saved me.  Hallelujah!

What does that mean? In any Open Beta I have participated in you receive a pretty reasonable reflection of the high-level game experience. Will features be added/modified? Of course. Will some functionality not be available? Absolutely. However, Open Beta often "makes or breaks" launch. I can't figure out if the "typical MMO" stance means that FFXIV will be missing a lot of the features you see in the other "AAA", or if it just means it will be missing those features during beta.

  • augustgraceaugustgrace Member UncommonPosts: 628

I hope they listen to feed back and make some changes for open beta, or there are going to be a lot of irate gamers.

Have you ever played FFXI? If not then that is why you are trying to compare this game to ANY AAA MMO. YOu just can't. Heck, FF could be a genre to itself, really, for how it does things different than everyone else.

    Great game.

    Three biggest issues atm are

    - Shitty UI

It's so shit it's hard to describe, looting takes like 5-6 clicks, there's 1-5 sec lag between doing things, and like 100 other issues.

    - Extremely high system requirements

Got 8800gt and 5-10 fps @ low details @ 1680x1050. Won't preorder unless they change it in open beta, which is doubtful. I know this isn't high-end graphics card, but ffs, this is MMO, not Crysis.

    - Lag

Pretty bad, but I believe this will get fixed for open beta

Also, don't expect your typical MMO - it's VERY different from, let's say, WoW.

Open mind is required. Don't come crying it's not WoW or it has anime-like characters.

FFXI wasn't a genre.. It was a lifestyle. An all comsuming all devouring 24/7 lifestyle that never lets go! Well, at least it use to be..its far easier and more casual these days :D

I can run at max settings with a geforce GTX 470, and IMO it looks better then cysis.. but thats also becuase of the visual style... o and I mean origional crysis..not warhead or 2...

but yeah.. graphics and music are by far the best things going for it atm...

Hopefully OB is early...early september. The 1st would be preferable.

I know, it was just an example, like you know:

Making a game that has high requirements, sell it using high hype and don't give a damn later because you don't need to

    vs

Making a game that has high requirements and get thousands of raging fanboys on forum after first 15 minutes of playing

I don't understand them honestly... why they decided to limit their playerbase by such a shitty move.

It's even more funny because they want to get casual players and, afaik, casuals tend to have mainstream/low-end computers

Whatever, we'll see in open beta i guess.

Well how many people complained about the ps2 holding back the PC for FFXI graphics. In a few years people on PC may be complain about that old darn ps3 holding FFXIV PC graphics back lol...
