To prevent that then they should make just like FFXI where you do not get crystals from gray mobs.

And  yeah it would be good to get more info on how the LS's are going to be running.

It's probably safe to assume that grey mobs will have extremely low drop rates of everything, as they've stated that they want to minimize griefing & RMT (which would be crazy easy if you could mass farm em).  Even in FFXI it was a tad rough to find a crawler anywhere reasonable early on...but in time they tweaked drop rates to make it far less appealing for high level folks to grind newbie mobs:  let's hope they do the same (off the bat this time) in FFXIV :)

Oh and ty for the post, thought my head my explode if I keep trying to parse FFXIVcore as easily (memory overflow, lol)

    Edit:  spelling

I just heard that SE won't allow a digital download of the game.

Is this only for the CE? or for the regular edition as well?

Good job on OP, the companies concept sounds interesting. I wonder if it will be possible to have a single company as your end game group while having additional linkshells to keep in touch with friends. Would be great if you could receive important updates from company while in other linkshells.

Thanks for the writeup. I may get flamed for this but I have never played a Final Fantasy game before (sue me), but I guess now is a good time to start as any, right? :) I'll definately be buying this.

The only thing that really worried me was the Conjurer class. It's a healer/buffer and a NUKER all wrapped in one? Isn't that a little overpowered? Wouldn't alot of people want to make this class cause they get to heal, buff and do lots of dps?

I might be jumping the gun, but I was kinda confused when I read that.

You can only equip set amount of spells and skills, so it's not like you can be the best healer and the best nuker at the same time.

It has not been confirmed by SE at least.

FFXI is available in Steam, it wouldn't be a big stretch to assume XIV will be made available too. Maybe not initially, but soon after.

ok ive read good and bad about the game , but i have faith that itll be a good game when finished,or a few patches later.  My only real concern right now is (and someone please correct me if im wrong is ...) if i start out doing one skill and put my stats towards one  type of play style, what if later on  i go in a diferent direction ,  will i be gimped or is there some sort of reset.  i really liked leveling several classes and we all know how people get if your stats are a few lower than they could be :(

Good read, but this somehow annoyed me tremendously ...

Maybe you should at this as a 3rd filter.

Hopefully, open beta won't shy me away from the game.

My question now is will there be an option to purchase a digital copy? Last time I checked there was only physical boxes...

I played C-Beta and the game is awesome.  I really like the story elements in the game....very in-depth and not vanilla story telling like other mmo's....actually feels like an RPG.  The questing is fun and the fact you can solo is nice for me seeing as I have 0 friends that play mmo's and Im pretty anti-social...My opinion is that if anyone is looking for an MMO thats quite a bit different from the others (in a good way), pick this game up...I know I am.

    Thanks.

In other games you put items for sale in Auction House or the likes.

In FFXIV, you give your items to your Retainer NPC to sell at your own Marketplace.

It's hard to say how exactly it will function, with S-E you never know :D.

This is a fantastic community builder with respect to people who like to craft and trade, adds more depth to the game.... The more i hear the more I wonder if I have missed a good game here.

There are also 8 or is it 12 vendor stalls along the walls; inside the dozen or so Market Wards of each City-State.  And if you're quick enough, you can opt to pay 100gil per day to have your Retainer stand inside a stall where you'll be more easily found within the masses of other players and retainers out on the floor.

You can reset your stat points and element points and switch around your skills whenever you want :)  That is the biggest feature of the game, complete freedom in how you want to design your character.

i got intrested in this game but i have some questions , hope someone here could help me...

how narrow are the paths ? i mean.. i've seen some gameplay videos and i noticed in the mini-map that some paths are really narrow, how open the world really is ? does it has an exploration feeling while you run through the map ? Those teleports you talked about, how often do you need to use them ?   how many times you think "i wish i could jump" while playing ? does the game have Instanced areas/maps like AOC ?

at last (for now) How heavy is the grind ?

alot of questions, but i hope someone can answer them...

Nice post btw ! i was clueless about alot of things you wrote... thanks alot !

The world is completely open.  Of course there are some thin paths and caves, but majority of the world is just one big open field.  It would take you an extremely long time to walk from one end to the other.  It can even take awhile just to walk back from a quest location to town, which is why there is the teleport system, to relieve SOME of the walking.  You only have so many teleport points (called Anima) so while you could use it all the time, eventually you wouldn't be able to at all.  I'm not sure how you recharge Anima.  Most of the time you just use it when you want to go back to town or to a quest location.  If your a casting class, you can use it to return to an Aetheryte to recharge your mana.

I played FFXI for 4 years and never felt the need to jump, and dont feel the need in FFXIV either.  Unless your going to have 'jump across the platforms' or similar quests, it usually unnecessary and FFXIV doesn't have them so...yeah, IMO you never feel the need to jump because theres no situations you would need it.

does the game have Instanced areas/maps like AOC ?

I heard there are, I haven't personally experienced one.  When you do quests, the monsters you need to kill spawn in the open world, but they are bound to you, so no one else can kill them.  Someone else will have to answer this one, sorry.

at last (for now) How heavy is the grind ?

As heavy as you want to make it.  The more classes you try out and crafts you level up, the less grindy it will feel.  If your the type who only wants to focus on one class all the time, you'll probably end up feeling like you have to grind because they limit the amount of quests you can do solo in a day.

I didn't see an overall links & sources thread, but it would be a shame if this video got lost in the jungle of threads, I think this is the best explanation there is of the Fatigue system. Can it be added maybe in the OP of this thread?

Will House system be available at release ?

  • VikingGamerVikingGamer Member UncommonPosts: 1,350

There will be a housing system. The speculation was that it would be available at release but I haven't seen anything solid on this yet.

I lost the source, but I recall housing was one of the features that'll be released after launch, but definately before ps3 launch.  So weeks or months until we see it I imagine.

There is just one thing I can't find an answer for - is there going to be a single subscription fee for both the PC and PS3 versions? I mean, I know that everyone will play on the same servers, but what about clients and subscriptions? I own both PC and PS3 and I'm curious if I can, for instance, start playing on PC now, and when the PS3 version is released, just download the client for free and keep playing both? Or will I have to buy the boxed PS3 version? Or maybe get the boxed version and pay second subscription for the same account?

Any ideas? How did it look like with FFXI? Kinda lost, don't know what to do now, I might just wait for the PS3 release.

    Thanks.
