Agree with the poster who said posting on forums/betaing/getting caught up in the drama of random people arguing about a game that isn't out yet is a great way to ruin it for you.  FFXIV will be a successful mmo whether trolls or fanboys want it to be or don't.  It will be what it is and many will play it.  Haters will hate and move on and probably spread misinformation and then one day maybe come back and try it or maybe just keep sticking to the hating.

Regardless the forum population of any MMO represents like 1-2% of the games community and they often don't share the general consensus.  You have to form your own opinions.  Don't let fanboys or trolls tell you how to feel about a game.  People are biased by nature.

You just need to ignore the haters / fanboys. I feel extremely priveledged to have been apart of FFXIV from the beginning. It has soured my enjoyment / anticipation for the actual release one bit.

But I agree, any fansite forum is going to have its fair share of biased cynics / fanboys.

Play a class for maximum of 15 hours and have to wait 30 days for fatigue reset  and xp gain restart, can be tollerable for a free game but sure not for 15$ month, it's 1$ hour lol.

You know the real reasonon for limit a class to 15 hours month ? Game content without blocking levelling will last less than 3 days of played.

You can play all day and level a fighter , a crafter and a gatherer to the xp lock but still you will advance same as one playing jsut one class.

Ffxiv levelling is time locked , that's it.

I'll be waiting to form an opinion from open beta or a free trial of the game. I stopped going head first into mmo's after the warhammer, AoC, Aion debacles... I'm tired of paying 60 bucks for a game and only playing for a month.

Mind you I just picked up ff 13 and i'm loving it.

That is in combat time.  I played my pugilist for well over 30 hours and never even hit the 8 hour surplus mark.  The way an average person plays would probably be able to play 40-60 hours before the system really hinders them.  90% of the playerbase will never even see the fatigue system on a regular basis.

I am not a big fan of it, but people are blowing it way out of proportion and most of the time they don't even know how it works.

In beta surpluss was bugged for many so no kicking in.

This are new final numbers from SE jsut from tanaka:

"Within the first eight hours of play, you can earn 100% experience. The seven hour period following will see your possible experience gradually approach zero. This system is on a weekly timer. After a week has passed since you began skilling that particular weapon, the timer will reset. It will start anew when you skill up again. Any experience earned past that point is saved as "surplus." There is surplus for each class, and if you begin to see it please consider playing another class and adjust accordingly. However, experience points are not specific to any class and therefore the decrease in experience points is not affected by changing classes. That's how the system stands as of right now."

Player1: Hey, we could really use your mage skills for the Mountain Skull quest.

Player2: Sorry man, I'm capped for the week.

So basically, the first 2 days after the weekly reset, the server will be completely mobbed. By day 6 and 7 - ghost town.

I said Yes but and yes there is a but  here, I don't think the "open beta" will be truly open. I think it will be by invite only again.

All those who registered a beta key through the summer and how ever many they feel will be needed for a mass stress test/fixes test. I think the open means the gag order will be lifted (it's a way to get free press and even bad press is good).

I haven't received an invite and if I don't get to play this last beta (and here comes the but again) I won't buy the game. I simply can't afford to buy a game I am not sure I will like.

SE already said that they really leaving out lots of content (like the storyline quests, most of them) from the OB, I don't think OB will be a good judge of the release version when. Its technically missing the most important parts.

It seems more to me like they're saying- "We're giving you a large incentive to play more of the game other than leveling until your brain falls out, such as socializing, shopping or crafting.  We spent all this time making 'peripheral' systems great and we want you to check them out and enjoy them."

I know it's hard to conceive of a pve-based mmorpg about more than just leveling and grinding, but it looks like we're going to get one, finally, and I for one am very excited.

Oh dear how naive. I hear this statment being made in all new mmo's. The game is being released in less than 4 weeks, so its going to the DVD pressers very soon indeed !

Sdeleon, LOVE THE POST!!! I laugh all day at these supposed mmo experts that seem to have nothing but bad things to say about every new mmo coming out.  I love mmos but I could pick out things I cant stand about every one on the market.. The difference with me and these clowns is i choose not to post every single bad point to a game and blow it out of proportion.  I would really love to know the perfect mmo all these people are playing so I can try it.  Call me crazy but I enjoy trying new games with different controls and story and game play. Thats so silly of me I know.  I for one will be playing FF14 and more then likely give all the newer mmo's a shot. If they suck I will move on to the next one.

I played in closed beta and like another poster said, people are turning a pile of beans into a mountain. I actually never had any problems, the game play was excellent, especially with the ability combining and what not. Crafting was excellent, really well done. Fatigue system not bad at all, rarely did it affect me. A lot of things people hear is misconstrued so badly (some of the information intentionally misleading by trollers) that people automatically assume doomsday. The game definitely reached my top 5 mmo experiences of all time during Beta 3, and that was in beta--I never like betas. So I say the only way you can get a valid opinion of whether you will like it is if you play it for yourself in open beta. Fatigue system, really not bad, really it adds a uniqueness to the game. Read the article on it on this website if you all are confused of what it really is, it's not based on time but on thresholds which automatically start refilling as soon as you start playing a new class.  It just promotes multiple class usage, so if you chose to level 2-3 classes, for me it's going to be (1 DPS, 1 Tank, 1 Craft) then you may never reach a threshold.

I , for one have been playing mmos since the days of neverwinter nights on AOL and MUDS.  Much like many in this thread, I will just wait and see how the game pans out.  I see the positive and negatives of most of the ideas being implented in FF XIV.  I will give this game the same chance I give any game.  I learned a long time ago with these kinds of games you just have to wait and see what works and what doesnt.  I never expected to like Dark Ages of Camelot.  It was a pvp game and frankly I just suck at PvP in most games due to my physical disabilities, BUT, I tryed it and low and behold I found that playing a cleric and healer in PVP was fun.  More fun then I had ever imagined.  The old rush from ultima online and pk fighting was back.  So that game taught me that I wont know how I really feel about these games until I give it a try.  I liked FF XI, I just went into the game too late and most of the starting crowd was gone.  I find the back story and setting awesome, and atleast its not cookie cutter fantasy either.  I have enjoyed playing the console versions on about 80% of the stuff Square Enix has released, I will trust them to at the very least give me a invigorating story for my 50 bucks.  If I get more then 2 weeks of enjoyment out of it then Ive already made back what on the average I spend on a console game anyway for the same amount of time.  If I love it and keep playing then 15 bucks a month is a heck of alot cheaper then the next 50 bucks i would have spent to try out some other title or bought another console game to fill my gaming void.   Let me just say for the record I dont think anyons "opinion" is wrong in this thread even though some could be less violent in their execution.  I think people just need to reexamine the old cliche "dont judge a book by its cover".  Try out the open beta see if you like it, if you dont no biggie, any changes they make after the game goes live still wont completely change the world itself just some of its mechanics.

    My two cents anyway

Well one can only hope that they improve everything from CB3 to open.

But from what i read, they will be adding more monsters, more actions, more crafting and more leves.  So it seems they are adding more content.

oh and new cities !  I for one am keeping both my CE pre orders
