its kinda stupid. If they dont let me in i wont buy it becasue i dont know if my system can run it and if its worth the cash. I like the art the classes the world looks nice but no idea i have to try it first! I ran benchmark had 3500 score but still no idea if its enough ;p
Well, I have seen a few places on line that say this is going to be really an Open Beta. SE will put people in check when server is congested and say to try again in so many minutes. If this is true, I will not only be very surprised but pleasantly so.
If anyone knows where its possible to download the client before let me know please. Last times I downloaded from Square Enix the speeds where really crappy and took days even with a 100mbit line connection. So hopefully they changed it but I rather have it ready before the Open beta starts, thanks.
Erm.. that's.. not, an open beta. That would be a closed beta, yes?
Any word on this? I'd be interested in checking this out, because I imagine there will never be a free trial.
Sadly, at this point we can only speculate on how exactly it's gonna work. So far, Square Enix has been telling that it's an open beta and they can't wait to see everybody participate, on the other hand, they've asked for closed beta users to register their keys so that they can be renewed for open beta.
The best explanation I've heard so far is Open Beta will have a couple of stages and the first wave are gonna be closed beta users, who will play it for a week or two and only after that everybody will be able to join. After Square Enix has tested that the servers are stable and will hold the load, and that the new content they've added doesn't have some horrible bugs that were missed before releasing the new client, it might finally be open for everybody to log in and enjoy Eorzea.

Ok, so the Open Beta is the 1st until??? the 15th maybe?? Headstart for preorders is set at the 22nd and live on the 30th right? I'ld assume at least 2 days in between Open Beta and Headstart to make any last minute changes. Or do you think they will run Open Beta all the way up to the 22nd? Also I heard a rumor abou them allowing name reservations from Open Beta into Live if you play on the same server, anyone else have info on that?

I hope I can play this too. Most of my parts are high-end. Only thing that needs to be updated, is my cpu. It's not dual-core. I have 4g memory and a gforce 9600 though, so here's to hoping...

That should be suffcient depending on hardrive space and CPU/RAM speed. Don't expect to max out your settings but you should be able to play it decently at min. settings.
The details for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test are described below.
Operating ProcedureSchedule:Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 19:00 (PDT) / 02:00 (GMT)
*The Open Beta Test will be online continuously for 24 hours a day.
*Log-in Capacity
During the initial stages of the beta test, the number of players allowed to be logged in at any given time will be limited, with capacity to gradually increase as adjustments are performed on server load. Should the maximum capacity already be reached when you attempt to log in, a message will appear indicating that the world is currently congested, and you will be asked to try again in a short while. At this time you will be placed on a waiting list in the order of attempted log-in time. To maintain your position on the waiting list, you must initiate the log-in procedure again within ten minutes of your first attempt.
Confirmed. And for those who need translation 1900PDT/0200GMT is 10PM EST August 31.
So it's open beta but still invite only? That makes it a closed beta.
According to you. "Open beta" has been used to mean "everyone allowed", "nda dropped", and "more people allowed in(not everyone)". It seems SE is going toward the 3rd version.
Are you sure there are going to be OB keys? It seems like the limiting they mentioned is through the login servers where it will put the person in a queue. It havn't read anything about OB keys other than from threads in this forum.

Lowdos, does that means you do not need a key for OB?

Everything I have read looks like there are no keys for OB. I do however think we will see TONS of threads about how they haven't gotten into OB for days after the 1st. Tryin to login, getting the 'congested, please try again' message, and hitting it again within 10 minutes, over and over will most likely freak some people out I'm sure. After which we will probably have all those 'the sky is fallin' posts and the 'see I told you this game would fail' threads, or the infamous 'this game sucks because I can't log in' posts.
Anyway, it should be entertaining come the 1st, login or not.

That would probably be the case if this was old school, but it sounds like its gonna have a "queue" that some of these newer mmos nowadays have so players wont freak out since it will tell them right now "You are 12038219019282 in the queue and must wait approximately 22000 hours to be admitted to the game world"

Actually, the above is what I read on the SE page notice as well as quoted here. So I wouldnt' expect a modern queue system, as they have already stated that will not be the case. Login attempt, notice of capactiy, try again in under 10 minutes or go to the back of the line.

looks like OB will be avail to all within a certain threshold which will increase throughout OB.
This certainly is news to me, I could have sworn it was stated 10th on the beta forums *shrugs*
So if was in a closed beta then I am automatically qualified to be in open beta? Thanks.
What video card do you have?

This is what I thought as well.
So is it true that you can transfer your character names from Open Beta to Release? If so...damn it, I want to get in on it.
I like how they r limiting non NA people so they can't login to their NA accounts any more.... just in time for open beta!
Frigging didn't get accept into EU closed beta, only the NA one.

People will scream because they need more server and that when the game go out they want to be able to play and bla. bla. bla...
But it's a OB, trying to test the servers slowly... People won't understand, one thing is sure, it will be funny!
