Actually, the above is what I read on the SE page notice as well as quoted here. So I wouldnt' expect a modern queue system, as they have already stated that will not be the case. Login attempt, notice of capactiy, try again in under 10 minutes or go to the back of the line.

Oh sweet you are right, it sounds kind of an odd system since it still uses a queue but requires you to constantly log in (you would think it would be one or the other), however, I actually like the spam log in better than queues anyway because I'm old school and crazy like that.  Definitely looking forward to the beta and I do hope that all this talk of OB keys is just misinformed.

Man, I am getting tired of people who post information when they have no clue what the truth is.  Can't people just keep their mouth shut unless they have validated information to pass along to us?

Everyone knows that open beta means that either it is either open to everyone for free or open to people who jump through a simple hoop, e.g. pre-order, subscribe to one of their other games, subscribe to a gaming site, etc.  Since none of you know which it is, let's just all find out in the next couple of days for sure and then let everyone know in these forums.

Please don't listen to anyone who says that open beta is "invite only" as those folks are a bit clueless.

Now here is my opinion (not validated):  Anyone can play the open beta because SE will be using the open beta period to determine how many servers/hardware it needs to integrate into their product in order to handle the live day volume.  It is also required as part of their marketing effort since they are pretty confident that most of the open beta players will be pleased with the limited content they are presented with; = word of mouth hype.    You will know what I am talking about when you start seeing the commercials on cable TV channels in the next week or so until release.

As far as I known ... HD4850 is plenty enough for high graphics in this game

Question : no new client link download or I have to use that slow-thingy launcher to download ?

I actually think this system will work better than the queue one most other games use. This one will stop the sleep-queue people dead in thier tracks. There wont be the screen shots of 12875928 people in queue when 70% of that number went to bed 2 hours ago and just left it in queue to hold everyone else back - just in case. This way, your either actively available to login and play when its your turn or your not and your removed from the queue in 10 minutes. Sure, this may suck for all you day shift people, but well...I dont work day shift so umm...yeah...not my problem. :)

Any word on sign ups for open beta?

I didn't bother applying for closed beta as to much of the content was limited/removed, but it sounds like OB will allow access to the very least all 3 nations, plus i'd like to test my system and a few other small things.

The entry site still has that message from closed beta, figured they would have updated it by now unless they plan on letting anyone d/l the client and log in..?

Square Enix Account Management System Maintenance (Aug. 30)

At the following time, we will be performing maintenance on the Square Enix Account Management System. Please be advised that users will not be able to access the Square Enix Account Management System during this period.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

    [Date & Time]

    From Aug. 30, 2010 21:00 to Aug. 31, 2010 2:00 (PDT)

    * Maintenance completion time may be subject to change.

I wouldn't expect much information until after this maintenance is completed. Could be something on Twitter, but I doubt you will see much on the site until after this.

WoW's "open" beta was limited to 100k testers.

Open beta for popular IPs means open only to a number of individuals. Less popular IPs have open for everyone because usually those that beta it will play it, and they will be lucky to start with 100k users.

With that said... I wish they had more accurate information out on how you can participate in this open beta.
