Not that I know of.  I shut down every extra process on my comp and let it run all night to gain 1%, then it gained  about 40% during the day.  It'll sit at 0 b/s for long periods and then slowly start up again.

I am surprised they havent fixed it yet. It takes about 10-14 hours to download and update FF 11 a few years ago with a 100/10 mbit line. And it they still havent fixed the download speeds ?

All I can say is that I downloaded off of straight Bittorrent, and I never hit anything less than my max download speed the entire download. If your ports are set up correctly and you're not using Square's crappy downloader I don't see how there should be a problem here.

I went nuts for 3 days trying to get the beta client to do anything other than download at 0-3 Kb/s. I did that recommended opening of every proper port and i set up a static IP, which did absolutely nothing for me.

I finally said screw it and just opened all 6 files in Utorrent instead and it finished in 3 hours.

Thanks a lot of the tips mate. My download rate went from 46kb/s SE client to 2.1mb/s on utorrent. *Cheers*

Update: Now it reached 2.8 mb/s - pretty good to download the patch in 30 mins :)

  • DameausDameaus Member Posts: 114

trying utorrent fix and i seem to only be connecting to about 30 of the 1500+ peers, and 4 of the 160+ seeders..... neting me a download speed of about 6kbps.... considering i should be around 1meg/s *rolls eyes*

this is just bullshit that we have to jury rig this shit to get it to work....

  • distintdistint Member Posts: 1

Trying the µTorrent fix now. I've gone from 0-20 kB/s on the SE installer to 20-60 kB/s using µTorrent. Which is still crappy. But it's an improvement no the less. sigh...

I don't know what's the configuration on your utorrent guys. But what I did is I've downloaded the patches on different folders then replaced them with the ones on "C:Documents and SettingsmaalmarzooqiMy DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Versiondownloads" directory.

I run the patcher again and it kept processing the patches for about 30 mins with the installation.

I've posted utorrent configuration in the image below it might help with the connections.

Don't forget to open the port in your router/firewall that you've assigned in the "Connection" utorrent menu.

  •     I used the client downloader and it worked fine last night. It was within a few hours of getting the email though so that might have been what did it. I just turned it on and went to sleep. Hope the rest of you have are able to get it downloaded and installed.

it's not that the torrents don't work, it's that SE disabled their trackers so torrent clients can't find peers without DHT. SE is just trying to postpone everything, torrents and all.

everything is configured properly.... 9kbps download.... here i thought blizzard was the only MMO company to be so retarded as to use a P2P DL process for patching/updating....looks like SE is jumping on the fail train as well.

  • NekrataalNekrataal Member Posts: 557

Idk anything about P2P stuff, but could it be that we entered a vicious cycle here?

People aren't happy with their downlaod speed so they limit their uplaod speed thinking it'll free  bandwith for downlaod redcucing the average speed for everyone.

Could it be the reason? Like I said, I know nothing about this stuff. I'm just asking if It could be it.

"Dont select  d964****" ? Then how do you download the file? Im so confused.

Also, my Bittorrent client didnt recognize what I had already downloaded. And the speeds are just as bad.... Really, really weird.

    Also, I'm on a 25MBPS connection.

So I am not usually one to bitch but REALLY? Square Enix can't cobble together a better downloader than this POS. Amazing. I will not judge the game state based on that but lord it is terrible and yes I understand it is beta. People having to to work arounds to get better results, etc.

I will try later tonight but I am not at all impressed by this. I am hoping they took better care with the development of the game itself.

Retaile release is soon so I hope to god they have a better client interface than this in the works.

    they dont... FYI.

people forget that FF11 had about the most ridiculous system for an MMO ever. playonline account or whatever, had to have some crazy long number that you needed EVERY time you reactivated, no server select option so you got stuck on whatever server the game decided, crazy billing cycles, character deletion after only a few months of inactivity.....

SE doesnt seem to have learned much of anything from FF11 from what i can see.

I was getting about 6kbs on uTorrent but after opening the port I'm now getting a steady ~800kbs from Australia.

For help on how to open the port check this website http://portforward.com/

using a bittorrent client works better than the SE updater

if you have partially downloaded de file, go to de documents/my games/final fantasy..../downloads/ffxiv-beta/d96437e6/ folder and copy the .torrent file from the metainfo folder and the .patch file from the patch folder to the folder in wich you bittorrent client put its files

In the vuze client i use doubleclicking in the .torrent file in the bittorrent folder make the vuze start the file in the point it was n the SE updater

downloaded the 50% i needed in 2 and a half hours

after you downloaded it, move the finished .patch file back to the ffxiv-beta/patch folder and run the SE updater again

after it check the dowloaded file it need to download a 9.29Mb file and it istall them after that

P.S. if the small file hangs in the patcher (mine did it after 98%) download it with the bittorrent client same way the big file

FFXI was the most convoluted system I have ever seen to just sign up for a account and log in.  It was almost like they didn’t want you to play the game so made the sign up system horrible.  FFXIV is definitely better but still has a lot of room for improvement.  I wonder if a lot of it is because they need this system to support the PS3?

I downloaded the Fileplanet beta client last night and let it run while I sleep.  Was completely updated when I got up this morning so I guess I was lucky.

Don't forget the "Oh you need to recover your convoluted ID/password? Contact tech support via email and wait several days for it...

I doubt I'll need it, but if I was planning on actually sticking around for release I would be pissed as of the two accounts (had to buy another because surprise surprise, couldn't recover the first one) I can't link either because while I at least have the ID of the 2nd account, I still can't get a password that works with it. ...

FFXI had to go through 3 steps to download a patch. First it would check you system, then it would down load the files, and then it would install the files. The worst part was you would always get a hang up on the second step. SO you would wait to finally be ale to reconnect and once again you had to start at step one with checking your system files.

Not sure how you guys are getting insanely high numbers. I just DL a older movie and was getting around 400KB/s, my torrent goes from 5-60-235kb/s back to 5kb/s

same for everyone.... im pretty sure the folks that SAY they got the DL quickly were just in CB and want to make the game sound "good" by making it seem like its our fault we are downloading slowly.... could be wrong though.

Did the uTorrent thing and I'm getting about 0.8kb/s ... which is better than nothing I guess. See you in-game in a year and eight weeks!

But seriously, any other ideas to speed this thing up? Other torrents run fine ...
