1.5 hours later im still downloading at 9kbps..... this is such a cluster fuck.... why dont they just give us a DDL solution....
i even did all of the port forwarding suggestions that people gave out... have 60 remote connections and 0 local connections.... and keep bouncing between 2kbps and 60 kbps on the official downloader....
people are not going to be OK with this come release when the first patches start rolling out. if i have to patch for more than 2 hours i know i wont even bother playing considering how archaic everything else about this game seems to be. 1 or 2 archaic features i can deal with.... an entire game that just DOESNT GET IT.... not worth my time.

Just give it time. I averaged 400 kb/s. You can limit your upload too if its too high.
Mine is all over the place using the torrent trick. Sometimes its high 300'skb/s sometimes it around 30kb/s.
I am starting to think this is going to be just as bad as FFXI was with the hour to check the updates, and hour to download the updates and another 2 hours to install the downloads.
Some of us have been waiting for this moment for months and then 12 hours before we can final play the open beta they come with this kind of BS. I canceled all my apointments for yesterday because I wanted to play the beta and now this.
i beta testeed a pc game years ago, and we told of the huge bugd, not just garbage bugs, but real game design flaws.they said we were wrong, released it.withing wekks they had a huge patch that addressed the very bugs we told about.

Its a torrent download what do you expect the more people in for the initial seed the slower it goes try every trick you can its still going to be slow for a bit. Its your choice if you don't want to play the title but youll be the first I ever heard fo quiting over slow patch times.....in beta. Of all the things I have read of all the discussions in all the forums this might be the saddest reason I ever head to quit a game.
Why are people complaining about the download time for this when they can't play it yet anyways?? The download time is going to improve as more and more people download it since the downloads pull from files on other people's computers (notice the uploading of data)
Yeah mine has been running allllll day while i have been at work. However, I fully expect to get home and see that bar sitting around 15-20%, not 95%.

I do not understand why they would delay the open Beta unless they were just trying to limit how many people play it before the retail. Unless they move the release date I am not sure what this will ultimately cure. Not sure how moving the open beta back accomplishes anything.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Of course you mean other than fix the issue preventing OB from starting.

It could be because they got a critical bug that needs to be adressed before they let people play it.
Because of critical bugs, FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which is scheduled to begin on Sept. 1, 2010 at 02:00 (GMT), will be postponed.
Critical bugs are just like they sound, they need to be adressed asap for the game to work and for people to be able to play. Othervise they would be called Minor bugs.

Unless they're.... telling the truth? If they found bugs that were major enough, it makes sense that they'd want to fix them so there'd be less complaining when people actually get to try the game.

Could just be that something they were adding in the transitional update between closed and open beta went gnarly on them hence causing the need to postpone until the issue is resolved. I dont think it really has anything to do with limiting the amount of players who try the game before release (after all, open betas are really more of a preview than anything ). Besides, open beta is usually when they do their whole server load test, so they would want as many people as possible slamming the server.
I don't really see a conspiracy in the whole postponing of the OB. All I see is SE caught something and want to have it fixed before a large amount of people enter the game.
It's not the first time a phase of beta in an MMO has been reschedualed.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
I just wish they had left the updater running. Worst updating system ever. 18 hours later, 11.1% because the entire time was spend uploading at full bore, but refusing to download more than maybe 18kbs
Wait....you're telling me there are still bugs in a beta?!? How absurd. The nerve of SE to offer open beta, for free, and then postpone due to a critical bug! HOW DARE THEY!!! Next you'll tell me they'll delete my character after beta....

I might beleive this and give Square the benefit of the doubt. It would really be sad if they are just finding critical bugs now after all the time they have been running closed Betas. So i guess it is possible that some new update or newly added content has caused the problems.I mean we never once heard of any critical bugs in the several months of closed Beta,so why all of a sudden on day 1?
One thing that really bothered me is this continuing downward spiral of Square being CHEAP.I noticed they are using a Torrent format for the beta downloading using our bandwidth.I ran my machine all night at times d/l at zero yet uploading tons of my bandwidth. No doubt i can probably search my registry or files and find some unknown torrent downloader program as i usually find these after trying F2P games.
This is the thing,i have seen a downward spiral in Square Enix over the last several years,at one time i had them as the very best by a longshot, not anymore, now torrent and a failed first day open beta, limiting peoples play time, added to the long list of other knucklehead things they have done and it seems they are heading in the wrong direction.

Oh well, maybe the game will be all the better for the delay
if any of us will be able to finish DLing it considering at the rates im getting it is going to take a week....
Hmm, when I load up the launcher, it just hangs on "Downloading version update files. Please wait (1/2)" and all the speeds/connections etc are 0...
12 hours of downloading....
SOOOO CLOSE!

Funny. Only took me a couple hours using their downloader. I got cable but it isnt the fastest in the world.
I just am not getting any connections, I have 30mb FiOS and its downloading at under 20kbps. Problem is I'm getting 0-3 connections at a time...
Try an alternative torrent client like utorrent, if you're having problems with patcher download.

There is always a delay, my guess is to build up more hype. But that's a guess.
