I loved Darkfall, i thought it was a great game. Loved the PvP aspect of it, even though it had its crappy parts, it worked for me..
Im an old school UO player looking to get into MO.... i dont need to hear any reviews or opinions of wether the game is good or bad.. I would just like to know a couple things about the population:
Basically in DF, you didnt see many people at all.. even in the cities.. i felt like i was playing a single player game most of the time, unless i was with my guild..
In Mortal Online, how many people would you see on average in the cities/villages? And running around..
In other words, does it feel empty?
Oh and one more quick question... im downloading the game right now, where should i start if i wanted to be around nice people who liked to help one another and are looking for a friendly addition to their village?
Thanks ahead of time!!!

A former Gamemaster has stated that there were around 300 players at primetime. Others have estimated around 400.
As far as community.. there is a current discussion on the official forums discussing that. People are suggesting some towns might be better for a new player: http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/52779-rude-community-so-far.html

No a former gamemaster did not say any of those numbers, those were guestimates from players.
If you want a good community Fabernum, Bak-ti or Moh-ki (Can't start at moh-ki) are the best places. They're inhabited by friendlier guilds. Other places tend to be full of thieves, griefers and pks who are not controlled by any anti-pk faction.
Wow... 300-400 People primetime? thats it?? Thats terrible!! I guess i will have to pass on the game ;/
I was at LEAST hoping for 1,000 people primetime.. I mean even as a guesstimate... lol
keep in mind that MO's map is much smaller then DF so 300/400 people does make it feel more populated. i'v played DF and i also felt like i was playing single player game for most of the time. i have to say that MO feels more populated then DF especially if you hang arround the larger cities.
unfortunately with the whole 'keeps/houses inside a palisade" a lot fo the guilded playerbase are basicly making their own "cities" out in the wilderness (close to resources) which makes the regular cities gost towns. this makes it so an un-guilded player doesn't get to see the majority of players which are playing arround their own keeps/houses inside the huge palisades and away from everyone's eyes. a place that you, the non-guilded player, have no access to.
personaly i would have only allowed keeps to be built close to, or arround, the already existing cities and then have the guild owning that keep collect taxes from all houses and vendors from that city. this would have kept the cities busy instead of having all the guilded players (large majority of players) out in the wilderness behind high palisades.
ahhh ok, makes sense.. i wouldnt mind actually giving this game a try, if the patcher would ever decide to work ;/
The game's pretty broken right now, so I would suggest not going into it with especially high hopes. By broken, I mean the mob navigation is completely bugged, to the point that they can't even move when you hit them sometimes or they end up inside you. This is getting fixed VERY soon though. It's been stuck like this since release because SV was waiting on a patch from Epic Games to fix their Nav Mesh system. They got that patch on Monday and will be implementing it ASAP. If you log on and get annoyed by that kind of bug, just know it won't exist for long. This patch also allows for a new, much better GUI which should be in soon as well, along with potentiall speed tree 5, better performance on the client and server sides and a number of other things. It's more or less the "Mircal Patch" that people have been talking about since beta, or its supposed to be anyway.
If you haven't bought the game yet, I would recommend holding off for maybe 2-3 weeks until these things are fixed. You should have a much better starting experience one they are.
It absolutely amazes me that people still believe that Epic Games is really going to deliver anything here, when other MMOs use Unreal3 in their games (Aion, Global Agenda, etc) and don't have issues with AI pathing at all. Sure, they are different architectures, but AI would be the same whether it's instanced or it's a full-form world.
The network solution from what I hear from an inside source at SV, is atrocious, and the line came up "What do you expect when it's made in China?", but seriously, the stuff that works for others should be do-able for SV as well.
Was on last night, it was dead in Meduli and any camping spots for PVE, as we were hunting PK's.
You could tell a popular game went into open beta. I feel bad when all the other games release next year. Unless they do something quick I feel the numbers will dwindle.
And hopefully the "EPIC" patch will help but who knows when it will be implemented and what will be implemented with it. As everyone knows when a new patch gets released old bugs reappear and news ones show their ugly faces.
I love this game I really do but I love it for the vision it's supposed to be. Unfortunately, that can only keep me entertained for so long.
The game is a blast, don't get me wrong. But it's more like like most FPS's jump in play for a bit then leave, not like, I played that game for 5 years, not yet anyway.
Running from Fabernum to Meduli usually see 1 or 2 people usually a tamer or extractor/woodcutter. Once in town depending on the time of day since there is a EU population, North America/South American, and Aussies it's random. Sometimes 20ish people sometimes 3.
When I played, there were quite a lot people in and arround Meduli. Not many people in Fabernum though. I even met players in most remote areas. So I think players are scattered now, especially with guild keeps, there is no much need to go to cities. Some people are are crying for banks and utilioty vendors in keeps, if SV decides to implement these, cities will mostly be populated by solo players.
Actually Epic games did "deliver". They updated there software so now Starvault changed around much of it's update priorities to reflect the new Epic update.
The 300-400 numbers are just poor guesses. There was never any "REAL" gm's that leaked information, just a butthurt guild leader with the miraculous GM power to "unstick" players. ROFL.. He had no "real" gm power.
The real number feels like it's several times higher that that however the devs do not release exact numbers. While the continent Mortal Online is played on is fairly small this does mean you run into players more often. You never really feel like your alone unless you want to be. The devs say they are going to release 5 more continents to the game making the game world friggen huge, but that won't come for a long while. (Maybe 6 months + is my guess)
Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!
Over 20 people in Moh-ki at the moment. (Small non-starter town)
2 thumbs up if you can get a screenshot of that while saying "THIS IS FOR SLAPSHOT" in the chat window!

I was in a battle involving around 70-80 people earlier. Somehow I doubt that almost 1/3 of the server was all at this one place.
There was 300 people at prime time back in July so more probably around 200 right now. Expect that number to fall below 100 rather soon unless the Epic Patch comes as the savior.
[Mod Edit]
I don't suppose that anyone was able to FRAPS this epic encounter were they?

Yes they were.
So when I was fighting last night in a 70 person battle, that was nearly half the server in one spot according to you. Mmmmkay.
No there's more than 300. I just picked it up this week but I've already seen more people than that. The population is probably spread out, yes, but you're never far from people. I won't be playing much longer, but that's a different story.
Check the financial report for the first half of this year. They're doing pretty well for now Meaning enough people are playing/have subscriptions to the game to keep servers running whilst they improve the game.
You do know that the report for the first half of the year did not have any subscription money included... since the game didn't start subscriptions until July..

You would be wrong. It wasn't an event. And most of the server didn't know it even happened until it was over and the battle report was posted on the forums. Sorry but you have no basis for your claims of MO population.
Ummm I don't know about Shadowbane and DnL, but a "siege" in MO works nothing like a siege in Darkfall. No-one knows about the siege until the attackers show up, as opposed to the 24 hour warning and specified window that darkfall has. For most people the first they heard of this siege was when it got posted to the forums. MO is just not so conducive to "vultures" which I think is a good thing.
Bringing this back around to the topic of the thread, I don't think the number of people involved in a siege is a good way to measure the population of the game.
I think the max that has been on in a month at one time is about 200 or so
