FFXIV supposed to take 15gb of space

Professor78Professor78 Member UncommonPosts: 611

FFXIV Supposed to take up 15gb. So why does the open beta only take up 9gb.

Is the missing 6gb for cache files, or stuff we have not seen in OB.

Probably cutscene videos and maybe voice acting... I dunno if it'll have any more story stuff and they've left it out not to spoil it for beta players. Maybe good chunks of the game just aren't in yet... which would be worrying if no one is testing them. In EQ2 beta developers would ask for people who want high level characters to test that stuff out.

You're missing several areas, the mog house zones in each city; by the way they are existent. Each city has a teleport zone that doesn't let you teleport into it; it's blocked off during OB. These would be your mog home zones (lily hills, 3rd floor of Ul'dah castle). You are also missing apparently some aesthetic options for characters, chocobo riding, and possibly several class options as well. Not to mention recipes and armor that are missing in OB.

Hehe you talking about all the things they are saving for surprise effect excites me. Alhough they might test it soon? in the OB? a little before release? So they can add any corrections to the patch.

going off site info thrs 9 gig install 6 gig download, perhaps most of it will b on the disk but thats what it says, if its a patch i hope theres a better way off getting it, but yes there is a huge chuck of the game missing in OB, airships, mounts boats, areas, a large amount of character creation stuff, and th above mentioned gear recipies ect.

I think if devs actually just gave a undetailed list of everything not included it would actually be an incentive for others to buy the game, the mystery is killing a lot of us, but in a way its like I want to buy the game just to see how much was actually missing. Damn SE and their ploys...

Read the beat manual it hints alot at how much is not available in Beta. I quote "A fraction of the content"

I did read that dollface :), I signed up last night and got a key soooo easily i was shocked. guess its easy now. but yah i saw fraction and new they were holding back, its exciting, which is what they mean by it haha. that and to make us buy it to find out. but if it doesnt deliver we just stop playing. which makes me uderstand some of the QQing going on, i guess some people are more affected by the US economic downturn then others and cant afford to try it out.

I would like to preface this by saying i'm a Final Fantasy Fan and I'm enjoying Beta and am going tomorrow to preorder the CE but would also like to point out this quote says absolutely nothing about how much content is in beta. Guess what 1/4(25%) of the content is a fraction of the content, 1/2(50%) of the content is a fraction of the content 9/10(90%) of the content is a fraction of the content.....you get the picture.

I  always assumed when people say a fraction though, they mean on the smaller side f the scale. But I defnitely smell what you're steping in there.

15 gig still seems kinda small to me, AoC is 35 and even older games like EQ2 is larger.

It is not that strange that the OB is somewhat smaller than the full game, no need to have all cut scenes, voice acting and similar stuff for the open beta users to download, and it wouldn't surprise me if they cut out some of the endgame too. 6GB for each beta tester tends to get a lot of bandwidth for very little use.

Still, either is the game rather small or very well optimized in size. Let's hope it is the last thing. :)

You don't have to worry about content with FFXIV.. there will be more content then you can shake a stick at that will remain viable for the entire life of the game.  Unlike other MMO dev's SE doesn't like to make old gear obsolete.  They make "Side Grades" not "Up Grades"  switching gear with macro's and stuff will be popular just like in FFXI.. It will be awesome!

FFXI has more end game content that is still viable then any other game out there.  TONS.. so many events to do you couldn't possibly do them all.  I look forward to FFXIV providing the same amount of fun for the next 10 years of my life :)

Wasn't side grades the most amazing thing! Instead of everyone doing the newest content to get the new leet gear, there was multiple different endgame scenarios to acquire your side gear options. You could choose from a plethora of options and they did them all in different ways too like all the options were not an instanced run. There were roaming NMs, instanced dungeon runs,  i dunno lots of stuff. Awesome, they better not leave that kinda depth outta ff14.

Are the cutscenes actually your regular cutscenes, as they seem to be graphically renderred. Hard to explain what i mean - like not 1 huge video file. As they change to what your charactor/slection looks like. So would they actually need to take up so much space.

I think he wanted to know if anyone knew if they were in-game generated graphics or special cutscene graphics that your char is somehow worked into... Am I right? I dunno, maybe im wrong

yes, even in the starting cut scenes your character is in them, I think I'm misunderstanding what is being asked if that is not what is wanted...

If anyone is interested, some guys at FFXIVCore did some datamining and found a lot of stuff in the beta that hasn't even been activated yet: http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/14381-all-guildleve-quests-ships-mordhona-music-gear-icons/
