If your upset that the negative feedback is redundant and repetitive than imagine how they feel about the same glorification threads being done about things like graphics.

These forums work both ways and therefor we can't just expect to talk about all the goodie goodie rainbow bright things we like about the game cause thats not fair to future customers to only hear one side of the beta experience.

     This ^^^^

Well then why do we have stickies? The answer; so that we dont have a million redundant and similar posts about the same things.

So how about we make a sticky guys! "Things that are wrong or could be better in FF14 beta". Do it up homies!

I tried FFXI and really didnt like anything about it from the interface to the graphics. Everything just felt "foreign".

I'm trying FFXIV now and the interface still feels foreign.

I'd guess the hate is coming from people that actually wanted to like the game but can't because of something (interface, graphics requirements, etc) They might state such opinions and get jumped on by those who feel their position isn't an issue. This causes a downward spiral of inflammatory remarks and hate. Just a guess.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Actually both sides are doing bad.

People that didn't enjoy the game keep posting thread after thread suggesting others to not try the game and people that enjoyed it have the right to say something here.

People that didn't enjoy the game (Not all) try to over exaggerate over things or spreading out lies someone has to say the truth and they are often called fanboys for saying the truth.

Some people that enjoy the game like our friend here belarion he's over protective and if he can't endure sometimes (well many) threads that spout either lies, bad information, over exagerating or just bait flames he shouldn't post or just report them for trolling and end it there.

Like I said earlier this site let's people express a bit too much freely and some moderation should be improved but who knows I'm just a fanboy no?

The great majority of both the pro and con on any game has nothing to do with the game at the end.

It is just bored people playing forums.

I would..but honestly, I don't play FF..havent since I spent more time in the cut scene's in the single players then actually playing the game (somewhere around 8-9). I am however thinking of giving this one a shot. hell the only reason I started posting today is because I seen someone posting in a shitload of FF threads repeatedly. So again sorry but I'm not the one to post for or against this game.

I've played about 6 hours of beta thus far, 5 hours of it against my better judgement.

I can't get in to it - mostly because it just doesn't appeal to me - I want to like it sooooooo badly but can't. I have tried for 6 hours and all it does is give me a headache.

Crafting is great though, but there are free browser games that are the equivalent to the enjoyment I get from crafting.

So yeah, I tried it - and I want to love it... so desperately... but it just isn't immersive to me, I feel like I am just wandering around aimlessly. It isn't because there is no "indicators", it's because the activities you are urged to participate in are redundant.

    Cheers.

I played FF11 a little, and I have tried this one. I certainly don't hate it. I think its a beautiful game, and greatly original when compared to the rest of the MMO's out there.

But, I probably won't playing it, for the same reason I stopped playing 11. I really struggle with a controller, and just can't get my head around it. Have the same problem with console games. It's not the fault of the game by any means, and I wish I could learn to use the damn thing so I could enjoy it fully. It's very fustrating, and at times, annoying, but thats my problem, not theirs.

But I won't scream and shout and ask them to change their design plans and their game just for me.  If people want to play it that bad, then they should want to play "that game SE built" not the game "they wish SE built". The UI, the Controls, the Graphics, the Macros, the XP Bonus, the Quests - are all part and parcel of FF14, and what make it so unique in an otherwise very samey genre.

You need to play the OB and not focus on the content for now, as we know that most of its held back and all to come with the release.

I can understand how the controls put people off, as for me a pad on my PC is like sacrilige!

I like the though off being able to pick up any weapon and lean to use it, thats what im waiting to see how well it goes, and they didnt even give a sneak peak in OB the buggers.

Not a prob. Im glad you are interested though. Give'er a good go. I tell my other friend in RL who is far more interested in Tera to giver FF14 the 6 months between its release and Teras- he told me he'd try the free 30 days. I was like "you dont have any other mmo to play" but he thinks when he knows he doesnt like a game he knows  and he can decide in 30 days.

He decided he didnt like ff11 in a matter of hours to my dismay.

Sadly gamers in general have devolved over the years and as time passes its only going to get worse. People are expecting more and more from the game developers and they also (for some strange reason) expect every game to maintain some similar pattern to other games in its genre.

You see this with Final Fantasy XIV and you will see it with Guild Wars 2 and even SWTOR. For some reason people expect games to be made exactly the way they want the game to be. I hear all the time that people wanted FF XIV to be FF XI with gameplay like WoW. The thing is I give Square Enix kudos for sticking with there guns and creating a game that stays true to what Final Fantasy is and has been over the years. Final Fantasy games have maintained a similar combat and menu based system since the early days and it's one of the staples that sets the game apart from other games.

You are going to see people that will hate the game no matter what is done to the game. This is going to happen with every MMO game from here on out. Even SWTOR is going to get more then its share of hate and doom and gloom threads (I can grantee that.) But when it comes down to it people (gamers) just like different things and most a fair number of gamers have a very hard time of letting things go when its not made to fit there style / what they like. And sadly a good portion of human socitiy as a whole seems to get a kick out of running others fun and thats really just what all the hate is about. People feel that if they don't like / enjoy the game then why should anyone else be able to enjoy it.

Sadly I am sure people are going to call me a FF XIV fanboy and whatever. But the above is from years of looking at the MMO and Gamer community. It's changed by leaps and bounds over the last 20 years and things are only really getting worse.

I don't find FF XIV a bad game by any stretch. I do question some of there choices but I also admit to myself that the game was designed to be a Final Fantasy game from the ground up. It wasn't designed to be the next World of Warcraft.

This was my first approach at FF, and I won't buy it.

Why the hate? Because it's a console game sold as a PC one.

Who is it coming from? From the people that are dissapointed of yet another shoddy MMORPG.

I liked FF XI and thought that FFXIV would be a modern and more polished game, with all the kinks of XI ironed out and full of well honed design choices. The team had many years to learn and hone their skills in crafting a genuinely great MMO-Experience.

Why you still here, we all know you hate it. End of story right?

And we know you love it and swallow no matter what SE throws out there so how are you any different other than the other end of spectrum?

One of them is hanging out in a forum for a game they like. One of them is hanging out in a forum for a game they hate. I gotta say, one makes more sense than the other to me. I'll let you guess which.

It does not appear to be hating on the part of the op. He is stating what many others have.  He wants to like the game as do others but for whatever reason its a  turn off.  This dude shows up in every thread and goes on about everyone else is wrong and SE is the greatest thing ever, Personally I wish both extremes would take a leap off a tall building.

They say they dont intend to play so I see them off with a cheerful "goodbye" nothing wrong with that. The ff14 forum isa place for people to talk about ff14, and if he isnt going to be playing it what more is there to talk about? His reasoning for not playing it? Yah , we've heard that. So he can leave now.

Can you see the irony in this my friend?

/sigh thank you for writing that out it had some great points.

Mainly that SE had a vision and that much of the game is integral to that vision. And potential gamers are questioning SE's vision and requesting that SE make changes. Now the game is made for players so SE will hear out these complaints; but not before the vision has been realized in a completed game and experienced for what it is. At that point, if there are things to iron out, then they will work on it over time.

They have stuck to their guns and they will gain/lose fans for having done so.

This is a very valid point.  All I can say is when the game(s) I want to play come out I really won't be here or in any forum posting my likes/dislikes I'll be in the game playing them, until one thing happens... it no longer holds my attention.  I mean really who cares about a random post by some unknown member.  Unless It's some form of work around(fix) to an issue, why would anyone genuinely interested in a game care?

  • BelarionBelarion Member Posts: 570

I agree with alot of what you said Elidien. Much of the core gameplay and such in a beta wont change. Much of the game wont change. But hopefully certain things see tweeks, i think SE can find a really good medium with potential players if they tweek some things. Like they seem to have started work on with the hardware mouse.

There is soooo many issues i have with this game,i cannot remember half of them by time i log out.

To lump it into one big furry ball, would be to say Square has not learned one single thing about making their game user friendly. Before you go off defending their reasoning, just remeber that their object is to make money and garner as many subscriptions as they can,and they are not going about it the right way.

The cities, example Limsa Lominsa is way to spread out ,it is huge, they have half the city blocked off for Beta and it still takes forever to navigate it.Spending 30 minutes just to walk around is not most players idea of casual or even necessary.

In this modern era, mouse overs SHOULD be common place,it is is not under debate or something a developer needs to think about,it should be there end of story. It adds to the ease of learning the UI,it just all in all makes for a more polished product.

Also the obvious lack of effort from voice overs.Sure they spent some time on the first two cutscenes for each city, but after that there is no more voice overs. That imo is about a 1% effort, they could/SHOULD have put a lot more effort into that part of the game.

I don't like the idea of no auction house nor do i like the idea of the retainer,i don't think it is a personal thing either ,i feel it is bad for the entire player base.

The list if you read many players psots goes on and on and is actually really big when you figure how many areas this game has botched up.Menus?why so many menus, you have to enter a menu for every single thing in the game and unlike FFXI where you could just walk away you have to battle the mouse lag and click cancel or leave.

Back to the mouse overs,it would help locating things on the map, they could be made to good use describing things, really it takes work, but i think msot people expect it,otherwise you get the feeling the devleloper is rushing the game or is just too lazy, either which both cases are not acceptable.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Wizardry, can you create a thread expressly for FF14 reccomendations? You can basically copy and paste and change the wording a little. That way we can have it sticked for people who would like to express issues they have with the game and their ideas for how to improve it, because every 2nd or third thread is about it. So i think that'd be helpful.

We'll ask to have it sticked afterwards
