Why would they have that, when it is clearly not true? Did FFXI have that on it's box? Because FFXI and FFXIV have nearly the same control schemes. People who played FFXI will play FFXIV the same way, with keyboard only. In the beta they don't have directional arrows set up to move camera, but they've already stated on the beta site that they are changing that for release.
Not to insult FF XI players, as I certainly don't indent to, but it has antiquated contols. Its the same control mechanics used back in the days of Spectrums. People who aren't a fan of FF XI, are just going to think "what the hell?".
The said they were going to change the mouse/keyboard controls, which they did for closed beta 3. Not moving forward. Pre-beta 3 it was unbelievable bad, and doesn't resemble at all what's in place now. Moving the mouse would automatically rotate the camera, even if not moving. Most of the time was spent fighting the camera. They have also said they aren't going to fix the software mouse by launch or soon after, as they don't see it as a priority. The controls are what will be in at launch. At best they'll tweak sesativity.
Now I need to know, what is the next MMORPG in development to start following and get excited about?
That right there is the issue. You (and many people that use these forums) get themselves all excited when a game is announced. People start imagining how the game will play, how revolutinary the combat will be, how full of depth the crafting will be etc etc etc. Then the information comes out and they initially read the text how they want. People who aren't all hyped up can read what the notes actually mean but those who are all excited twist them to mean something amazing.
Then the inevitable. Those who are all jazzed up get to play the game for the first time. They are SHOCKED that this isn't the game they imagined and believed in. They do not realize the developers never promised them the game they built up in their minds but it doesn't matter, they are now angry and bitter. So what should they do now?
Repeat the process on the next announced game of course! Why learn from that experience and start being realistic about the expectations of new MMOs and wait until all the information is out before even thinking about trying it. No, it is far better to get overly excited by prospects that have never even been hinted at then to be realistic and not suffer the giant let down that no game will ever match your imagination.
Do not get hyped about games before anyone has played it. Do not think the next MMO will be "innovative". Do not preorder the game, EVER. Wait for the free trial to start instead of jumping on and buying a boxed copy right away. That way you know exactly what you are getting into, they have had time to fix all the major launch bugs, and you save yourself a lot of money and headaches. Do not be the guy who keeps latching onto games before they have even been played.
Why would they have that, when it is clearly not true? Did FFXI have that on it's box? Because FFXI and FFXIV have nearly the same control schemes. Keyboard-only takes a bit to get used to for players who aren't used to it, but it's not a big challenge. The UI takes a lot more time to get accustomed with than it does for keyboard-only gaming.

It doesn't take a bit getting used to at all, its just antiquated and adds to the list of why people will give up. Its not like its a challenge to implement decent controls, although its seems that way for SE.
oh noes the game isnt going to be the most popular game in the world and i wont be part of the biggest gaming crowd, time to go follow another game fantaicly until I realize it wont live up to hype either!!!
no game keeps its hype, theres a huge crowd of people called game hoppers that cause these up and downs, and you sir, are one of them. And you will never find a game.
Don't pretend to know me, udontthink
I just happen to be a dedicated MMO player and have several MMOs that I played continously for years. In nearly all of those cases those games were extremely fun and engaging from day one. Not this one, though. Very disappointing to say the least.
Well a shame but I have also played many many MMOs PvE , PVP and a mix of the two . And I can honestly say that this MMO is absolutely excelent and will do well. Shame you are going to miss out.
And don't get carried away nobody cares who you are and vice versa.

Bah, there are other MMOs/games using keyboard-only. Do you say that a console game using the controller is antiquated because it uses the normal controller instead of the newly-up-to-date controller? Does it really matter?
It's a design choice, simple as that. Has nothing to do with SE not wanted to add "decent controls" of mouse+keyboard.
I predicted this, this was the same reaction FFXI received, not surprising FFXIV is getting the same criticisms. People that don't understand or follow SE don't really understand how they operate. They work very differently than most companies I've seen, I have no doubt this product will be the product we expect at launch, like FFXI they are not releasing the full game till release... They are indeed hiding 6GB of the 15GB file from us during OB. SE is more concerned about stress testing the servers to maximize the stability than they are about marketing their product in OB, which is fine, I rather have a game where the company worked until release day to maximize performance than a company that just spat everything out during the end of CB and said, "We're done." FFXI from the beginning was always a work in progress, constantly getting updates and expansions, and in the end it probably has the most copious amount of content of any MMO i've played so far, dare I say more than WoW? Of course it is a couple years older than WoW too... The reaction which FFXIV is of no surprise because the game is so different in the way it is run and the way it plays that people are not sure what to think. I have full faith that it would live up to the standard FFXI put for and exceed it, it's just going to take time to grow. From what I saw with FFXI it will probably get a new content patch every month or so, and slowly grow until it is what we would call a complete game. I say by the PS3 release it should be what people were expecting at computer release, so for those who are disheartened now, you may want to wait till March and give it a second shot.
i dont think you will. people are quitting just because they dont think they should have to use a gamepad for a PC game...... well, racing games on the PC are made to be used with racing wheels, and if you dont use them you get less of an experience..... same with flight sims, no joystick? well you get crappy controls then....
for some reason people dont consider this with FF14. they think "ITS AN MMO IT SHOULD WORK WITH KB/MOUSE RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE."
guess what people, use a gamepad. all of your problems will be solved....
You use racing wheels in racing games because:
- It's more immersive since cars use use steering wheels.
- Analog controls allow for better precision/better gameplay.
It's the same for joysticks and flight sims...
For what reason does FFXIV use a gamepad over a keyboard? Slower combat? Tedious menu system replacing hotkeys?
it would be a closer analogy to imagine Gran Turismo 5 not supporting steering wheels.
If it's an FPS -> KB/mouse PERIOD.
If it's a fighting game -> Arcade Stick PERIOD.
If it's a platformer -> GAMEPAD.
I could go on. The only reason there's terrible mouse/kb support in FFXIV is that Squeenix just can't be arsed making the game more than a BETA for the PS3 release. And If you want to be a tool and spin a serious case of consolitis as a positive feature because you're a "hardcore gamer" or an "enlightened genius", go nuts.
The controls still suck with a gamepad. Most it's because the menus are slow, things like changing gear and changing abilities are clunky (which has been said a million times, I know)... the interface for crafting is especially slow and aggravating.
Yes, I'm using macros to change classes. I have left trigger going to my ctrl-macro list, and one set up for each one of my jobs that changes me weapons/abilities. This is absolutely necessary is you want to play this game at all because the developers have made it super aggravating and time-consuming to change manually with their shitty UI.
So lets not say that using a gamepad suddenly magically fixes the game's UI. It still sucks. Targeting STILL sucks. If you lose target on your enemy during combat (which you will, thanks to the way the moles hide underground, etc...), prepare to use the d-pad to scroll through every single mob AND player in your vicinity while still being attacked.
Inventory management. MY GOD. Have you tried scrolling through your inventory to sell loot? It's HORRIBLE. Slower than molasses in January. Like watching paint dry. Just bad. You can't even re-arrange your stuff in the inventory screen (at least if you can, someone let me know how, please)... so your gear is mixed in with all your loot, etc. You can only carry 80 items. With all the weapons and tools you need to play this game, be prepared to fill up often, which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't so unbearable to sell your loot to a vendor. Loot you don't even want will automatically start filling you up when you kill stuff. If theres a way to tell the loot-list not to pick something up, I don't know what it is. Another problem with the non-existent tutorial, I guess.
Sure, that's why there are many other complaints people are listing, as to why they won't be playing. That is just the most obvious one.
The main reason, is because it lacks any depth and content. Other than the story arc, you can grind and even that is restricted.
And this is a poor reason because if they knew SE they will know that putting a lots of content in a game is the strong point. The beta is restricted, this is the way SE work. The mass will always find a reason to bash game who dont follow WOW mechanism and his followers. Yeah again the wow agurment but this is the truth. Most people saw some screenshot and video of FFXIV and was hoping to see a wow game but wuth better graphics. Most of them didnt even take the time to read the features of this game. Now the try the beta with a bullheaded way and realise the is not what they wanted so tthey use every reason they can find to bash the game.

All of which are cheap, low budget, F2P MMOs or some 2nd generation MMO that's managed to hang on.
And yes, if someting uses an outdated control system, it is antiquated in that area. You'd not play PS3 games (unless reto style) with a joystick. It also does matter, as through time people adjust to increased levels of comfort features. Take them away and mostly will just play something else.
Everyone notice how FF XIV's score here has dramatically dropped since OB? It is disappointing that this game didn't turn out to be what many of us hoped it would be.
Now I need to know, what is the next MMORPG in development to start following and get excited about?
Amazed it ever had any hype here at all. All you ever see on the front page is WoW, LOTR, Rifts of Telara, SWTOR, and GW2. It's not one of the in style games round these parts, nfi why ask the mods.
Why would they have that, when it is clearly not true? Did FFXI have that on it's box? Because FFXI and FFXIV have nearly the same control schemes. The hype numbers mean very little except in the grand scheme of things. Actually, the comments mean more than anything. A good example is SPore and its rating on Amazon.com. There are thousands of reviews but the game only has like a 1 star rating. So naturally one would think the game sucks right? Well, actually 99% of the reviews are about the DRM attached to the game and not the game itself so it is impossible to get a good view of the game going by that along. Most people would played the game actually liked it.
The same is true here. A lot of people are lowering the hype number because of the control scheme or the consol-type design or for whatever reason they do not like the game or the game did not live up to their expectations.
Regardless, it tells us very little about the game itself and even less cause for concern. Once the game launches and one goes to a site like Metacritic, you can get a good feel for the game. And that is why I am waiting 30 days or more before I consider purchasing the game.
They don't like the game, simply because is sub-standard. Nothing more. Most of the reviews are also negative. People were actually excited about this game, hence the rush for open beta. They just feel let down by SE and rightfully so.
Oh noes, all the WoW scrubs won't play this because they actually have to think. All of the quests aren't available in beta, and no, there won't be little question marks above their heads scrubs. So you will actually.**gasp**have to run around and talk to them to find out who has quests. No one button click crafting or gathering either.
If you want to play a game where you can ditch the WoW scrubs, because it is too hard for them. This is it.
Exactly where do you need to think? Its basically shall I attack that mob, or not?
Ironically you actually have to think more when playing WoW than FF XIV, which pre (WoW) end game is staggering. The only element one may have to think about other than mob killing, is what the hell is there to do?

Are you a scrub? I clearly said WoW "scrubs". If you come into this game expecting to have your hand held and everything be auto attack/crafting, you aren't going to have fun.
If you aren't a scrub, don't take offense to it, but I take back the WoW comment. Not all people that play WoW are scrubs, but the scrubs that do, are some serious begging for gold type scrubs. lol

Why hide content when it needs to be tested, doesnt make sence.
If its abouth spoilers, then it shouldnt be a issue, beta testers are to test content and see the spoilers, i dont believe there hiding anything, this will be the game on release.

it would be a closer analogy to imagine Gran Turismo 5 not supporting steering wheels.
If it's an FPS -> KB/mouse PERIOD.
If it's a fighting game -> Arcade Stick PERIOD.
If it's a platformer -> GAMEPAD.
I've been playing with a gamepad.
The game is unplayable with keyboard/mouse.
Amazed it ever had any hype here at all. All you ever see on the front page is WoW, LOTR, Rifts of Telara, SWTOR, and GW2. It's not one of the in style games round these parts, nfi why ask the mods.

They don't like the game, simply because is sub-standard. Nothing more. Most of the reviews are also negative. People were actually excited about this game, hence the rush for open beta. They just feel let down by SE and rightfully so.
Exactly where do you need to think? Its basically shall I attack that mob, or not?
Ironically you actually have to think more when playing WoW than FF XIV, which pre (WoW) end game is staggering. The only element one may have to think about other than mob killing, is what the hell is there to do?
Day one for ffxiv isn't for another 15 days...
4chan member is poorly disguised.
And If you want to play a game where you cna play with immature, intolerant, arrogant and ignorant weeaboos you now know where to got too!!!!
Hey making baseless, insulting generalizations is fun!!!
They aren't releasing all the content in beta. Obviously you aren't thinkng too hard, because you haven't figured that out yet.
Name 1 MMO on MMORPG.com that has kept it's hype meter high in the sky before AND after release.
Are you a scrub? I clearly said WoW "scrubs". If you come into this game expecting to have your hand held and everything be auto attack/crafting, you aren't going to have fun.
If you aren't a scrub, don't take offense to it, but I take back the WoW comment. Not all people that play WoW are scrubs, but the scrubs that do, are some serious begging for gold type scrubs. lol
this isnt news. We have all known WoW's community has been like this for the longest time.

In your previous post, it's as if you were saying that all WoW players = scrubs. Beside, WoW doesn't really need to be mentionned in this thread. FFXIV =/= WoW.
Why hide content when it needs to be tested, doesnt make sence.
If its abouth spoilers, then it shouldnt be a issue, beta testers are to test content and see the spoilers, i dont believe there hiding anything, this will be the game on release.
