They increased price for 30% without noticement probably just because they find out those items are best seller for 3 days after head start.
We hope it is some kind of mistake, but as the most replied thread of the official forum not proper answer has been given.
So, no matter they intend to be evil or just too sloppy better to wait and see.

Wtf they are getting greedy so soon......
They need to make money somehow dude.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
Maybe you missed this part in the OP:
"[edit] *SOLVED* Prices were on sale before in "Today's Deals" and no longer are. It was my mistake in not understanding the sale mechanic. You only know what items are on sale by clicking on the "Today's Deals" button. Going straight to the item will not notify you the item is on sale. I personally welcome a sale mechanic and will just have to wait until the items I want go back on sale. Sorry for my confusion. *SOLVED* [end edit]"
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
First of all, they went f2p to increase their game revenue. Apparently the industry believes that brings them more money than a group of dedicated gamers paying a sub every month.
Second of all; they are increasing prices already. I believe you can be TOO greedy and make your playerbase realize you don't care about game content or quality. Obvious greed like that will make them leave. I know I wouldn't stay in a game where I knew all they wanted was my hard earned cash.
I'm telling you this: You get an interesting game, loaded with features, skip eye candy, good game mechanics, frequent updates on content, and you will gain a DEDICATED bunch of players.
I know I used to come home from work and sit on WoW for at least 4 hours a day. That was my entertainment.
I used to play SWG at least 4 hours a day. They still have a VERY DEDICATED playerbase in spite of the NGE.
Myself; as soon as I hear cash shop or microtransactions and I don't even look past that. Just the way I am. I want a game I can invest my time in. To know that if I want epic things, I need to invest time; not pay money. I'm sure you all wont' agree and that's fine. That's what makes us different.
To sum it all up: Don't rape the playerbase for hard earned cash. Unless you give them immersion, and content; your cash shop playerbase will take off for the next trend game.
No, I did not miss that, thanks.
The OP maybe tricked by someone for his memory, me and many other found it is NOT on sale as the reply thread discussed. I do not want to open a discussion here again but the bottem line is even if it is has someone claimed, they did a sloppy job. However, me and many others don't think it is so simple.

Actually Turbine goes F2P because it actually increases their subscriptions. You CANT play the game without spending money. You are so gimped that nobody would want you in their group if you don't have a sub.
Only on a MMO forum would you ever see something like this LOL. A store opens with grand opening sale prices, after a couple of days prices go back to normal and people complain
I rate this thread

uh yes you can play. Go F2P do the starter area quests. grind mobs and do the Epic quest lines for money and gear , take money for mob ginding and buy crafted gear. Is it painfull and slow? yeah sure, can it be done also yes. Or you can pay the subscription for 15USD a month.
Double facepalm here also ....A company gives you a chance to really see everything in thier game up to the level 50 content for free and people bitch

Turbine always has ongoing, revolving sales on items, quest packs, etc. If you wait a month or two, the item you want will be on sale usually 20% at least, sometimes up to 50%. Watch especially at the end of the quarter.
It is so strange, why some players chose to side with actions against their best interest without careful reading and independent thinking.
I am talking about Jack and Sila.
Want money is something, since those items were best seller prove people willing to give them money.
Greedy is another thing, that drives player away. They will see after the price increasing more people will hold their money
And sloppy, if that is the case, is also bad enough. Many games die just because of sloppy.
As a support of turbine for so long, I want them do it right.
And Jack, if you are not under 10. watch you tongue.
im just about ready to buy the expansions and sub to this game (if i had the money). i love it. im not sure what it is but it suits me. and if for some reason i wanna cancel my sub i can but i still get to play...
for anyone who wants to save some money. fileplanet has 30 days for a vip pass plus 1000 turbine point for $4.95. its what i did.

LOL. Whats strange is, some people thought this game was really going to be free to play.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
If you set your mind to be rude and troll, I do not need to convince you. I made my point and many player agree with me.
This is very simple, and Snoopy the Turbine sychophant just doesn't understand.
1) The 'sale' items were never marked as sale items. Ever. Actually READ the thread past the GM-modded OP. Most people thought that the listed prices were the normal prices. Everyone in my Kin did, and every person I've talked to did. They were not marked as sale items in the store, and there was NO announcement that it was any kind of 'grand opening sale'.
2) Many people did NOT get their Turbine points in the first few days. Due to glitches, faulty billing, slow generation of rewards, etc... and were not able to take advantage of this 'sale' that nobody knew about at no fault of their own while other people were. Punishing paying customers for the glitches in YOUR system is NOT a good way to do business.
3) Many people bought 50 dollars of TP on sale and decided to sit on it and wait for these items to go on sale, not knowing they already were on sale since there was no indication or announcement that they were. Overnight these people found that their points were suddenly worth 30% less with no announcements or way that they could have known. In the business world, this is known as a 'bait and switch' sales technique and most people consider it highly unethical.
Look. I know Turbine has to make money. I have no problem with them making money, but raising prices 30% or more after selling points to people and then retroactivly claiming it was a sale when it WAS NOT is incredibly shady for a business to do. If it wasn't, why exactly do you think people are so upset about it? If it had been CLEARLY marked as a sale, that would be one thing, but not only was it not clear, it was non-existent. Even if it had been marked, glitches out of the customer's control kept MANY customers from being able to take advantage of the sale (just look at the forums or talk to someone in game) so at the VERY least itshould have been extended.
To make your store analogy be actually correct, this would have to happen: Best Buy sells all it's best items for what seems to be a reasonable price with no marking of a sale and no announcement of a sale. But you can't buy from them without converting your money to Best Buy Points (BBP) Buying BBP is glitched so that only around 50-60% get their points in the first few days. People spend money on BBP with exact purchases in mind. Before many customers GET their BBP, everything they wanted to buy goes up in price by 30-40%. They now have their devalued BBP, cannot exchange it back for US dollars, and have no choice but to wait an unspecified amount of time to buy what they want on sale, or buy it for a hyper-inflated price. Classic bait-and-switch. Why should customers be satisfied with this treatment? How can you defend this?
It looks like Turbine blew it here. Even if the items were on sale, they apparently weren't marked as such. Turbine should do the right thing here and extend the sale prices for a while longer. They should also clearly mark items as on sale.
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
On the other hand can you play Runes of magic or similar game that doesn't charge you for quests.
I'd stay away for a while, I think they will have to change some of the things they are charging for. My EQ2 guild talked about moving to LOTRO now but when they heard how the F2P model worked they canceled it.
I don't believe charging for quests will work and they will lose potential players because of it. SOE also messed up the F2P model for EQ2X, they will have to rethink some of this.
If DDO is any kind of indication of how they run the store, they have weekly sales on different store items. Low selling quest packs are often offered for 50% off and the best sellers you can find 25%. And there is sales banners all over the DDO website so maybe the same will be done in LOTRO. PS those complaining its not really FTP I agree you do not get the whole game, but you could not even log on and at least grind points without the model. So put the time in, which is ALOT of time you get the game for free.
There was a large sale going on from headstart till yesterday, not only where alot of items 30% lower, you also got more TPs for your money. Obviously stuff wont be on sale forever, if it was it wouldnt be a sale. If you missed something during the sale, you can wait till it is on sale again. And lets not argue wether it was a sale or not, they where 30% cheaper, they will be30% cheaper again at some time, who cares?
Because someone disagrees w/ you they are trolling?
If you want a forum where everyone must agree w/ you 100%, then make one and ban the people that you don't have the brains to argue with. Until then, realize that people will often interpret things differently than you on public forums and are aloud to express their opinions.
The sale has been extended til tomorrow (Sunday the 12th).
Plus there is going to be bugs being its a new verison with an added business model, so its half f2p/half p2p. There has been less issues and bugs then when DDO made the conversion by far.
Gamer-4-Life
IT. WAS. NOT. MARKED. OR . ANNOUNCED. AS. A. SALE.
They sold people points, indicating that points could purchase X item at Y price with not a word that this was a sale price and then jacked the prices up before people could use the points. How can you defend this practice? So now people who wanted to buy soemthing and paid for it have to wait an unspecified amount of time for it to MAYBE be on sale again while getting nothing for their money in the meantime? You think paying customers should be HAPPY with that kind of treatment? Are you a masochist or just out of your mind?
Why can't they just have a on sale tag next to the items like all other stores in the world? Really not too much to ask for and I am pretty sure they actually would earn money on that, it is the reason all other stores have them.
Except that the grocery store analogy was grossly incorrect if you have any understanding of the situation whatsoever. This isnt a matter of opinion, it's a fact. See my revised analogy on the previous page. And maybe before making more comments, you should actually READ the entire thread the OP linked to, not just the first post that was modded by a GM for damage control.
