(well..maybe not the first to say this.) IIf the game wasn't good enough to play when you paid a mere $15.00 per month then I doubt you'll like it even if the quests were free. Fortunately I already bought all the Xpacs and Adventure pack..so most of the major things will still be available should I go from VIP to premium. I'll just have to buy any future content and the other misc stuff that will drain my wallet. They really should ease back on some of the pricing and stop deliberately number crunching for optimum profit. I know it's a business but care just a little about your customers turbine...there is still plenty of profit to be made without charging an arm and a leg. Still good to have the option to pay or not...but it really is only bareable to me because I already own all the current content.
There was a large sale going on from headstart till yesterday, not only where alot of items 30% lower, you also got more TPs for your money. Obviously stuff wont be on sale forever, if it was it wouldnt be a sale. If you missed something during the sale, you can wait till it is on sale again. And lets not argue wether it was a sale or not, they where 30% cheaper, they will be30% cheaper again at some time, who cares?
The sale has been extended til tomorrow (Sunday the 12th).
Source? I havent found this info anywhere, and just logged into the game and nothing has changed. Only things on sale is the new sale items that nobody wants like limited maps, and small morale pots and the like. None of the items that were originally on 'sale' that people are angry about (vault, stat tomes, wardrobe slots) are on sale still.
First of all, they went f2p to increase their game revenue. Apparently the industry believes that brings them more money than a group of dedicated gamers paying a sub every month.
Second of all; they are increasing prices already. I believe you can be TOO greedy and make your playerbase realize you don't care about game content or quality. Obvious greed like that will make them leave. I know I wouldn't stay in a game where I knew all they wanted was my hard earned cash.
I'm telling you this: You get an interesting game, loaded with features, skip eye candy, good game mechanics, frequent updates on content, and you will gain a DEDICATED bunch of players.
I know I used to come home from work and sit on WoW for at least 4 hours a day. That was my entertainment.
I used to play SWG at least 4 hours a day. They still have a VERY DEDICATED playerbase in spite of the NGE.
Myself; as soon as I hear cash shop or microtransactions and I don't even look past that. Just the way I am. I want a game I can invest my time in. To know that if I want epic things, I need to invest time; not pay money. I'm sure you all wont' agree and that's fine. That's what makes us different.
To sum it all up: Don't rape the playerbase for hard earned cash. Unless you give them immersion, and content; your cash shop playerbase will take off for the next trend game.
Actually Turbine goes F2P because it actually increases their subscriptions. You CANT play the game without spending money. You are so gimped that nobody would want you in their group if you don't have a sub.
That doesn't have much to do with it, I am a vip and I wouldn't care if someone was vip or not the problem is that if you are a premium player after the starter zones you can't access any quests so if you want to follow me around and then just stand outside of the questing area or better yet grind mobs while I'm questing I could not care less.
You can play the game and have access to a bit more than I thought they would offer for free but of course if there is still a sub fee it would stand to reason there must be something/things worth paying for.
As for the op the game released a few days ago and maybe just maybe you are looking at things at a sale price or whatever. biggest point being it takes more than three days to set a precedent if you want to consider what they are doing a scam it should have to be atleast more than a week old to see that pattern. Right now all you are saying is they changed the price on something.

For the love of God, read things before you respond to them. This is a COMPLETELY different sale, selling consumables and maps. NONE of which have anything to do with the supposed 'sale' items from the headstart.
The items that were never listed as a sale but were raised that people are upset about (read the damn thread!)
- Stat tomes
- Vault Space
- Wardrobe Space
And this is what you link me to telling me that it's an extension of the 'sale':
50% Off the Writ of Special Passage
20% Off All Travel Maps
20% Off Monster XP and Item XP Boosts
20% Off Skirmish Boosts
It's a completely different sale selling consumables instead of the things people actually wanted to buy that have been jacked up 30% in price with no notice.

Why can't they just have a on sale tag next to the items like all other stores in the world? Really not too much to ask for and I am pretty sure they actually would earn money on that, it is the reason all other stores have them.
Duh because it just launched? Do you go all postal over some new grocery store thats missing some sale signs because he just opened 2 ago aswell? Obviously they need these sale signs, DDO has them, LotRO will get them. Its not a conspiracy, its not bait and switch, its not even a markup of existing products, just shoddy shopdesign.
Just look at that thread, one poster says he is not seeing any sales today, the next says he is seeing 8 pages etc. When i tried the shop i was also told there where no sales, however i was also told there where no vault upgrades for me and no crafting thingies etc. Obviously the store is bugged to hell, responsive as stone and as smooth as sandpaper. Which part of that wasn't obvious after spending 10 seconds in it?
I didn't see the sale listed myself, but i have no reason to think other people that claim to have seen it are lying, not when my own store session was obviously bugged.
No thanks, I am having a great time playing the game... I haven't run into any issues and haven't really felt the need to buy anything yet anyways. Sorry that you're having such a hard time adjusting. Shame because it is a great game. So I guess the sky isn't falling for everyone.

This is very simple, and Snoopy the Turbine sychophant just doesn't understand.
1) The 'sale' items were never marked as sale items. Ever. Actually READ the thread past the GM-modded OP. Most people thought that the listed prices were the normal prices. Everyone in my Kin did, and every person I've talked to did. They were not marked as sale items in the store, and there was NO announcement that it was any kind of 'grand opening sale'.
[edit] *SOLVED* Prices were on sale before in "Today's Deals" and no longer are. It was my mistake in not understanding the sale mechanic. You only know what items are on sale by clicking on the "Today's Deals" button. Going straight to the item will not notify you the item is on sale. I personally welcome a sale mechanic and will just have to wait until the items I want go back on sale. Sorry for my confusion. *SOLVED* [end edit]

You've obviously read the thread. Now tell me, was this or was this not, as by the VAST majority consensus on that thread , marked as a sale?
As for being a small issue, I've talked to over 20 peopl ein game, plus that thread has the most replies on the entire new forums now, filled with anger. Obviously someone besides me feels that jacking up the prices of NON SALE items after selling points to people IS a freaking big deal. Maybe you like getting ripped off, most people dont.

Well someone in that thread that the prices are now the same as in beta which leads me to think that they were on sale during the pre-release but that something was wrong with the store not showing it. I expect there to be issues the first week in the store so nothing I would get upset about.
To be honest I don't care what prices Turbine put in the store. If they are to expensive I wont by them . Just like everything else in life. If no one buys them they will have to lower the price,

Quite a coincidence that all of the items most wanted in the store by early access players were 'accidentally' shown lower with no sale markings even though their sales mechanics are quite clearly working for this weekend's sale of junk nobody wants. The prices were low just long enough for people to buy points, and the processing delays just long enough for the prices to rise by 30% before people GOT their points. Thats an awful lot of coincidence that just happens to make Turbine more money in the short-term. Sorry. Not buying it.
As for just not buying the stuff, I agree 100%. It's just that I hate seeing slimy business tactics like this used by a company I used to have a great deal of respect for. This is the kind of thing people expect from game companies like EA, but from Turbine? It's disheartening, which I suppose is why Im so incensed over it. That and the people defending it.
Dude, I read the whole thread. The OP edited his original post, and the GM colored the text. The OP also posted on one of the later pages the same thing, that he made a mistake.
Other people saw the sales. Some people didn't. Other people went and looked at the beta info, and the extra storage was in beta for 995 points, not 665. Everything points to the fact that they had a sale, the store is buggy, and you are too emotionally attached.
That doesn't mean the prices are reasonable. I don't know, cuz I ain't spending. However, there is little proof pointing a to conspiracy.
Certainly, if they had planned it like that, it would be the stupidest move evar. I mean intentionally piss off everybody 2 days after launch? Especially since the game is pretty damn boring.
If you went into a music shop and a record was 30% off for a few days, would you moan at the clerk that you missed the sale, or go around telling people to avoid the store?
"Lets say a new clothing store opens. They have all the prices clearly listed on the piles of clothes. You see a sweater you want to buy, its selling for $20. Theres no "sale price" posters up. You go up to the counter to buy the sweater, and they say you have to buy a gift card to purchase anything. You go ahead and buy $20 worth of gift cards. You then try to buy the sweater, and the clerk tells you that you only have $2 on your card, its a mistake, it will be sorted out soon, they say. A couple days later, you go back and the clerk says your $20 is back. You go to buy that sweater you wanted but the price is now $30 instead of $20.
What would you do? Would you just shrug and say, "hey, thats capitalism"? Nope, Id bet my life you'd insist on the sweater for the original price. And in the real, adult retail world, youd get the sweater for $20, an apology, and probably a free gift card.
See what I did there?
Lets not hold a RETAIL, CASH outlet that the Turbine Store is, any less accountable then a brick and mortar store. Or heck, any other online store in existance. Theres gotta be laws about this. Just because its a GAME, we shrug it off. Well that excuse just went out the window when they started taking credit cards for in game items.
I'm done playing lotro because of the free to play added but from what i was reading you ear turbine points for doing DEEDS so maybe if the low level zones you get for free by completing all the deeds in those zones you may have enough turbine points earned to buy the next lvl zones without spending a cent.
Just what i got from the info i have gatherd so far. And doing the deeds is something that gives your char better stats and stuff. Not sure if doing all the deeds will give enough to by the quests packs or not but I don't think anyone playing it as f2p for the first time has had any chance to do all the starter ones to find out if you get enough Turbine points to buy the next quest packs you need.
Like i said just a thought not sure if it is possible but it could be.
If you went into a music shop and a record was 30% off for a few days, would you moan at the clerk that you missed the sale, or go around telling people to avoid the store?
If the music store charged me for non-refundable Music Store Points, didnt give me the points for 2 days, then jacked up the prices 30% before I could buy the albums I wanted, I sure as hell WOULD complain and tell people to avoid the store.

Except that if you actually, oh, I dont know, READ THE THREAD, you'll find out that it was NOT listed in Today's Deals for the vast majority of people, and unlike the current sale this supposid 'sale' was never announced. Ever. But go ahead, stop reading a 10+ page issue at the OP and announce it over with as if you had the slightest idea what you were talking about.

Someone (Pluck from lotro forum) come up with this, I agree
I sense some changes to the ELUA coming..."
I never use the f2p cash shops so Ill keep on playing thank you very much.
If the music store charged me for non-refundable Music Store Points, didnt give me the points for 2 days, then jacked up the prices 30% before I could buy the albums I wanted, I sure as hell WOULD complain and tell people to avoid the store.
/end thread.
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
