Okay I'm going to ask the question the other poster asked.... What exactly do you consider fluff? Because the game definitely has fluff you can earn to make yourself look awesome.

    This is not a game.

  • dinamsdinams Member Posts: 1,362

I dont get it why he keeps saying he will have to pay to get content when it was already explained about 20 times that the only things you buy in the store is optional stuff.

You buy the box = You get the content of the entire fucking game.

You buy stuff on the store = Cosmetic, optional stuff that dont really interfere in the gameplay.

    The OP got confused somehow

"Yes, I now understand what B2P means here. It's cash shop driven F2P, but with added box cost to get started.

    If it isnt, how so?"

Mhm.  Clearly you aren't even reading my posts now (or pretending not to), so I guess that's the end of that discussion.

What we're trying to tell you is that the "fluff" IS NOT important to your progression.... what don't you get??

No need to be rude, I certainly havent been, I get exactly what is being said.

My point is that 'fluff' is important to me and i am dissapointed that this game will charge me extra for it. We arnt all about 'prgression' you know? Some of us like to play the game to earn the so called 'fluff'. Now I know i will have to buy it as an extra i will probably pass.

Please, lets not turn this into a nasty thread, i am not flaming anyone.

What would you rather have charge extra for fluff or a subscription?

They got to pay the bills and make a profit somehow

The play another game, GWII selling point is B2P.

Apart from that is just another generic mmo.

Also all i got to say is get used to paying for fluff because every mmo is doing it now and its only going to get worse.

Well, obviously I will now be playing another game. This thread was a enquiry to help me clarify that decision.

But really? B2P is a main selling point for the game? When it is just cash shop driven F2P that double dips you for a box cost? Thats surprising.

As for getting used to it.. well, nah. I will keep playing the games that don't charge me extra for in game rewards. If it gets to the point that there truly arnt any of them left then i will quit, it's all good. If the games arnt offering me what i am looking for anyway there would be no point in me playing them anyhow and theres plenty of other stuff to do :)

Just to clear things up cause people aren't able to. Im assuming here that u consider fluff; vanity pets, costumes, mounts, special titles, and anything that you would be able to display on your character in game. Assuming that is correct, GW1 did not have any of that in its cash shop, and anything that would be displayed as an achievement for your character you would earn by doing in game stuff, ill repeat. YOU EARN EVERY ACHIEVEMENT IN GW1. Now they plan on making GW2 cash shop the exact same thing. So in GW2 there will be no; pets, mounts, clothing, weapons, stat changing items, achievements of any kind in its cash shop

no what I said is that you DONT get charged for 85% of the content in a allusion to the way turbine manage their games.

If you buy the box you get 100% of the content of the game.

    You misunderstood it.

Anyway I do not get how it is double dipping if they are not charging a subscription, the cash shop is just another alternative to get money flowing into the business.

Please.  Do us all a favor and go read what he actually said instead of what you wanted it to say.

You get the entire content.  The earlier poster was referring to how in most "f2p" games you have to buy 85% of the content.  That is not the case in GW2.

HE WAS TALKING ABOUT LOTRO when he said 85% blah blah blah!!!

I knew that confused you .... jeez....

Like we've been trying to tell you for the past 3 pages. You can earn what you need in-game.. Fluff and all. All the stuff you can by from the shop doesn't make you any better at the game....

    This is not a game.

Seriously? You're saying that extra Character slots, Server transfers, sex changes, class changes, and so forth should be provided free? Because that's the only things in the "Item shop" at GW.  Those things have always been paid services since the start in every MMORPG you will ever play....

~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!

In order to avoid confusion, you should point out that there are no paid server transfers (completely free) and no option for class change in GW1.  GW2 does not cost for server transfers either, although the class change is unknown at this point.

I've not played Guild Wars since it was first released so I don't know their paid services, I was just implying that it is generally understood that you have to pay for such services (usually)

Are you sure about that? http://www.massively.com/2009/12/18/guild-wars-adds-costumes-just-in-time-for-wintersday/

I dont think there are costumes slots in GW2.

Just to do not cause any confusions about this one...

    Q: What are costumes?

A: Costumes are items that are equipped into a character's costume slots to change their appearance. Costumes are decorative items only. They are worn over a character's existing armor without affecting any stats.

Well, personally, I am play to achieve gamer (rather then pay to achieve), so i would rather pay a sub and play to earn my 'fluff', but thats just me.

Like i say, now I know that I will have to pay extra for all that now i will probably pass on this game. I am sure it will be great for the people that like to buy their in game stuff for their character though :)

Thank you for knowing the difference between fluff and in game services, and for giving me the first clear answer all thread.

So it is just game services they are charging for? ok, well thats better and good to hear.

Maybe raz needs to do a little research first.

Meh, well, I take that back. Looks like NCSoft are imposing the same double dip approach onto this franchise as they did Aion after all.

Looks like all those angry guys shouting at me that I get 100% of the 'fluff' content from the box were just wrong.

    Thats a shame.

That's GW1, not GW2.  As far as I've seen there's been no official info specifying that cosmetic items will be part of the cash shop in GW2.

When you buy the box, you get ALL of the content, ALL of the armor, access to ALL of the weapons and access to ALL of the skills.  There is nothing in the planned cash shop that will improve your charecter at all.  No double XP coins, No mana boosters, no special weapons or mounts.  The only thing in the planned cash shop is coustumes, name/server/sex changes, extra charector slots and expansions to the game (when and if any are released).  Addational storage panes have not been confirmed.

Guild Wars 2 is a Buy the Box to play game.  PERIOD.  There is no need to EVER use the cash shop.  This is a design goal of the developers; "there will be nothing in item shop that affects game play, ever."
