In addition to what was announced here today, we are also planning massively multiplayer battles.
There currently exist several class abilities which may have players scratching their heads as to how they are to be used. Many of these were designed with PVP in mind. While we cannot reveal much regarding PvP now, we have some exciting announcements planned for the near future.
Well that is expected, FFXI have PVP (batista and branner) then i assume FFXIV will have it too.
FFXI have a really balanced PVP if you didn't notice. Of course, not every class can kill each other, they are still set to their roles. I think that is what game should be, no PVP game should allow PVP one man army like.

I played pvp in WOW almost exclusively and nothing compared to being a complete ass to the other team as BRD/NIN in ballista.... so much fun! Looking forward to a taste of PVP with a hearty helping of PVE.
I liked the pokemon game in FF11, lol. Im hoping for something similar in ff14 :P

I love every kinda snail.
I just want to hug them all, but I cant.
Cant hug every snail.
Ballista you mean lol:p Batista is a former wrestler.;P
the game mechanics just make it so bad for PVP though. Target lock for example and targetting is just so slow and cumbersome. Not to mention the servers are so bad if more than 1200 players are online, combat becomes very laggy.
some classes arent supposed to be able to kill other classes? i'm surprised any class, can kill any class..
enjoy trying to figure out whats going when your strike executes 5 seconds after you hit the button.. UI programmer = weak.
so, they diluted the pc version to make the console version.. have fun with a half baked game
We will! Have fun with whatever game u end up playing.

You guys seem to be blind to the fact that the UI lag is going to ruin the game.
imagine being on a boss and everyone trying to coordinate with multi second delays, didnt get that heal? too bad i hit the button when i was supposed to.
i've tried level 12 3 man quests and its hard enough to coordinate any kind of attack with major delays.
that is most likely the server lag as well. The server lag sucks fucking ass.
Accept that its not for you. But the idea that its ur place to convince others not to like it is pathetic.

All you guys crying UI lag is going to be very suprised when the game launches. Don't you understand that during beta a debugger usually runs in the background not to mention that everything isn't as streamlined. I heard the same thing during AoC beta and a few other betas because the games ran sluggish. After they launched it went away. Same will happen here. Final fantasy isn't meant to be fast paced action anyways. Its more of a tactical RPG then anything.
The pvp battles are something I have been hoping for an this is great news. I cannot wait for the launch.
Is this a good thing for FF fans?

In beta, they don't do certain things until it's over. One of them is called optimizing the performance.
See, right now in beta-weta, there's all these little fancy things busily taking down all this tiny, teeny weeny data (metrics) for some really smart guys to look at. Then when they are done, they will turn those things off and the game will run smoother. It's like... magic!
Then, they sprucey woosy the game up, then thay put ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL that really complicated stuff on some diskie whiskies and make ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL these copy woppies (but not on floppies). Then they sent it to everybody in the world who wants one and they play it.
When those people play it, it's called launchy wonchy. That's when the people fighting bossey wossies don't have to imagine because they are actually playing it then.
"TO MICHAEL!"
PvP will be weird with everyone being able to do everything.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
and you seem blind to the fact that the hardware mouse that is being enabled takes care of the UI lag.
Lol you my new favourite haha hilarious. Although, much of the changes will be in the form of a patch people will install after they install the disc right? Cause the manufacturing probably happened already?

I know its not for me, but i'm stuck trying to see how someone rationalizes paying full price for something that is clearly sub standard. part is because mmos are notoriously buggy, and generally crappy at release, that should be the exception not the rule. especially with deep pockets.
It just seems very ordinary to me so i dont see where you are coming from when you say its got all this or will have. it just doesnt.
And considering when i run it the screen just goes black now for no reason, my complaints are well founded.
That's actually not true as addressed by the recent interview.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
Its really too bad you dont like the game, maybe you are special. -> see what I did there? :P Im just joshing ya. Honestly, it is too bad that you might miss out on something great. However, we will all do what we want to. And what many of us want to do is enjoy the game from day one bugs and all. Why?
Because some great stories and friendships are made during that phase. Its like Frosh week, sure its the beginning, its a huge frickon mess and we are all in it together! Eventually things get sorted out, organized and routine and our friendships continue, but the hectic beginning is always remembered. Its just part of the history of a agame. Wait it out and miss it if you like, thats your choice.

The PVP, if you could even qualify it as that, in FFXI was horrendous. Get a RDM and solo everybody in the zone... great fun. The PVP in XIV will also be horrendous. Maybe they're trying to appeal to a larger audience, but the demographic interested in PVP will not like FF style PVP.
FXI had balanced PVP? Do you even know what you're saying? There's 20 classes that could have 20 different subjobs. Not to mention the ridiculously huge gear discrepencies.
RDM can solo everybody but not rdm can't fight 2 people at once. FFXI is a team game PVP is still team base. I really have a lot of fun playing team base PVP, of course some people like duel more.
Back in WOW when people doesn't care about magicial dmg addition, i can 3 shot anyone with a level 60 mage.

PvP in this game is gonna fail, unless you are come in knowing it's just 'fun' and nothing of real value is attached. I hope people who are looking forward to it realizes that right off the bat.
This is not a PvP game where you pick a class, level it to max or twinkability and then start "pwing" people who leveled the wrong class. Whatever class YOU make that pwns, someone is just going to copy it by putting those skills in their build.
If you make a Archer with Pug Second Wind, Conjurer's Thunder, and Thaumaturge's Shock Spikes and by some crazy chance it works.. someone else is going to do just that...right away. SE already made sure of that because of the surplus so you'll be leveling other toon's anyways.
No one will pwn, because everyone will own once "the build" is out. In FFXI, that was NIN/RDM in the early days.. dunno what replaced that.
So if you can live with the idea that eventually EVERYONE will be super and your battles start to resemble two tanks or two clerics dueling each other with no clear advantage, happy days.
But as Obi Wan said "This is not the PvP game you're looking for."
"TO MICHAEL!"
You really think with all these classes everyone out there is just going to be able to jump from one setup to the next 'right away'?? I'm thinking they are going to be out leveling classes for weeks/months once they realize thier limited lateral advancement has them gimped.

For instance, this is gonna be one of the pvp "pwner spells"-
Lv40 - Chainspell
Repeat your incantation, reducing cast times, recast times, and stamina costs.
Cast time 0
Recast time 300
And that's no good unless you have this:
Lv44 - Flare/Freeze/Burst/Flood/Tornado/Quake
Deals massive fire/ice/lightning/water/wind/earth damage to enemies within area of effect.
Cast time 3 (Flare has a cast time of 6, also has a higher damage modifier then all other spells)
Recast time 20
Mp cost 100
Plus there's more and that's just ONE toon. Imagine when they want to mix/match skills at top level. No pvp person is going to spend the time to those levels for that. They would have quit this game long before all that PvE.
My post was not meant for the casual PvPvEer, as they don't have anything but time and will do 'sports pvp'. The people who join this game LOOKING for pvp is who I am adressing.
They are going to take the fastest, easiest route to Pwndom. Especially when they could be playing other PvPvE games more suited for PvP purposes.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Preordered.
PvP? In a game full of PvE fans that swear there is no place for PvP in their game? Sounds like fun.
I can overlook the worst UI in the mmo world just to try out the slowest pvp ever created by a software development team. Lets do it!
Your absolutely right, and exactly what I was pointing out. The hardcore PvP player is NOT going to spend the time and effort to level anythign but the bare minimum classes they think they need to be the top. That I agree with comepletly. What happens though when they all start getting their ass handed to them by the poeple willing to do the lateral leveling? They will find out how gimp they really are by trying to rush to the top. This games design will not favor them at all, they will end up hating it because it will require more work on the PvE side than they will be willing to put in.
