There are potions in the cash shop that can't be obtained in-game. There was a lot of controversy over those on the official boards a while back.
There are also stat tomes in the cash shop that give +10, +20, +30 to your stats (vitality, might, agility, etc...).
correction
there was 1 potion in the beta that ws not dropped ingame, I am not even sure it made it to retail since there was a huge fuss over it from the beta players.
The stat tomes also drop ingame and they only come in one size which is +10 to your stats. There is a limit of 650 to any given stat. I bought 1 +10 str for a lvl 65 warden. His str was over 600 before I bought the booster. After playing a bit I decided it was a waste of money because going going from 605 to 615 I could tell little if any difference in my gameplay. Besides I want to see what my stats are at the end of fininhing the new zone, cause there is some good EQ being quested up there.
here is a link to the store items, as you can see the huge majority are cosmetic

Jack, you have to buy the stat tomes in numerical order to see them in the shop. You buy the +10, that opens the +20, which opens the +30. The +40 and +50 are ingame drops only and are rare.
And while those tomes may not do much for your level 65, they'll do a hell of a lot for low level toons.

Sorry the servers do not lag at all for me.. i'm thinking it might be your computer or maybe the server you're one. *shrug* no issues here... works great.
You lie. Maybe what you consider to be fast is slow to the rest of the world. I am a lifetime subscriber of the game and was playing vigorously prior to the f2p release. One of the major issues I noticed after the release was lag. Both my buddy and I were teamed up the other day and we both lagged out and were killed by the mobs. I play on Firefoot.
I bought the game soon after release then bought the expansion. I deleted the game after I tried numerous times to set up a vip account.
There is no such thing as "set up a VIP account". You can buy the lifetime option, or pay a monthly sub. If you do so, you'll be a VIP player.
DB
I have tried to set up the monthly, but all I get are the 1.00 temp authorizations on my credit card (4 of them as we speak). It keeps showing me as a premium member. This was last week and still no VIP. I wrote to account managemenet over a week ago and still no response.
I try and log into the game and I am always 10-15 minutes in queue. Then the lag starts. Too many players. I never had to wait before. Turbine didnt think this one through. Dont get me wrong, I dont hate the game. The game is one of the most beautiful games out there and I was anxious to play again and set up my sub, but I see there are allot of changes that need to be made, so I will probably wait a year or so to try again.

Ok, I got your point now. Seems to be a bit of bad luck as well, not trying to give an excuse to Turbine though
I really hope you don't have to wait for a year, keep checking forums and when you don't see these kind of complaints, i'd say try again.
It is nice to ride the current wave of new players, loads of activity in every low-level region these days!

I guess I will never see them then LOL, I was just debating whether it was really worth the trouble to switch toons earlier in order to make some +30 stat trail food that I make with my cook
If I find any as drops inless they are BOA I will put them on the AH.
As far as low level toons I could care less if someone wants to spend XXX amount of money to level faster than me, it aint a race and my epeenie is tiny. If you want to spend that kind of money for a epenis enhancement buy a preleveled account ~shrug~

Doesn't really bother me either, since all I do is PVE anyway. But people do look at those tomes being in the shop the same as they'd look at buying a pre-leveled character. What Turbine has failed to notice when it comes to running any sort of business, true or false doesn't matter, it's perception that's key.

I just started yesterday and leveled a hunter and loremaster to level 5. I stayed away from this game in 2007 due to the lack of PvP but decided what the hell....Give it a shot since its gone f2p and launched new servers.

LOTRO has always had a problem with lag. I used the defrag tool that Turbine supplys and it helped quite a bit but even afterwards I would still experience some hitching now and then. Of course this was before the F2P move, I can only imagine what it is like now.

It wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't added instancing ( layering, as they try to call it ) to take away the lag, only to have the lag still there AND the instancing system broken all to hell http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?354929-Dynamic-Layer.

No that bad....on Landroval you had lag spikes that lasted a few seconds long.
this complaint has been hammered to death on the official forums, but it's a real turn off for returning players who bought angmar and moria already to also pay for quest packs. I understand the game can't be completely free to play, but I felt turbine would've handled it better if they gave a reduced monthly fee for a short amount of time. Instead, a lot of former players develop bitterness about how this game became a mall outlet limiting them from content they already purchased.

Cheaper than $10 a month?
Just pay 3 months bulk for $30 , works out cheaper.

that is available to everyone though. Just a small perk, say $15 for 2 months. Right now, the veterans just feel a little betrayed because not only have they seriously slowed down on making new content, but also because this cash shop gives the game a cheap feel that it never had.
I'm calling it now in about six months turbine is going to announce 1 million active paying (VIP,lifers & CS) users and around 3 million free accounts combined in NA/Euro.
How can I say this? Because there's nothing fundamentally wrong with lotro. The reason it had around 250k subs before f2p was it wasn't as good as WoW. Now that it can be played without a hefty cash investment more will play it.

I have no doubt Turbine will announce it as a wild success. They may get held back a bit on what numbers they use for active, paying subs but the skies the limit as to claims of how many they have playing the game.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
I can't speak for any servers other than Silverlode, but I played all yesterday evening from 7 pm till 11:30 pm eastern time and not once did I see a lag spike. Played in Enedwaithe, did some crafting in the Shire, and cruised through Bree and it was fine. I did notice earlier though that Brandywine had a que even at 10am, now that is boggling.
What have changed? I heard alot about some revamp for zones, but it may have been mere rumours. Are the channels floating with crap and what about the community? I remember how awesome the game and people were, and I may just return for a visit. But F2P games are often a waste of time, in my opinion at least..
The pop is crazy high right now all 15 servers have ques of 10+ min depending if your a VIp or not.
It's not the population that is causing the queing, it's the throttling back of the que priorities based on which of the 3 levels of play you are opting to go for - free, premium or VIP. The population is actually down as per this server checker:

Before I would see 1-2 million on weekends and several hundred thousand on weeknights but the highest I've seen so far is about 400K last weekend. Sits around 150-300K on most weeknights.
