I think Spoony puts it in a well way, at least from the combat point of view, that is, unless they are going to patch the mouse and lower tlhe sys requirements and spice up the action. But hey, the grafics are really good...

This was my issue with the gamepad. I am however looking forward the (*cry*) 6 months away release of the PS3 so I can do some of the gathering (fishing.... WOOT!) during the wee evening hours on my PS3/plasma once the better half goes to sleep.

Considering the fact that the player will have to pay a montlhy fee this can be seen as a flaw.

Im sorry but ffxiv wants you to be more than one class, it bases your development on that fact, if you 100% gladiator, i dont want you in my party, ever, because your a GIMP

And think back to ffxi, remember how long it took to find a party?  Esp if you started in 06 or 07? Because everyone was already maxed out, now i wont have that issue will i?  There will be someone or other people at the same level that will party with me.

On top of that, why would SE want a community that wil get to level 50 in 2 weeks and quit because they outplayed the game?

Well, we wouldn't want a game where people are free to make their own choices and experiment with their own builds would we? Nice to know you min / maxers are already excluding people from your party before the game even launches image

I say FF died the day it's founder left to form his own company Blue Dragon and Square Enix is run by people who care about one market and one market only. The playstation 3 japenese console market. Granted due to business economics and logistics they occasionally have to branch out (see: DX3). Yet, things one does because one must do not count when tallying up the truth of a company. In other words even if Mussolini did throw awesome parties on occasion, he was still Mussolini.

I'd rather suck at Halo:Reach and get teabagged all day long than be the most popular and epic played in FFXIV. However, it is fun to talk about the game on forums, I simply argue that it would be more fun to have a great MMORPG to play instead. That being said 2011 isn't too far away unless you're stuck in slow time like me and in that case, see ya on Reach.

They already announced a few days ago now that they're adding hardware mouse and intend to have the UI lag dealt with for release.

    This isn't news anymore.

Then I shall be waiting reports here regarding lag and mouse/key ops. However, I have heard similar "promises" from recently relported games that never deliver which is why I shall continue to "hope" for news. Nevertheless, the action in this game may not be fit for my playstyle and with the economy like it is, upgrading for one game is a big decission on top of the game price and monthly fee. Thank you for responding to the post.

Well, I'm pretty sure a hardware mouse is guaranteed. And when I used the hardware mouse, it got rid of the mouse lag completely.

However, the overall performace didn't change at all. If you are having issues with that, then yeah, pass on it.

Pretty much how I feel and the funny thing is the cities are also dead in the beta.

Pretty much how my friends and I feel also.

Do your friends constantly troll the FFXIV forums at a website?  Cause I don't see spoony doing it.  See how he posts a review and then moves on it.  This is what reasonable people do.  Even when they are as big of a tool as spoony is lol.

You'll have to look up the meaning of the word troll.  Posting something negetive about a game doesn't make you a troll or invalidate your opinion.  Following people's posts with nonsense meaningless mouth exercise would be a better example.

Posting honest opinions good and bad are what the forums are for.  Explaining these  things to people that won't accept that fact is boring.

Doing it once or doing it twice is not trolling but when you continue to repeat yourself and keep posting same negative comments over and over again then yes it is TROLLING.

People seem to forget sometimes that the point of being a reviewer is to both present information and opinion in this case the problem with FF XIV isn't really the game but more with SE. It doesn't matter if the game is good or bad but at PAX they did a horrible job with dealing with the press and part of the job is dealing with negative press and not simply blowing them off. The next job is to generate excitement and enthusiasm (hype if you will) for the product and in all of these cases SE is not doing very well.

As someone that has little experience with the back catalogue of FF much of the early press and videos and developer discussions got me interested in the game but now the pretentious video releases and tone deaf marketing is reducing that interest very quickly.

With Guild Wars 2 Arenanet is doing a fantastic job in building up interest in game ahead of its launch. The game may turn out to be horrible and you might end up feeling cheated but right now of the two games the one I want to go to the store and spend my money on is GW2.

Ultimately, the quality of both games will decide their long term success or failure but in general poorly managed marketing and development is seldom a good sign.

I guess when you're out of arguments your going for the instults, how typical. I'm sorry but it's up to the player and not YOU to decide what build he/she wants to make, and in this sense it IS limiting. Hell it is STILL limiting even if you burn two classes simultaniously -> you can max both before the countdown of the first one expires and then you off with crafting.

As for the second part clearly you missed my point.  you don't NEED to show of the whole game, you WANT however to show of the most interesting aspects of it, show SOME not ALL of the quests, beyond leves, beyond just the first 5 minutes intro, a smart dev. company will WANT to hook you up on their game by showing some of the more interesing parts of it, they will WANT to show that they have diversity in the game. SE DID NOT DO S...*H....*.I....* and there it goes the T. They done the most lazy ass poor job of showing their game during the Open Beta. Look. You do stress the servers etc it's all great, but beyond that you get tons upon tons of potential customers that registered an SE acc and got the key for the beta. If you're a smart dev, you will try to attract those potential cusmoters as good as you can without giving up the whole game to them, so that people will be interested to continue playing after the beta is over and the game is released, that's how you can get a good crowd right from the start, instead what they did, they showed some mediocre show of an open beta, with nothing to do in it, aside from crafting and basic levequests which is go and kill an N number of monsters, rince and repeat combined with UI that did not appeal to many gamers who participated during the beta. Now if they claim that the game is HUGE they COULD have shown some more of the story, the COULD have showned some quests that will have a plot to it and not "kill N monsters" quests, they COULD allow the harwdare support for the mouse ( hey that's the problem that was there from the closed beta, what they didn't have time to adjust some configs during the past 2 month? ). It's not that the game is god awful, it's how they turned the potential cusomers away.

Or do you want to say that a dev. that is interested in profiting will miss the appartunities?

I mean yes, eventualy they will polish the game add more stuff etc, and they will probably have a second succesful MMO, just because it's FF, eventualy some people that played the OB and canceled their pre-orders prly will return to check the game out and maybe even like it ( I know I will check it out couple of months from now, it will probably improve quite a bit by that time) but many will not.

P.S. And no I'm not bashing the game and saying how bad it is, and I'm not trying to judge the game based on the it's small part from Open beta, I'm just wondering why SE missed such an opportunity to grab so many buyrs by their hand. ( although it did attract some of them/you). Ehhh we will see how it's going to turn out verry soon.

Oh and let me stress it out again as I did 101 times during the beta -> the animations are stellar, just amazing, supperb, wonderful, and I can only give my humble applause to SE for that.

Build up is a marketing technique in the MMO genre. An extremely deceptive one at that. How easy people forget. AoC had the best build up of any mmo to date, all these wonderful features and promises, and "epic" trailers just to end up with broken features and half truths. Dont give me funcom =/= arena net argument, thats not a valid argument relevent to the topic of build up.

I still have a sliver a faith in humanity that one day someone will realize that talk is cheep. But I guess the old addage will always apply to the majority of gamers, "A fool and his money are easily parted".

well why would they need to attract more when they or will eventually get more regardless , of what was shown , i think japanese developers dont give a shit what western press would think anyways because our press is already biased on most of their games anyways so they do what they wanna do and if people dont like it whatever and move on which is what the people who buy the games should do if they dont like it stfu move on and if you do then keep playing and enjoying it eventually the people who were praising GW2, SWTOR, WaR40k, or whatever else is coming out is eventually gonna have their game be a pos to some and jesus effin christ to others but who cares really ima be enjoying this game and not give a crap about anyone elses :P if i dont like it but the same people that were bitching and moaning are gonna be bashing something else they dont like lol but ima be lol @ them.
