FFXIV ~ Best MMORPG Launch in History

taus01taus01 Member Posts: 1,352

So far there are no problems whatsoever with registration, payment, login, character creation, crashes or lag. The game runs faster than the Open Beta, UI is about 10x faster, really snappy now.

Servers already hitting population limit and are expanded immediately within 10 minutes.

Cutscenes and scenery has been updated with additional effects and new scenes.

Hardware Mouse Cursor can be enabled.

Crafting has been improved.

Simply all major problems reported in OB have been addressed and fixed.

First Maintenance has been announced for Sep. 23, 2010 9:00 to 12:00 (PDT) in preparation for the weekend.

Crossing my fingers but so far i don't see anything bad happening.

Best MMORPG release so far. 10/10

Good to hear, and enjoy. I just don't need another revisit where a MMO sucks my soul dry (FFXI) :D

though for me im having same patcher issues where the ffxiv torrent client downloads so  slow as it did in beta so if i manually do it  with my Vuze it downloads fine and patchs..also all of us ce editions got a 30 day buddy key so if you do not need yours to give out do as i did and give it to someone on here that you think could use it.

All major issues from OB fixed? Cool - can you post a screenie of the new UI? I might give it a go if they have sorted it out!

The UI is the same, why change that? They just removed the UI lag and mouse lag. Sure, it's not your standard UI, but everyone with a few braincells left can figure it out. It takes 10 Minutes to get used to, same as the famous EQ UI everyone uses now (incl. WoW).

The release went smoothly because so many people left.  The user interface is horrible.  HORRIBLE.  I didn't want to play this game on the PC so I could pretend I was on a console... if I wanted to play using a gamepad then I would be waiting for the PS3 version.  Making the interface the same one as for the PS3 is sloppy and insulting.   Its clunky, awkward and counter-intuitive.

Having a system where you have to pull out and put away your weapon is lame, but I would have accepted it, I did in Aion but they add to it's horribleness by making it so when you try to do a command that won't work in that mode, it doesn't tell you why, it just says no soup for you.  Why?  Who knows.  If you are trying to figure out the game, its frustrating.  Also if I try to sit, and my weapon is out... code it to auto put away the weapon.  And vise versa.  Its just annoying and a waste of time.  Also you /sit and want to get moving again, so you try to move... nope.  You can't even /stand.  You have to go into a menu and click on an icon that wasn't there before.  Awsome forethought on the programmers part.

Also factor in the lazy programming  as far as personal interactions.  So your bud sends you a tell, and you want to send a reply back.   Can you just /reply?  No.  Is there a quick command to respond back?  No.  /tell Firstand Lastname "I hate talking to people in this game".  But still, you get past the initial OMGWTF pain it is to chat, and then you want to invite him to a group.  Oh wait... you have to be within sight of him/her.  WHAT?  Really?  Or use this overly complicated system to try and fill your party, good luck with that monster.

Speaking of monsters, what were they thinking with the hotbar population method?  I'm all for creativity and change... when its progressing somewhere good.  But the method of putting skills on your hotbar was slow and clumsy.   I hear when you change weapons that you have to manually change back and forth the bars, it seperate what you populated the bars with by class.  Though that is just hearsay, I couldn't bring myself to play any class that long.

Toss in little annoyances like no auction house (which was what i liked best from FFXI) and no "pop up" tips and I just couldn't take any more.

The game was pretty, and the classes were imaginative, but all of those little to medium annoyances mean it will not be played by me.  I don't suggest it for anyone who doesn't have a bunch of patience.

It sounds like you want someone to hold your hand through learning the GUI or perhaps hoped for another EQ-clone?

Seriously though, having to pull out your weapon is not a big deal and you will get used to it fast. My favortie game has the same thing and so does most of my favorite solo PC games (Oblivion, etc.). You won't even think about it after paying for a bit.

No auction house is a good thing. No pop-up tips are another good thing.

    Can't do /reply?

Who cares . ... lol try /tell (firstname) (lastname)

A bunch of patience? I guess playing for an MMO couple weeks is asking too much because you would get down the controls before then?

None of the things that you mentioned are game-breaking. Trust me, I thought the same thing about my favorite game at first and I was very angry as you seem to be but give the game a chance because you don't know yet how much you are going to enjoy it.

By the way there is no way that I would play FF because I hate the art/cartoony look and it is not FFA PVP so I am not flaming you because I am a FF fanboy, but more because the things that you complained about could be a good thing. I think that they are.

Perhaps those things don't matter to you, they do for me.  I want to spend what downtime I have after work, enjoying myself with my friends.  This game was to frustrating for me to enjoy myself, and my friends decided to go elsewhere for the same reasons.

Perhaps this game will be right for some, it however is not for me.

Very impressed by this launch, and i solved my problem with the downloader by doing some portforwarding on my Zisco Modem, and ofcourse this time i also looked up my IP adress...lol, i was so angry at the damn Downloader but almost as usual it was the person behind the PC that was the problem:)

It runs very smooth now, even though(atleast at the Lindblum server)it`s crowded everywhere. 20-40fps in very crowded places and 35-60 fps (i suppose the FPS just as in the beta is locked to 60)  everywhere else with an i7-860 @ 3,1Ghz, 4gb ram and an GTX470....Everything on Max and with a resolution of 1920*1200.

I have also starting to use the ingame macrosystem so i dont have to manually switch between lets say archer and Botanist, Now i just use CTRL+1 and it is done:)

Yeah, a very plessent launch sofar.

Yeah I understand that. I just wanted to warn you that quitting so easily for those reasons could be preventing you from finding the perfect MMO that you are looking for. I went through the same thing thinking the same things about a different game but if I would have quit so soon than I would still be looking for my MMO .. . to be honest it did take some patience but after getting used to that type of gameplay it is really hard for me to go back to the EQ-clone type which I never thought could happen.

You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.

If that was in the beta, I didn't see it, and I looked through what few key bindings they had listed.  If it was added in the release, great for you, to little to late for me.

  • RhomadriRhomadri Member Posts: 12

Also, its my point.  Clumsy, awkward and counter-intuitive.  I'm sure that I missed some things.  100% positive.  I'm sure some of the issues I have with the game will be fixed someday.  Maybe next week, maybe next year.  Also I'm sure some of them will never be addressed because of their desire to be different from other games.

But if you are going to make a game for the general public, you have to either make it intuitive, or put in a superb system to obtain information.  That is not there in this game.

I find it really funny that things that have been in MMOs for ages now and were put in to get people to play and have fun in the game are now considered "hand holding" or they were "purposefully left out to weed out the WoW players". It's a shit game. Face it. Embrace it. Love it. Just stop telling everyone how great it is.

BTW.....WoW has 11 million subs. Maybe.....just MAYBE.....they're doing something right. Maybe copying some of that success would be a good idea if you were.....oh...I don't know....a game company trying to turn a profit. But what do I know. Apparently, game companies are only out there to provide niche audiences with multimillion dollar games.

WOW, wasnt this just the CE pre orders who get to play today?  Are you seriously counting that as a full blown launch and comparing it to other MMO's?  How bout we see how they do on the REAL launch day, not the CE pre-launch date.  You just earned your fanboi badge

This is basically what I was going to say, but a little nicer. FFXIV hasn't really "Launched" yet. I doubt very seriously that the majority of players are Collector's edition holders, lol.

Its probably the smoothest launch ever because a significant amount of players are still trying to install the day 1 patches with their horrible, horrible P2P updater.

I'm at 31% after 4 hours on the second patch (the big one) and no its not my router that's the problem.  I should probably just uttorent the patch but at this point its become a contest of wills between my ego and SE's string of poor design decisions.

That said I'm still looking forward to playing it.

p.s.  Please stop defending SE on their UI design.  When something is wrong its wrong.  Same for the patcher.
