Generally, yeah.  It could also be associated with people who strive to compete in the metagame too (being top ranked guild or w/e).

I think GW2 will attract hardcore PvP-focused players with GvG and WvW combat, but probably not as many hardcore PvE players, since there isn't large scale raid content.  What I mean by that is there will probably be PvE focused players that spend a lot of time playing, but probably not those that like to focus on a metagame, because there really isn't one to be had besides maybe who has the most achievements lol.

I am not hardcore player (large playing time or metagame either) but I can see myself becoming competitive in Structured GvG PvP & WvWvW PvP, joining a Guild who takes this seriously, also. Probably the latter most of all after completing the PvE.

I agree, still wondering what hardcore PvEs will be attracted to in GW2? If I spot one area/niche GW2 seems a bit light on, this would be it.

Well if they have areas such as DoA in GW2 then that can certainly provide a challenge, at least for small groups. For large structured raids, I think people will be out of luck, at least for this game.

ArenaNet have impressed me with their "covering all bases" not by watering down each feature but it seems by out-competing each!

I'm just curious what they have in-store for hardcore PvE'ers? Maybe the plateau levelling curve means that is just too antithetical to the core game design to justify apart from achievements, end-game dungeons?

Personally have always enjoyed PvP challenge more than PvE. But it would be of interest to hear the other side to the story, also from Hardcore PvE'ers....

I dont know what to answer.

I think it will attract PvP hardcore folk, but not PvE hardcore folk.

PvP will be attracted due to competitive/organized pvp.

But PvE might get frightned because the focus will not be in end-game raiding*. (Yeah dungeons, but the majority of the hardcore PvE folk likes big raiding all the day xD)

*= My personal Opinion, dont mean it is like that and I dont have a clue about it, im just guessing.

My opinion doesn't mean anything to anyone other than myself, but I am excited. I think the game is taking a very bold direction and is adding a lot of attractive features to it that are making it worth the money to play.

Considering it is only a one time buy type of game, you can never go wrong with GW2.

i am excited but terrified that it will be the bore fest that the first one was after playing a month. I get lost in the drabble trying to figure out what is so different between this one and the first. When I see statements like "I think the game is taking a very bold direction and is adding a lot of attractive features" I get confused. It looks new, pretty and all but i dont understand the difference from the first one.

I'm sure a lot of people will be interested at first, but I doubt this game will have lasting power on hardcore players. They will most likely drop off for other games like Tera/Rift/SWTOR. But i'm sure Areanet really only cares about box sales as its not sub based.

Not only did that help soooooooooo much, it is indicative of paying attention to a bunch of BS that leads me back to my OP. Thank you. I can see the WoW kiddies migrating to GW2

Unfortunately, that's every  game on the market, GW2 probably won't be any different than any other game in that regard, at least at first.  That said, I don't notice much of that in GW, although I think I just tune most of it out and ignore it.

I can do the same with GW2.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more

I'm very interested in GW2's PVP aspect. As I think it's something that could be truly competitve, might even get a solid tournament scene etc assuming the game does well.

As for the PVE wich I also enjoy in my MMO's, I just think it looks too easy tbh. PVE is only fun when there's a challenge and need for coordination within the group. I don't know how well GW1 did this but just looking at gameplay vids so far, I'd say it's a bit of a lackluster and generally a very easygoing aspect of the game, which is a shame and I'm hoping someone can prove me otherwise unless the devs does it with some more indepth video of their PVE combat.

It's PvP driven, which means that - unfortunately - whining and screaming children are the primary target audience.  This isn't me bashing PvPers btw, just experience from every single PvP-focused game with the exception of EVE, which really is an exception for every MMO discussion in some way.

I'm a hardcore PvE-er, but no longer a raider.  There's a difference as the latter is concerned only with grinding the same content over and over for a drop, with the biggest challenge being a logistical one, rather than a tactical one.  It sounds as if this type of gameplay is not only discouraged but also actively avoided in development.  Sounds perfect.  I've read that the end-game, five-man content is intended to be very difficult and will require a lot more teamwork than the open world stuff, so there's a challenge without having to herd a bunch of idiots into the instance entrance and have them all focus on the same task for the next two hours.  Ok, that is a challenge, but one that's boring as hell unless you're a masochist.

Nothing has really been confirmed for end-game yet, so everything is speculation.  But if the encounter with the Shatterer, an open-world, mid-range under-boss is any indication, it looks like true dungeon bosses may be spectacular and offer a really great PvE experience.  I *think* I also read somewhere that dungeons would be dynamic so there's no way of putting together "the optimal group" for any encounter as it will change with each iteration.  Developing tactics on the fly tactics is a step forward when compared to other games' end-game content.  Please cite the source if anyone else has come across it.

I'm expecting there will be plenty of content to keep us PvE-types busy, without having to rely on traditional raid-style grindfests.

I will definitely play this game. I am hoping that this will be the first MMOrpg for me that I will be dedicated to for over year in comparison with the rest.

    • To the individuals that said "I doubt it will last", their statements are ignorant; GW last for 5 years and still is there.

    • Arenanet has proved that they actually provide with weekly/monthly updates + expansions [3 in two years if I am correct].

    • Its PVP oriented; just like GW1 i.e

    • The MMO[rpg] market will be extremely competitive in 2011 and onwards.

    • Hence, I am 100 percent sure that ArenaNet will excel in that competition and in no way back down from it.

    • The only way for ArenaNet to fail with this one is IF the NCsoftNA team take over the game which wont happen.

    Also I am glad that statements such as;

"I guess GW really isn't a game for anyone who wants an RPG. It's just a PVP game. I never got into PVP because I always got my butt handed to me and then insulted about how I'd lost. That's not fun either. I've got better things to do, better games to play"

    and

"i bought the game and was expecting a WoW like experience what i got instead was diablo 1 on tranqulisers"

    wont be there anymore.

    • - The only minus for me would be adaptability; it might take me a while but I will get through it.

If you're basing your idea of PvE difficulty on the demo vids that have been popping up, keep in mind that the demos were declawed to some extent to make it easier for a complete neophtye to have a seat at the station and *see* as much as possible before their 40 minutes was up.  They wanted people to be able to roll through content quickly to get the most out of the experience.  It's the same reason that certain aspects of the game were removed such as in-depth character creation.  Spending 20 minutes building your character would severely reduce the amount of the game world you would be able to see with the time limit.

The skill demo vids also used an OP character to show off how the skills worked.  The time to start worrying about this is when vids start coming out of the beta, showing overly easy fights.  If they start coming out.

Ever PvEd Guildwars 1 in hardmode? That was a complete nightmare compared to anything besides the worst raiding instances. The demo were made a lot easier so the players could see more of the game, ANET are not to keen on easy PvE and the system with no dedicated healer or tank will add to it.

Also we seen no dungeons whatsoever yet, just simplified open world PvE so don't estimate the difficulty of the game just on that.

I would say that the graphics is pretty average but with great art and good effects.

From the jump comment I guess you are either a GW1 player like me or pretty easily impressed. :)

But the game do have many features, 2011 will be the MMO year and not just because of GW2 but many other interesting games too. I plan to play a lot.

Go do your homework kid. It's not that hard to go to their official site and find the faq and design manifesto. Here let me help you a bit since it seems you're having difficulties.

If you still can't understand the differences then I can't help you and I doubt anyone else can.
