Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures: One Week = One Million Registered Users

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment have announced that over a million users have registered to play the family-friendly Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures. As a 'thanks for playing' reward, all players are being given a Golden Mouse Droid pet.

"We are thrilled to have hit the one million player mark in Clone Wars Adventures so quickly and look forward to seeing the player community continue to grow," said John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment. "Combining the technology, design infrastructure, and lessons learned from Free Realms™ with the amazing Clone Wars brand, we knew we could make a great game, and we're happy to see that fans of all ages are enjoying the content as much as we enjoyed creating it."

Sign up to play Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures here.

Everyone who's ever signed up for a SOE game... check your account.  SOE has been known to 'borrow' inactive accounts to inflate their numbers.

2 days ago I checked mine and found out I'm playing EQ2X and FreeRealms.

Seriously, this game is terrible. Its not even a game.. its like a college student's late-night project. It really is the worst star wars game i've played since Super Bombad Racing.

And you can't play the "its for kids  not for you" card, because so is Free Realms, but Free Realms is 100x better made than this clone wars thing.

That's cool, they should stick to what they do best because it's crystal fuggin clear they can't run a proper mmo.

1 million for a game rarely (if at all) advertised, based on a branching-off of a declining franchise? I don't buy these numbers.

Hey, they game might not cater to... most people on this site, but I harbor no ill will towards them.  If this game does well, good for them.  Its not for me, but no reason to tear them down.

Most people probably did what I did. Downloaded the game, tried it. Then deleted it.

The game was terrible.  It's pretty much a virtual chatroom. I downloaded in beta though, but after like 30 minutes I logged out and /unistalled.

Not surprised. Its Star Wars, and its free. Why WOULDNT they get a bunch of people to at least TRY it? Unfortunately it has not staying power, so the amount of people that try it doesnt mean much.

FTP sub numbers are a joke and should never be talked about with any degree of seriousness.

How many people are spending money and how much are they spending?  What is their monetization rate?

    Nothing else matters.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Ok so 1 million registered equals to what when we're talking active paying subs? 10k?

Much hate do I sense in you. Mmm... hate leads to the dark side.

Many of the same people who made FreeRealms made Clone Wars. The target design of the game is just differant, this is a virtual world lobby to socialize and play minigames rather then a open world to explore and run around in. Face it, kids just want variety and instant access to fun, not grinding days to unlock content like adults do. Kids are more driven by desires and impulses, so these sort of game models like club penguin and wizard 101 cater to those gamers, not us.

Soe made the same bullshit claims with free realms at the rate of about 1 million new accounts per month.

I fully expect to see a new milestone press release from soe about every 3-4 weeks claiming another million players have signed up for accounts or whatever ambigious terminology they want to use.

Despite all of these millions of people signing up for their games I suspect they will have another round of layoffs in about 6 months time.

All of these free to play account claims are worthless.

More "registered users" bullshit. From now on, any company that uses the "registered users" spiel rather than actual players should be immediately shunned, humiliated, and then burned to the ground. Not specifically in that order.

-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.-

Exactly what it is, a place for people that aren't serious about gaming, but want a place to feel like they are hanging out and chatting with people.    I.E. Basically Virtual Chatroom with a few extra added goodies, I guess.

I don't know if I'd say Star Wars is a declining franchise, it's still probably the biggest ip in the world they just have a habit of making products that aren't well recieved.  And one million users is not a stretch for a game that costs absolutely nothing to try based on the franchise you assume is somehow in decline not a far stretch at all.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

    I'm an adult.

I liked free realms for it's mini games.

I've played this game a few late nights while I stayed awake (quite bored) I can tell you this. I've gotten my 5.95 out of the game and my little brother loves it too (enough where I hooked him up with my account to play).

Really, it's nothing ground breaking but the games are quite fun. I really like the on rails star fox shooting game. Hell a mmo that came out playing the exact same I'd most likely p2p that as well.

All in all I'm no SoE fan and I started this quest to see what if anything was wrong with the game. So far it's fun, it's different, and requires little work to play. Something casual gamers (the facebook aps crowd) and kids will love.

     Hey..!

when my daughter was about 6, i had the week off, and we played Bombad for hours and hours... almost every day. It was very cold and snowy out that whole week, and we had a blast... I think we stopped playing  about the time she could whoop me almost as much as i could her  :p

Dang... they probably counted me. I played in the beta... for 15 minutes.

1 Week=1 Million Users=(at best) 1 penny per day in revenue. Not impressed.

WoW does the same thing with their numbers.

Your assuption is not entirely true. On my SOE account I only have EQ2X flagged as active, and that's true since I played it for only 3 days (and then figured EQ2 would be cheaper to subscribe to in the long run). There's no FreeRealms (thank God) or SW Clone Wars on my account.

I think we have this conversation for every mmo. We're angry people who desparetly want an MMO to entertain us and will bite the heads off any developer who dosn't give us what WE want! Rawr! (I'm in that boat, but I try and be objective and keep my nerd-rage to a minimum.)
