Well, we've heard most of those complaints a hundred times before, but the terminology complaint is a relatively new one. It seems, not only does a game have to play like the ones you're already used to, but the content within that game has to be referred to by the same labels as well, in order for something not to be a design failure.
I don't know, user friendliness is all well and good, but I like to think the point of playing games is that you apply yourself developing something new.
That one made me laugh as well. It amazes me how far people are stretching to declare this game a failure.
I dont think it has much to do with being a failure...sure...there are some rabid folks who are legit just trolling to try and make the game look bad.
However, you do also have to realize there are some like myself who are currently playing, but not happy with certain things, while we dont think the game is a "failure" so to speak, we arent happy with the way it is in its current form.
ATM Im just a disgruntled player hoping to get my opinion out there so they can change some things.
I guess it just boils down to that I don't see enough problems to be disgruntled over. Well except for the complete lack of a Direct pay option. I mean seriously I don't want to buy some stupid Crysta just to pay for game time.

We got plenty of room over here in our angry mob sir.

It's all over the place and forums. I have a hard time myself to pick my favourite when there are so many.
The only thing SE can do now to redeem themselves in the MMO market would be to put the game back into development (WHERE IT BELONGS), and let everyone play it for FREE during this time. Its bad enough that they are taking people's money for a product that they know is not complete. Kinda similar to the $40 I paid on GT prologue so they could continue development.
And everyone needs to stop crying about how people just dont like this because its "hard" or its not a "wow clone". The game sucks. Poor hardware, and poor features. There is a reason why WOW, and EQ did so well, and even EQ2 has made it so far. Its great to try to go against the mold, but not at the expense of utter crap.
The game is very Old-School, which is one of the reasons I like it.
Umm.. no. This game isn't old school. For starters, they have quests that are on a daily time limit. Groups aren't even enforced in the early levels (I'm not even sure if you have to group at all). Death penality is nothing like the ones in older MMORPGs. Lastly, older MMORPGs focused solely on playing your role in the advancement of levels. FFXIV is dedicated to wasting your time as much as possible. There is absolutely no challenge within the game except grind. I recall in older MMORPGs that it was quite easy to get whiped by a single add. Plus in old school times it was near impossible to level up a character like a rogue or scout because of them being unneeded in groups (no utility except damage.. we don't like characters to lack support).
You don't know what you're talking about. This game is not complete. Period.

Hmm, drat, it seems server population is up from roughly 2000 to nearly 2500 this evening. The game really needs to start sucking worse or I'm not going to get any privacy at all.
No, I really can't take the complaint threads all that seriously when I bear this in mind. Yes, no game is for everyone, but it seems Final Fantasy XIV is doing quite well, regardless of folk who can't get over their first impression of how different, laggy, or generally user-unfriendly it is.
So this apparent angry mob with torches and pitchworks being referred to here... well, I suppose they're free to hold their rallys, after all, it's in the constitution... but I can think of better uses for their time. Did you guys hear LOTRO went free to play? I bet you'd like it, it's pretty solid, and addresses most of your complaints nicely.

Exactly this game is not "old school" in the least bit. If I saw people complaining about 4 hour corpse runs or standing around LFG to do the first quest then I might believe it's a hard game. As it stands this game is just not finished. Another dev team took a crap in a box and spoon fed it to the MMO community using the IP as bait.
So wait? You didn't buy the game and you are making this post? You just played the beta? ......which is, well beta and is when they are working out the bugs...
So, you don't have the game and are giving a review?
It is quite simple why SE released the game a year early. They don't care about the western market. Their bread and butter is the Eastern market who will tolerate playing an unfinished game. Eastrn players have much more patience & maturity than western players, they don't need constant excitement, atttention and babbysitting like Western players and they can see the long term potential in a game like FF14. Yes it is a shame that SE cares little about us and that they released the game in such a poor state. But unlike most MMO's where if you fail at release your game is done, this will only hurt them in the West. A market they have never cared about. If you can't tolerate the game now come back in a year or two after your done with all the new games such as Rift, SWTOR, GW2 and so on. Unlike most new MMOs FF14 has a solid future and will develop into a very good game.

You probably got my wrong.
I’m up to new things in MMO, like everyone else. But if it’s really new feature. For sample, WarHammer online introduced “Public Quests”. This was a new feature for most of players. But they didn’t called it by some “abrakadabrish” world. In FF14, mentioned above “guildleve” is exactly simple and ordinary quest. But has a name that sound like “guild level”.
About “innovative features”. Absence of well designed interface and terrible performance are not “innovative”. They just plain bad. Always. Does not matter who did that, if it was well known game development company.
Like some people refer to this game as “old school game”. Yes, some good MMOs were harder to play. But mostly not due to lags or primitive interface, witch was fixed later.
There were:
1. more group oriented (you die solo a lot)
2. with serious death penalty (you run naked to find your body and so on).
3. had more variety of complicated classes. So making an effective group was a harder task.
In modern games all those things are much simplified. Main goal of that – to make game playable by casuals. Majority of games getting rid of CC(Crowd Control classes or abilities) – because it’s a feature that a casual newbie can not understand. “WTF why I can’t AOE or hit any mob I like, when I play in group?!?!?” And so on…

This one made me laugh. I remember the first few days / weeks of CO launch. Dozens of instances of some zones were popped...everything was crowded. Fast forward to today...just the bare minimum of 2 instanced zones popped...

So much for that theory...
Dozens of instances at 25 - 50 people per instance isn't all that much. But nice try.
Bad example mate...SE maybe is turning towards eastern market is because there is little to none democracy. They buy what they get, they are so indoctrinated that they won't see the difference between human shit and dog shit...This is the thruth! Those from west tend to watch closely when they buy something because they value quality per price and have a open market with a huge variety of products to choose from. This is business and the same rules aplies here also...unfinished product means lower quality and so low price. Also, SE may be well accused for false advertising and it's severly punished by western countries where eastern countries barely have a law for it.
