The same thing I say in every one of these weekly threads.
Firefly.
Seriously ?
Fireflys strong point had been the gorgeous scripts, not the impressing setting. The world itself is quite boring - americans and chinese on a couple planets orbiting a couple stars. Everything looks like the wild west - except they have star ships and a corrupt central government.
I have no clue how they could make a MMORPG out of this. One I would even think about for a second if I would play it, anyway.
But well, your imagination might be stronger than mine.
The chronicles of narnia for me. Theres so much possibility there its untrue.
So many options for classes and races from animals to dwarfs, centaurs, fawns, humans etc.
And don't forgot, it has one of the best fantasy storys ever told thus, the storyline would be awesome. The setting could be unique also as it could be based in the real world and Narnia also.
This might be in the works, but none the less. Elder Scrolls Online, though only if in making the game an MMO it loses nothing from what it would be as a single player game... would be really hard to get this right but I could see myself really getting into this. Course it would be sandbox and full loot pvp with combat like the single player games.
So my answer I guess is anElder Scrolls version of Darkfall but with a skill cap and just done better as a whole.
I disagree.
Never clone an existing game if its a MMO.
Nobody bothers to play the clone.
Either they like the original, then they keep playing the original.
Or they dont, but then they dont care about your clone, either.
Elder Scrolls as a MMORPG is a nobrainer, though. Just give it a reasonably balanced rulesystem for once. Where you cant just max ever skill in existence, but have to make choices and specialize your character, if you want maximum power in a field.
Which is exactly what was missing in Darkfall as well, by the way.
So yeah, you could still make a fighter/thief/mage, but this time you wont be as good in any of these fields than a specialist for said field. So your F/T/M would actually have to combine abilities from different areas to stand a chance in combat against any of these specialists.
And you should also get more options. Like: you could specialize into music magic and be a Bard. Or you could specialize into aura magic and be a Paladin. Or undergo a special transformation, be resistant to magic, able to perform special stunts, and able to use your fists as full weapons, but no longer able to use weapons or armor, and be a monk.
Heck, there is a plethora of cool worlds to make MMOs from, but somehow only the dumb worlds get made, like Champions, Warhammer or Conan., about which I care not at all. (Just my taste.)

I just watched all three movies from the trilogy recently because they were on TV.
Mad Max/Road Warrior MMO.
Auto Assault had vehicular combat but it failed. Failed, IMO due to bad controls, it was all vehicle combat and nothing else, and the world was more Gamma World (cars were futuristic) than Road Warrior.
Fallen Earth essentially has no vehicle combat worth noting.
I'd love to see a game that lets you hop into a muscle car, drive others off the road and also let you get out and shoot people. And the setting has to be somewhat realistic without fancy futuristic equipment and weapons.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! It is interesting to see the ideas people have. I started this thread because I was thinking of a possible Firefly MMO, and sure enough, a few of you had expressed the same interest. It could work well, especially if you were not only restricted to doing jobs for others, but were able to hand jobs out to possibly better the planet/community you lived on. Maybe have a ship that your "guild" could operate out of, and the more you have in the guild, the bigger the ship is (not that a bigger ship is required to do certain jobs/missions/what have you).
A few other suggestions I was not to familiar with, so I needed to look them up. You are right, I think they would be great if they were developed. Megaman, Dune, Halo were a few examples that I would be interested in seeing now that they had been mentioned.
As the title says. I am curious to see what franchises everyone would like to see step up to the MMO plate these days. Include what aspects from your choices would work well in such an environment? Thank you in advance for your input.
I read someone's suggestion -- Blade Runner. Great story, good action. Could make for a fun MMO. I like it, I like it. But...does everyone who plays look like Harrison Ford???
In light of the secret world and being that Rangor is involved in one MMO. I could totally see a Longest journey dual world going on, Could have active portals that lead between Stark and Arcadia. Walking around those world fighting Azadi troops or fighting thugs in alley ways on stark.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
I think some interesting ones could be made from the Deus Ex and Legacy of Kain series with the right direction. Would garner my interest anyways.
I would love for a horror themed one. I suppose The Secret World may fit this bill but we'll see. I'm actually surprised there aren't more companies that have tried to go in this direction really myself. Not really a set ip far as that goes but god there are so many series and books out there to choose from it would be hard to pick just one.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Beavis & Butthead: Beavis & Butthead can be melee dps (burp & fart). Todd and Mr. Buzzcut would be tanks. Mr. Van Dreisen and Stuart would be casters. Daria would be a healer.

I would like to see a mmorpg based on the Rolemaster (by Iron Crown Enterprises (ICE)) and utlising their Shadow World game setting.

I would love to see a Dragon Age turned into a MMO. It has everything practically done already including a rich storyline.
Naruto would be fun also mass effect would be awsome

it's interesting to see that there are so many totally different ideas. I expected to see 1 or 2 Ip's mentioned but there are loads of different ones
Faerun based open world MMO
Traveller PnP universe
The German "The Dark Eye"
Arcanum of Steamwork and Magic Obscura
Shadowrun

I'd like to see a Babylon 5 MMO.
Or, one based on Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire story. On a side note, I believe HBO is doing a series on this one.
Or possibly one centering on the Cthulu mythos.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Song of Ice and Fire of George RR Martin
American McGee's Alice
Dune
Chronicles of Thomas Covenant of Stephen Donaldson
Otherland of Tad Williams
Malazan Chonicles of the Fallen of Steven Erikson (when done well, this could simply be awesome)
Hyperion of Dan Simmons

Firefly. I think a Space-Western would do great as an MMORPG.
Any franchise dealing with zombies... Left 4 Dead, 28 Days Later, or Dead Rising. I think a Zombie killer MMO would be cool.
An anime-themed MMO would be pretty awesome.
