Holy Crap....can we please STFU about "PRE-NGE" already.
It's gone, it happened (many many years ago) so get freekin' over it.
It happend four years ago, not 'many many'. You gotta be in the infamous "30 is old and 5 years ago was right after World War 2"-age
I'm actually 49 years old....maybe my life experience allows me to deal with life's 'little" things better than most.
Seriously though....people still crying about a game change that happened several years ago.
How pathetic.
The only pathetic thing here is troll posts like yours. Just to educate you, SWG had some very unique things about it that have not been seen in the MMO community since NGE. Nothing wrong with lamenting a play style that no longer exists anyplace in the MMO genre. It is a shame is so many of you never got the chance to experience it. The game actually had depth to it that none of these modern MMO's come close to matching.

If you're so good at getting over "little" things, then you should have just ignored the people lamenting SWG Pre-NGE. Apparently you're not as good as you claim.

I'd agree. I''ll be honest though, most games have something that is complex. EVE is the king of subtle complexity. Note that EVE is literally as complex as you want it to be. By using some of the great tools that exist for EVE players, the complexity is relatively benign. However, should you delve deeply into EVE and start to truly min-max the game, you may be over your head without some serious higher education, to the order of PhD in economics, sociology, group dynamics or organizational development, mathmatics, etc.
without a doubt this is one list that my beloved eve belongs at the top
you know what, though? i would have added eq1. simply because the learning curve in that game meant learning a whole new archetype of game from scratch.
at least in ff11, people could reference their experiences in EQ.

Having looked at the graph in question, I can't see any identifying marks. I do know that its been around for several years now. How one would track down who ever originally created it, I'm not certain. Its been posted by lord only knows how many people on many, many forums.
Darkfall online is only hard becouse the UI/control system seem to have been designed 15 years ago and not been work on since.
Also old players and the game itself dont really let new players learn the game.
Bad made game is not the same as hardcore game.
I'll agree that the UI is bad, but a vocal portion of the community actually likes the UI the way it is. In fact, I complained about the inventory system and was granted with a response of, "it's more realistic." That's lol worthy when you think of how "unrealistic" carrying a broadsword, two pairs of leather leggings, a breastplate, and five planks of wood actually is.
That said, I never thought Darkfall was a bad game. It just needs a bit more sand in its box, and the skill system (where you are expected to master everything) is fundamentally broken. I never thought the game was all that difficult to learn though. It's actually far more simplistic than almost any other MMORPG that I can think of which calls itself a sandbox game.
I was excited when I read the topic. I slowly scrolled down from number 5 to number 1. I honestly thought AO was going to take number 1. AO was my first mmorpg. I've played several mmo's after...including EVE. AO hands down needed to be listed. One post mentioned something about a freakin spreadsheet to choose which implants to use and what to stack what in order to get the stats you want. That was kinda how you had to plan the progression. Several programs were written by fans to help out with this. That game had so much. I'd drop all my games in a heart beat if they came out with an AO'2 or something.
Disappointed in the round-up. AO for number 1, the steepest learning curve. EVE a real close second.
Were this a boredom curve list, then FFXI would deserve to be on it.
Having seen this graphic change over and over and over in its years of being handed down on the internet, I remember the days when Anarchy Online occupied the slot that EVE did, and when EVE arrived, it was bumped down to where POTBS is.
When choosing a race can result in your character being less successful... you know you're on Rubi-Ka.
There are non-subtle differences between a Nanomage Enforcer and an Atrox Enforcer. A player that understands the system knows how to overcome much of the differences, but one can easily gimp a character in AO, thanks to the improvement points system. What's green (cheap) to an Atrox can be deep blue (bloody expensive!) to a nanomage, and make all the difference in what and how much one can improve (talk about IP Starvation)!
This post made me laugh. So true, so true!
I like the possibilty of gimping a character in some ways. Some of my favourite MMO memories are of gimped characters I made. If you learn to 'suffer' through the game, they can generate some incredible experiences. I put suffer in quotes because it was still so fun.
I also am one that says Anarchy Online should be next up to there alongside to Eve..
Though, nowadays the graph would be different Eve has come a long way to upgrading the Tutorial. Back when i first started in Exodus...i woiuldn't even call it a tutorial...lol
Also think Anarchy online should have made the list. Maybe not first place but second after EVE for sure. EVE has a larger amount of info needed to be absorbed AO needed more math especially for twinking

Wut? The UI is fine for a first person perspective if you give it enough time to get used to it, i.e. not ragequit in 3 days.
Old players do not let new players learn the game? Whilst the forums are full of epeen fighting the game has one of the better communities i've experienced. Yes you will get killed (it is a FFA full loot game afterall) but I for one was constantly getting help from people when I started the game, from advice to items to gold.

You missed Ultima online there.

Others may have said this, but shouldn't the axes on the graph be reversed?
I know it's an odd comment, but just caught my attention. :P

If I were to make my own list, I would probably say:
5. Pirates of the Burning Sea
4. Saga of Ryzom
3. Pre-NGE SWG
2. Anarchy Online
1. EVE

I must agree with many other here AO should have made the top 5 easy.
lol, for that post I think you should get 5 stars, right now.
