Im guessing people that played beta and CE can really say if they don't like the game or not but i have yet to play it.
To be honest the audience for MMOs has changed i think for the worse, everywhere i see people only care about endgame content and gear i guess. I started playing UO: the second age and i was hooked to MMOs.
I only cared about exploring and finding new things in the world by myself i never was an awesome player, i didn't pvp but exploring and meeting people that were just excited to play their own pace was what i enjoyed.
so i ask, are the people saying this is a bad game are just the new school of MMO players who are just worried about stats and blowing through the leveling process the easiest way possible to have a capped char? or is this game really just bad?

I played UO and EQ a lot back in the day and I do not like this game.
So no, it's not just new gamers.
I also started at UO and EQ1. I played FFXI for a long time too.
Personally, the game is strangely silent and I feel I won't make friends on there. It also lacks a distinct FF flavor the previous mmo had. In no way I will say the game is bad, but when I log on, I can't make myself stay overly long, I do a few leves, grind a bit then log off, no one to talk to.
I play mmo for the massively multiplayer online to make friends. In FFXIV I don't have the feeling I will make any.
Forget about endgame content, SE doesn't believe in low or midgame content other than leveling.
I also don't care about being top level asap, as it took me 8 months to level my first class in FFXI, so i understand the exploration aspect. Unfortunately that aspect loses it's luster quite quickly here.
And yet you spend your whole day here? when i dislike a game i have no reason to post on the forums and move on to something i enjoy. I don't understand when people say 'i dislike this game' over and over again and yet for some reason refuse to move on. I will never get this mentality.
There are so many games i dislike on this site but you will never see me posting there.

I agree. You try to strike up a conversation or ask a question and you get no response. Nobody is talking. I guess everyone is in their own lil linkshells or whatever.
I did answer a guys question today because I knew the answer. I noticed that he was being ignored once again by the community, so I decided to speak up and help out. Especially since it was an easy question to answer. One that I am sure almost everyone around could have answered.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
I'm really just posting on MMORPG.com and FFXIV is a hot topic. I broke my leg. I like burning my time like this.
What I'll never understand is why you care.
For myself and a lot of my friends it's because we loved FFXI so much and see SE going backwards with XIV. We want the game to succeed and get better but nothing will get fixed if we don't gibe feedback. There's nothing wrong with being passionate about something we care about.
Though I'm no UO or EQ player, I am an old-school pen-n-paper RPGer, so I don't give sh!t about end-game - even better, where end-game is the destination, I tend to skip those games... As old-school RPGer to me an MMO is all abut the road you take, character development, explore, meet, interact and stuff like that. Not the (mostly) quick rush to the level cap in 3 months, and then go on the treadmill of endless, boring and mind-numbing raids that you do over and over again, waiting for new "content" to be added, which is nothing more than an other treadmill of new raids...
I did play in the CB, and I did have problems with the game. Not the game itself as it is, but the interface. As many said before, I'll repeat it again... The Final Fantasy series are made with a console in mind, not with mouse and keyboard. Because of this, I bought a PS2 controller for my computer to play FFXIV, but due to personal problems I had to drop out of CB prematurely, and I didn't pre-order because of those same problems (I did order the game by now).
With that, Final Fantasy is not a game to pick up easily (see this weeks LIST), and that's mainly because of the old-school RPG feeling it gives. because of this, regular players miss the glowing ! and ?, recipes for crafting and stuff like that, which by now we've all grown accustomed to. Also (and that's why I skipped FFXI), the FF MMO's are very party oriented, something that is pretty non-western, aside from the raiding treadmill. Aion tried to break this tradition by making certain area's forced to party, but even for the western version of the game, it somewhat failed to do so (mostly players picked up a high level to rush through that part). In FFXI I know you could get a high level in party, but he'd be scaled down to meet your level (good system IMO), but because I started too late, I had to skip (too few ppl wanting to scale down from 60+ to around 10-15 and travel all the way back)
So yes, in certain ways, FFXI and FFXIV are "bad" games if you hold them to the standards set by western MMO's. On the other hand, I think FFXI and FFXIV are good MMO's, since they do bring the MMO in MMORPG on an early level.
A site like MMORPG.com is meant for people who like MMOs to come together and talk about them. If someone creates a thread asking what people think about a game, people who didn't like the game have the same right to state what they felt along with people who like it. Thats what these forums are for - general input.
Each games sub forum is just there to keep related discussions neat and all in one place.
Just because you don't feel the need to talk about games you don't like doesn't mean others shouldn't either. If they did, then people asking opinions about a game would get a very one-sided perspective.
As for the OP:
I have been around since the early days of UO and have played EQ, AC, AO, etc. It's not just new players who don't like aspects of the game. For myself its the controls, pacing and tedious menu systems as well as the feeling that PC players are more of a second class citizen when it comes to over all game design.

2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
I was in a linkshell before I moved server, and they never talked. I know some on the bigger server and linkshells say their chat box is a wall of green text, but not everyone is that lucky and since no one talk, those that are trying to enjoy the game and don't get their questions answered end up leaving.
I read FFXIV fan forums, and talks of weeding out the idiots and all is that talk of a "wonderful community"?
I don't. Just wondering why would you hang out on forums of game you dislike. Unless you want the game to improve which is not your intention either since you are just burning your time here.
Just a curious question.

I don't consider it a bad game! Many will not like the fact that it's easier with a controller - What's finally ending it for me is the additional costs! I love alts and experiencing the game from different angles...but not at the cost of $3.00 per alt per month
Just read this, it gives a good idea of the games problems, Ignore the mental cases that don't seem to want an AH for some stupid reason.

"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

Why would you want to have an alt? unless you need a mule. Everything can be done on one character.

You get a lot of those elitist types in other games too, so it's not just FFXIV. Thing is, when you have more and more people being negative about a game or speaking their opinion about things, you will get a more vocal 'idiots need to go' or 'go back to WoW' crowd.
I have gone through a few of the FFXIV fansites since beta and have seen people turn on others who went from liking the game to not being pleased with it.
But right now the chat in game is pretty quiet mostly due to people either talking in linkshells or groups, or to the fact that chat is limited to areas. Over time chat should pick up a bit more.

I won't be playing this game, so I have no invested interest in seeing it improve. I also have no reason to want to see it fail (which seems to be what you are implying). I didn't buy the game. I was in open beta and used a buddy key.
I have opinions about the game. This is a forum to express opinions. It's not really all that complicated.
I think that along your same line of questioning you should ask yourself two questions:
Why do you post about a game you like?
Why do you care if someone posts something that you don't like?
You like exploring and adventure?
You will hate this game.
There are more than enough posts to confirm this. Read the counter-arguments to be convinced, they are hilarious.
"I'm not cheap I'm incredibly subconsciously financially optimized"
"The worst part of censorship is ------------------"
I am here because i actually want it to improve? i answer questions and help new players with their queries whenever i can? i am not here just to burn my time. I also post on FFXIV core on regular basis to see if someone need to clear some queries about the game and try to correct mis informed posts. So that is my reason for posting. satisfied?
And for the second question i hate to repeat myself. Scroll up and read again. When i dislike something i usually give my opinion once or twice and then move on. So i find it a little strange to hang up on something i dislike or have no interest in.

On the contrary, the game world is huge, SE purposely made it easy to travel between the main three towns so you dont even have to level up to see a distinct change in atmosphere. I got a level 1 Local Leve that had me travel three camps away.
If anything, anyone who enjoys exploring and adventuring I think would like this game more.
There are also tons of caves and such not marked on the map. Thats actually one of my favorite things to do is go exploring in an unmarked cave when I find it, and there are a lot of them.
I agree. In LL yesterday i discovered 2 very interesting buildings and NPC. I was too far away in middle of nowhere. I got aggro and died in one shot by the mob but it was worth it. Also i discovered some kind of huge platform, maybe something interesting in future. I love running around as maps are huge.

Obviously I have an interest in it. I played in beta and got a buddy key.
I also think that the people that criticize the game (like me) do more to help the game than people that praise the game constantly (like you). Not that there isn't an argument that neither of us is having any effect. But you did list wanting it to improve as one of the reasons you post.
I also post often in religious/political forums while I post here. So, I sit here with an itchy leg keeping my brain occupied until I can walk around more easily.
All I can say is FFXIV is one of those games you either like or don't like. I pre-ordered the SE because I wanted the goggles rather then the Onion Helm that came with the CE so I have to wait till tomorrow to play, but what little I did manage to play in the Beta I did enjoy. No it's not an easy game to figure out, but neither is it rocket science. One big gripe people have (other then the no AH) is the lack of equipment vendors which causes a more player driven economy. I'm not really sure how I feel about that, but I suppose it all depends on the community.
Which seems to be another thing people complain about, or the lack there of. I think after the 30th it'll get better though because then the game will be officially released and people who didn't pre-order the CE will be able to start playing as well as those that missed being able to pre-order. I'll admit I didn't really make it that far into the game because it was difficult to play with the equipment I had at the time, but now I have better equipment and should be able to play it just fine on near max settings.
I suppose what I'm trying to get at is you should try to get a buddy key, or maybe after tomorrow they'll start giving out trial keys, and try the game yourself.
I apologize for my brevity, but I like this game very much. There are a few issues that I am sure will be addressed at some point. But overall, I am happy with it and feel positive about the future of the game. However, I do understand why some may not like it.
I have also just built a new PC that makes them game even more enjoyable.
What fan site is this? Yea, I imagine something is going on , this is one of the most unhelpful communities I have ever witnessed. Just feels kind of unwelcoming to be honest. Though, I don't have a problem looking something up myself, but I do like to help others if I can.

Nice assumption there but its alright. Your leg is itchy and so are you. I don't want to indulge you, unforutanetly i don't have unilimited time to burn. looks like i hit a nerve.
Now excuse me so that i can get back to discussing game again.
