A game that has crafting as a major component....has no auction house or broker services? O.o So is this like the typical Asian style game where you have to set up a "fruit stand," so to speak, in town and just sit there and try to sell things, or what?
That seems utterly impractical and archaic. I'm sorry.
Yes this game has no AH but this decision was based on past experince of FF mmo. Also, AH will be implemented just not immediately after release. SE is giving us a search function in a week or two. For now you can use retainers to sell stuff in market wards or you can paddle your own ware.
Retainers work fine for me. i sell everything i put in there.
Can you just leave the "retainers" to sit....or do you have to babysit them? I don't really know what a retainer is....
As a big fan of crafting, this game initially appealed to me because of the crafting, but....tbh....I don't think I'll be playing it, but I am still a bit curious as to how they're handling that type of game play.
Most of my Linkshell is focused on crafting and can make most craftable items between us..... For some reason no one is buying gear. I guess they like running around in starter gear?
Also if you find a retainer or player that has items you might need remember their name.

Retainers can be setup in market wards. Its like a shop and you don't have babysit them. Its there even when you go offline. In a week or two we will get a search function for market wards to find the materials we need. Once you find what you looking for, select the appropriate section of market ward and teleport there for purchase.

Its only been 1 day since the game started and people are still trying to figure out how the game works. 8 days if your a CE Buyer. Give it time :P
Some people dont even know higher level equipment exists yet Lawlz... Not to mention its quite easy to get to level 10 with level 1 equips. Most people need to get out of the straight up level grind and buy next equips at NPC mentality of MMOs. Can't wait for armor balance, level balance, retainer classification, and for people to figure out the proper stats/way for crafting.

As with many things concerning SE, Give it time~
Yes, they will no doubt proceed in much the same fashion as they did with XII. Which is why I didn't play it after the first month. I'm not interested in a game that becomes another job. I play games for entertainment and distraction from everything else I do. Its a hobby, not an obsession as it is with some people.
The attitude that SE has may be tolerated by their player base(hardly surprising considering where much of that is), but I'm not interested in contributing to the profits of companies with that attitude. To each their own.

For someone who obviously does not like this game, or its predecessor, or its developer, you spend a hell of a lot of time trolling its forums

Actually, I quite enjoyed the Final Fantasy series. But that was before SE made their various mistakes. I've noticed that you tend to throw the word "trolling" around at anyone who doesn't worship SE. Its too bad that they have made some of the decisions that they have, or XIV would be a much better game. But thats the nature of this form of entertainment. To each their own <shrug>
I've noticed that you tend to throw the word "trolling" around at anyone who doesn't worship SE.
lol yeah ok. I very very rarely use the word trolling, just take a look at my post list lol
I was just pointing out my observations on your behaviour which I find a bit strange. There are many games that I think are stupid/crappy/worthless etc but I don't waste posting in or even reading their forums. I don't understand why someone would.
Looking this stuff up online, not being able to ALT + TAB from the game is stupid.
I SO agree with that.
Objection!
You can alt-tab the game just fine, you just need to be willing to play the game windowed.
I don't know if this has changed since OB, but in windowed mode you couldn't leave the window out of focus for too long (5 or 10 minutes), or else you experienced a DX crash. So much for taking the time to browse websites while prep'ing coffee. : )
I had that happen once or twice in open beta, but not in release, so perhaps it was solved.
I have a counter objection ... running FF in windowed mode disbales crossfire and SLI ... so your objection is moot!
Ok, well here is how this game is really working right now, not how most feel it is. Behind the scenes for beginners.
Good piece of information/advice. Thanks.
So if I'm reading this correctly you can choose to be a pure adventurer type and leave the crafting to someone else.
You can sure if thats yoru thing, one of my linkshells is pretty much just that. But I will warn you, they make and spend tons of cash to be that way. Your repair costs are going to hit you hard fast, especially if you dont pick up some crafter friends to help your out there. And those repair costs from the NPC will go up even faster the better your gear gets.
But yeah sure, if all you want to do is adventure, you can join a nice hardcore linkshell and hit the levequests and dungeons when your able. Hell I'm all for it, another customer for me, and more money in mah pocket. Hardcore adventurer only people spend good.
"Well come on over, check out my wares! You like shiney ? Oh that looks GREAT on you, you should buy it. Why sure you can afford it, besides nobody else has one of those yet, you will be the first! *wink wink*"
Thanks for feedback.
You mention I can go fullout adventurer but in the same line you also mention hardcore .. does this mean you can't survive as a casual adventurer player? Reason I'm asking is I would only be able to play a couple of sessions during the weekends and I would like to dedicate that time to the thing I love most ... adventuring.
Also would these adventuring sessions earn me enough cash to survive.

Nope, your right, but the answer is still yes. You can go straight adventurer either dedicated hardcore or casual. The fuel that feeds the hardcore will not be as present on you is all. And by that I mean the need to continue the cycle. A hardcore adventurer will most likely not have the personal crafting to repair thier own gear or make it, so they will have to buy it and pay to have it repaired. They will go out, make a lot of cash from levequests and/or selling every drop they get to buy the best gear they can and continue to advance. But as they do this, thier repair costs will go up as the gear level does, so they are forced to go out and earn even more money to pay for it all. And the cycle continues, the more they push to advance, the more they are forced to push to pay for thier advancement.
However, as a more casual player, your needs will not (hopefully not) push past your available resources as fast. You may even dabble in crafting a little to facilitate your own repairs. Since you won't be pushing your leveling as fast as a harcore player, you will have plenty more time to advence your level and procure gear thats more relevant to your actual hunting needs. You wont need gear thats higher level than you to push the envelope and progress fast. Not only that, when you do need gear upgrades the crafters/market should have more available in your range at cheaper prices.
You can still be just an adventurer, but your needs wont be as severe as the hardcore players will be. You will still most likely gain a bulk of your cash through levelquests and selling drops, and still use that cash to buy your gear and pay for repairs, but not to the same extreme. The thing to remember is your gil needs are directly preportional to your gear needs. If you can survive on that level 9 weapon until your level 17, then your repair costs for that duration will be much lower than someone who has to have that level 17 weapon at level 12.
How you adventure, and what you do while your adventuring, will make a big difference in how much gil you need to make to sustain yourself. If you are willing to spend some time in your adventuring to do some gathering along the way, it will help tremendously on covering your costs. Both a combat adventurer and a dedicated crafter have thier own gil needs. While you may need gil to buy gear and get repairs, the crafter will need his to buy shards and resources you are getting they are not. Crafters dont produce shards they consume them, Adventurers dont consume shards they produce them. The crafter supplies the gear which they sell to get the gil to buy the shards they need to make the gear to..... you get the idea. Both sides will eventually need the other to survive, the only true independant will be the jack of all trades and master of none, as they will be able to sustain all thier own needs without the need for a constant supply of gil. The trade off for that is a much slower overall progression than the dedicated class players.
