Dang. You guys are lucky to have played GW. I feel sad. But GW just wasn't (and isn't) my style. I hate missing out on "shinies" though....lol.
Neither did I, but I am going to now go and play it as Im sure release is at least 6 months away so it may give me time to "catch up"
Catch-up? In six months? You will need the strength of the six gods to do it, because even with my 3k hours in game, I only have 31 out of 50. Some of the titles literally require you to play for 1k hours (drunkard, lucky).
imo this is just too imbalanced...wow if you play gw1 you start the game with mega weps, armor and a pet.. wooow.. okay, so someone who has never played before will be at a disadvantage..whoopee!
I use to play gw a while ago, but I don't even remember my account/user name. Oh well, WTB starter set -.-

You should really read the whole of the Anet blog post before spouting out as if one knows what one is talking about. In the blog post it clearly says:
Your new Guild Wars 2 characters will be able to use these low-level items and armor right away, and we'll provide you with the means to use these special items as you advance to higher levels.
Clearly not a significant advantage, probably the same stats as starter weapons/armor, just with unique skins. All this is, is fluff, shiney, for the leet GW1 player, fluff.

Of course it is. But since you can upgrade your armor in the game you can use it for the entire game if you want to.
ANET said in that video that someone posted above (the 1:12 long one) that they want players to have pretty similar gear and it is more about fluff that motivates people to do dungeons and similar stuff.
The reason for that is of course that PvP should be pretty even so you can't expect to get the same advantage as raiders get in games like Wow.
Gw 2 is a lot about fluff and player skill instead of gear and I think that is pretty sweet, GW 1 had the same idea even if it went further with it.
How long would it take to earn all the rewards from scratch?
If I still play GW after GW2 launch, will it update?
It is all about how much time you have to play. It took me a good 6 months to get to 32. it really is not difficult and this is coming from someone who hates grind with a passion and I also stopped playing for a month within that time too.

Unfortunately, fluff isn't nearly as much fun to acquire. I don't know too many people who get excited when an item drops that *looks* like it should have better stats.
This is the one concern I have about GW2. I'm sure the game will be amazing, but grinding for looks, titles and pets just doesn't do it for me.
I'd much rather see a system where higher tier gear has better stats for PvE, but the same stats for PvP. That way you'd get a much better sense of progression during endgame without becoming overpowered in PvP.
I wonder how many cases there have been where balancing PvP has come at the expense of PvE and vice versa.

You can continue earning rewards even after GW2 is launch according to the FAQ.
As far as how long it would take, I think that depends on how committed you are. Maybe someone who has a high score can share their experience. Generally speaking, as you gain more rewards and titles, the more time it takes to earn the next reward, why because some achievements are inarguably less time-consuming than others. You'd likely start off and finish the easier ones and earn rewards already.

At 25/50, I need 5 more achievements to get all the items, including the Black Widow Spider unlock.

Even shit sometimes has corn in it. That's content.
Sometimes poo is soft and other times it's rock hard, that's variety.
Actually the only thing FFXIV even has in common with crap is that it stinks.

25/50. 4 minipets -> 27/50. Tormented Weapon -> 28/50. 28 should be enough for me, got no time to grind the titles :S
Pretty nice site, updates at the same second you log out from GW too
currently at 18/50, need to do some workout xD

Currently at 15/20 but I bet I will be able to get 30/50 by the end of the month.
I just want that awesome golem minipet at 27, that's all I care about.
I'm at 33/50. I'd liek to have at least 40/50 before I start playing GW2.

gw1 players should be rewarded for their effort and time they spent on the game. after all, it is them who made their decision to develop gw2..

Time to buy the poncy Vabbian and embrace the awesome of Obsidian.
PvP for the Zaishen Chest and finish those pesky last few armors for heroes I never use...
39/50 atm
BTW a new player could easily obtain 30 points. Its not hard to do. You need all campaigns to do it really though.
Time to smash the UW and FoW again!
Agreed, it is always a good idea to reward your fans.
Blizzard gives betas to their fans to mention another company, a buddy got Starcraft 2 and CATA beta because he is a faithful Wow player.
But this forces me to actually grind points.
30/50 is a walk in the park. I'm at 32/50 at the moment. Alot of the points can be done with your guildies which makes it 10x easier.
