    And people around here claim I'm grumpy? ^^  I'd not wish living under a bridge even on dear old Smed... The times we are in are bad enough as it is, without wishing such ill on others.  Yes, they should have spent more time on their design, and business model.  I hope those who worked on APB find other employment in the industry.  We need talented, experienced people to code new games. Perhaps the designers will think twice after this incident.  Hope springs eternal.... ^^

    I miss Tabula Rasa, will always do.. too bad NC Soft ended it because it was more money in Aion.. who wants sci-fi when there is elf and orcs? Sigh..

    The main thing I enjoyed about Tabula Rasa was the base defense against the Bane. If you enjoyed that, you should check out Global Agenda's raids. They have one an hour, and you have a ten man party to defend your bases reactor from the mech hordes of the Common Wealth.  You have to be level 30 (cap is 50) to raid though.  In many ways its more fun that TB was. Its too bad that most of its PvP focused.  There is a free trial for anyone who wants to check it out.

    Nice Global Agenda plug. If you notice most successful games come from successful companies that already have established lore and background. There are some exceptions of course. I commend NCSoft for trying to be different and trying something new. It is hard to set a new trend in any industry and be successful at the same time. I played every Warcraft game including Warcrt: Orcs and Humans and I am a loyal Warcraft fan. It only makes sense that I would play World of Warcraft. APB had no backstory, lore or previous game to get peoples attention. Game developers should take a hint from this failure and maybe invest in an MMO idea that people can relate to. If NCSoft called it Grand Theft Auto Online and spent more time in development, then I gurantee it would have had more subscribers and maybe been a success. My suggestion is don't make a game just to make money. Make a game that gamers want to play.

    I would argue that Auto assault wasn't revolutionary enough. I remeber first loging into the game ( beta) being exciting to test and try some new. Then the first thing the game asked was if I wanted to be a tank DPS or healer.

    while most of those tried to be different, they did it in a terrible and half-assed way.  

     

    by trying to mishmash their differences with incompatible similarities to the typical MMORPG.

    they didn't try to be different ENOUGH.

     

    like the guy above mentioned about Auto Assault.   they tried to make a post apoc auto combat game..... with tanks, healers, experience points, grinding out 'kill 10 rats' quests, dice rolls instead of proper action that many would have expected from a "physics based" auto combat game.

    mostly it was the same old same old practically no-skill-needed levelling grind.... with a post apoc, car combat theme.

    some people at the time of them closing even tried to pin it on the fact that post apocalypse games weren't marketable. those kinds of simplistic conclusions are always funny in hindsight.  witness how huge the post apoc setting is NOW in the gaming world, including a pretty successful MMO.

    the problem with many of these were that they WERE NOT DIFFERENT ENOUGH.   and the differences that WERE there, were mostly cosmetic and/or incompatible with all the typical crappy elements of MMORPGs that they were too scared to let go of.
