What IRRITATES you when playing MMORPGs?

Rikimaru_XRikimaru_X Member UncommonPosts: 11,718

I want to know: What aggravate, annoy, bother, bug, chafe, exasperate, gall, get, grate, irk, nettle, peeve, persecute, pique, put out, rasp, rile, vex, make you want to lose your mind while playing an MMORPG?

Let me give you a few of mine:

- People who send you an invite asking you if you want to party when they don't ask or say "hi".

- When my mom ask me to do somthing in the middle of a big fight and I die.

- When my mom comes into my room and I die.

- When I die.

- Kill stealers when they do it just for the fun of it.

- Saving a stranger's life by healing them when they are about to die in a fight and they don't thank you.

I got more, but i gtg to bed....image I'll post them later.

Please, share your thoughts people of mmorpg!

THere are a lot of things that annoy me but the biggest has to be this.

    - Getting group invites from people who can't even take a few seconds to actually introduce themselves and say hello first.

I have had trouble getting into groups when I played games to be honest due to the times I've played or simply cause I keep getting called to do things by the family while I'm playing, horrible timing, but even if I need a group I simply won't group with people that can't even take a less then 20 seconds to type the following "Hi. Would you like to group up?" or something similar to that.

    - Also another thing that annoys the hell out of me is when those that send those group invites without bothering to say anything send them again and then get upset at you cause you declined and explained why. I can't tell you how many people I've added to my ignore list because of that and have had to explain in other decent groups I end up in, to other group members, why one group member is on my ignore list if they happen to be one of the people I've ignored before hand.

It's such a simply concept. You greet someone before you go off and do anything with them.

    The random group invites, ofcourse
even worse are the random guild invites.
besides that I hate people asking incredibly dumb questions without even trying to look themselves, excessive emote spamming, l33t speak, people who're the self proclaimed god of a class and decide tho shove their "knowledge" down everybodies throat oh and last but not least.
I absolutely loath unoriginal beggers. *especially* when they combine it with l33t speak

I could probably go on for a bit still, but these are the most important ones :p

edit: oh, stuff like "u" instead of "you" constitutes leetspeak for me as well. I also forgot to misspelled names, seeing a "Gandolf" run around, or a "Legolass" really makes me want to remove somebody from the genepool

90% of what bother me, I find a way to blame it on the devs.  image

I dont mind random group invite, but random guild invite are quite annoying, I usually join a quiet guild just to be rid of it...if the guild talk to much, I may turn guild chat off or leave.

I really hate to have to do something I was not wanting to do.  If I want to solo for any reason, I want to solo. If I want to group, I want to group.  When the game told me that in order to advance, I need to do this or that, this is what piss me the most and usually end up with me leaving the game...I wanna choose what I do, not be subjected to some nazis devs.

Random group invites is number one for me! The quest system in EQ2 just exaserbates(sp?) this problem really badly!  - random invite "can you just help me kill 5 rats plase" image

Begging would be second. I can honestly say after playing since before UO I have NEVER begged and it really irks me that some poeople will beg before they even try to do stuff for themselves. In fact I hate being given stuff because the whole point of MMO's is building wealth and character yourself. Which is why I dont care about real money sales in any way.... because the people that buy are lamers (in game terms) anyway and pose no threat to genuine players. Tiger woods will kick your ass at golf using hired clubs, trust me rich boy.

Third would be being given stuff by high level players. Because I am one of the so called "weirdos" that prefers to play female characters, I always get desperate, pimple ridden, parents basement dwelling dweebs trying to buy a virtual g/f .... its quite sad.... and to pre-empt the flaming about playing females... Im a genuine roleplayer, Im not trying to project my personality into a representation of myself as a man in a form I could never acheive in life (look Im Arrogorn). No far from it. I like the challenge of playing a charcater that requires some thought about where she came from and why she is here. Add that to the fact that looking at the female toons butt is infinately more interesting for months on end and combine it with the joy of PKing the Arrogorn wannabes with your lil chicky babe and you have why I play females 90% of the time.

Finally Id say my last peeve worth mentioning would be people with no MMO "ettiquite", kill stealing, room stealing, training, resource jumping etc.... just no MMO manners image

oh those ninja invites or trades really do annoy me . . I like the games where I can have auto decline for trades invites and duels

  • TigerchaTigercha Member Posts: 182

    1) Lack of manners, Please, Thankyou are words rarely used by our leet speek brethren

    2) Leet speek.

    3) Random invite without prior comunication.

    4) Server Reboots, I dont quite see the need in this day and age with the complexity of our Mirrowing/Clustering Technology

    5) We have GMT can we not actually have times quoted in GMT, I am sure all are aware of the time difference between themselves and true GMT.

    6) People who grind a character day and night and thus have no feel for either the game they play or there characters true characteristics giving his advise to those of us who play the game for fun not for the bragging rights to say we have done it.

I could carry on for days, but these ones are the ones that currently boil my p!ss

Things that irritate me the most.

    Stupid people,

To break that down into sub catergories...

~ People that send me Random group invites

~ People that Cannot play their class..ever...Level 50 and still clueless.

    ~ People who Beg

~ Leet speak ( I dont mind a little of it, People who use Pwned and H4x Do not bother me, so long as its just used on occasion instead of every sentence )

~ People who beg me to get them into my guild.

~ People that use any of the following Crappy abbreviations ( Wut, ne1, lololol!1!!1!! )

~ People that Gut the market, Ie even when there is offline selling their impatient asses Sell their stuff so far below everyone else its not even respectable. This group of idiot's piss me off more then any other. Now I under stand underselling someone by an increment of 1% to 10%, thats called competition. However the idiots that sell for 25% to 50% of  the standard market value just piss me off, what on gods green earth are these retards problem's?

~ People who run around Spamming channels with useless dribble, and or IN CAPS ALL THE TIME.

~ People who run up to me with 50 angry pissed off npcs on their ass, screaming for help die, then have the audacity to send me a pissy tell asking why I did not engage 50 pissed off angry npcs that likely would have killed me too, to help their sorry stupid ass for getting in that position in the first place. ( Here is a hint, if you have pissed off more then you can handle and you cannot easily outrun it..Just die..Dont involve anyone else..Run to a place where you can retrieve your corpse if at all possible..and Die.)

~ People who go AFK for excessive periods of time in a group. ( If you have overactive bladder that is your problem, Kindly warn the group ahead of time and if you start having problems..ie your afk 5 minutes for every minute your not..its time to log and let the group get someone who is actually useful )

~ People who leave the group with no warning..( this is the number 1 method of getting on my ignore/do not group ever list, on the first offence. Normally I allow people to piss me off 4 or 5 times before that..not this though..I dispise this group of people. )

~ Players who bitch about anything other then an outright hack or exploit being Unfair.

Leet speak is my number 1. I hate it when people say owned or they roxxor or whatever they got going on nowadays.

It is fun however that when you pvp and the actually help the char you just killed by giving them a gate or something (uo), that they act suprised and actually dont move for a hour in shock image.

Funny how many people dislike begging while it's actually a skill in Ultima Online, haha. So that's why so few people play UO...

Interesting, I still play UO and I dont ever recall seeing Begging as a skill in my skill list.

I recall it being in EQ, and it was used as an extra taunt..but in UO...nope..Of course you never had to beg in UO...just walk around the bank and pick crap up..

  • TranquilityTranquility Member Posts: 171
UO certainly did have begging, and it was a terribly hard skill to GM too, lol image.

    Beggars

Stupid names (don't mind those that are clever or cute, but I hate those that are just stupid, rude, and vulgar)

    Random invites

Random tells that just say "Hi" from people I don't know

People who ask for things (buffs, heals, ect..) requiring someone else's time or resources that can't even be bothered to take the time to spell out please.

People who get something that takes someone else's time or resources that can't even be bothered to take the time to say thank you or thanks.

KSers and leachers. One of the main reasons I quit CoH and won't go back was because of the rampant and accepted practice of KSing and leaching from anyone who is fighting outside of an instance.

People who don't listen to the group/raid leader, those who argue with the leaders in chat, and those who give out orders but aren't the leader.

People who CONSTANTLY whine about a game that they continue to play. Everyone has gripes about one thing or another, but why play a game that drives you to constant whining?

People who badmouth a game and say how much it sucks after playing that game for years.

PvPers who think every game must have full and unrestricted PvP on every server or it is a carebear game.

Agree with the vast majority of your points - well articulated in most cases.

My no. 1 gripe is beggars - pure and simple. There is NO excuse, NONE whatsoever for begging. In the virtual world, we are all equal (comparatively speaking, save intelligence and aptitude - what one brings to the game. Or not, as the case may be) and I have absolutely ZERO ** tolerance for beggars. One effectively has the idea that one's own time is much more important that someone else's, and that there is a moral obligation to assist you because you cannot be bothered to get off your ass and EARN your way in a virtual game!? Just how pathetic are you? Death by bukkake!

Gah! We 'ates THEM, don't we my preshus?

** Actually, not quite true as I did help an extremely polite newbie beggar who simply asked for some basic equipment. "Self!", I said to myself, "Let's edumucate this fella!", so instead of berating this player for this pecuniary distress, I offered to demonstrate how they could help themselves by making (crafting) basic items, and also EARNING their money i.e. I spent 30 minutes with this player, talking through basic tailoring (this was in EQ) and informed them of how much certain components such as bone stacks, bat wing stacks and spider threads (once you combined two spider webs) could see for. We killed a few wolves, obtained a few basic pelts and made him some basic armour. He thanked me profusely for my help and vowed to mend his ways and earn his keep in the world. Thus, giving me a warm, glow in the pit of my stomach.

    Minor irritants:
    * Kill stealers - karma's a bitch when my friend plays a Monk and fakes death a load of REDS on you
    * Ill mannered players -added to my /ignore list and my low tech shit list i.e. pencil and paper - I have a LONG memory)
    * Carebear PvP players - the ones that kill your level 1 with their level 60, again, and again, and again. Then camp your corpse. Lame. Especially whey they eat it (some time in the future, when they've long forgotten about you), and then bitch at you for killing them. Those ones I corpse camp. Again, and again, and again, and again, and again, ad infinitum.

Random group invites and guild invites, I shrug off and maybe send a quick, polite tell informing them why I'm refusing.

Not much appears on my radar of things that irritates me.

    Good topic, guys!

    Regards,
    Riotgirl
