1: Fippy Darkpaw in EQ - bastard constantly ganked my arse when the game went live...

2: Dorn in EQ - Back when the game first launched a friend and I setup a Cutthroat ring exporting business (running rings from Ro to Qeynos and made a killing). Sadly Dorn loved to chase our arses back to Freeport more times than not...

3: Professor Van Horn (PVH) in AO - God I really hated that damned albino rhino.... Guildmate was obsessed with getting the vest to drop, and it was your group vs 20+ other groups all vying for the 18h20m spawn.... So many weeks camping him....

4: The Mercs in AO - Pain in the arse to spawn them back in the day and an even bigger pain to take them down... specially when one of them would teleport you across damn near the whole of Rubi-Ka... and I was the unlucky SOB who got to pull him.... (Peter Lee I think it was.... been way too long...)

5: Tarasque in AO - Between fighting Tara herself and having to fight off the clanners (Omni here - Band of Brothers) this was one fun raid! What was even more fun is having the same guildie almost break down in tears because the GPH never dropped when he was there (and never did drop for 2 years for him :P )

6: The Hand of Unrest in EQ - hated that damned hand....

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

lol Anyway, I really don't even remember his name (any help?) but I'll never forget him.  To this day he is the most successful bane's of my video game existance, ever.  The random high-level (relative to the zone) necromancer that roamed the Qeynos Hills praying on noobs.

EQ was my first MMO and I started out as a Ranger in Surefall.  Naturally I eventually wanted to explore my surrounding and no matter how careful I was, I inevitably ended up facedown kissing dirt after this guy unleashed hell on me out of the blue.  Every once in a while I got lucky, saw him coming and had the opportunity to haul ass for the closest zoneline screaming like a.. well.. noob.  :)

I vowed to get up to his level and come back and whoop him one day.  Well, clearly I didn't really understand the EQ con system cause when I got up to his level and returned, he whooped my ass again yed again lol and I learned about some concept called 'under-conning' lol.  Damn I hated that guy.

If you are reffering to my post. I never said it wasn't cool, I just knew that everyone else here was going to be posting about UO or EQ or some other MMO from 10 years ago flexing their MMO egos.   I never played UO or EQ, I did play nexus tk back in the 90's but it was so long ago I can't remember any epic boss battles from that game.

I posted a boss battle that stood out for me, granted it is on swg and in NGE era and came out maybe 2 1/2 or 3 years ago, but it is an instance that stands out for me. It was fun, it was difficult as in you needed a strategy and not just dps and gear where everyone attacks one guy. You have to know what you are doing. In other games all you need is gear and dps... I had some pretty epic boss battles in AION aswell.  I like the battles where it actually takes some form of strategy and knowledge of the boss to win.

    Kizdean Gix from Everquest

I loved Kizdean Gix and his buddy, Dragoon Zytl... I was a dark elf, most of the time, so they weren't so mean to me. I was once sitting on the wizard port-in pyramid in West Commons with a group of people waiting on a GM to form a guild when Zytl came up and killed everyone but me. I stood up and /hugged him. ;)

Holly Windstalker, on the other hand, was love-to-hate NPC. Even when I wasn't a dark elf, she would sneak up on me and kill me. Invariably, a wolf or a bear would attack me, I'd hit them back, and she'd appear like some angel of vengeance and strike me down on the spot. XD

For me, it's not a matter of "flexing MMO ego". It's not even Old Game Nostalgia Syndrome. I just haven't played enough of newer p2p games to have any NPCs stand out. I was playing EQ almost continuously from release until about a year and a half ago. I played some other games for a month or for a few months, but I never got familiar with any 'infamous' bad guys.

You get to post what you know about, and we will post what we know about.

I have played some f2p games in the last year and a half, and I have a feeling that mentioning anything from those would REALLY be considered uncool.

Though I kinda think Tanis Ka in Jade Dynasty ought to be on my list. He's not a bad guy. He's a main quest giver and provides daily buffs and double exp to lowbies, and now he gives a daily "Divination" gift... but I suspect he's really a troublemaker. I just don't trust that guy.  (LOL)

That is true.  DIdn't realize that UO and EQ still had players actively playing the games.  I thought about subbing nexus again just to see how it was, but the game is over 12 years old now and I just can't bring myself to waste the money.  Games didn't start getting real good until UO and then EQ came out changed the whole genre.

Candeth Martine in Asheron's Call hands down.

I remember sitting in the subway and he did a Call to arms disguised as Elyssa. Had everyone come out to Arwic festival grounds and murdered us all. About 200 of us not only fighting portal storms but now Martine ripping us to shreds.

    I enjoyed this list, thanks.

That really could be a scary experience, and while we are on that game let me add any Imperial with an AT-ST walker in the old days of SWG.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Actually that one was a pretty good one especially since they seem to make her pretty annoying everytime you encounter her up until you learn about her.

    The Chase

Matrix Online. When I thought I was safe, did not know what zone I was in but I was then encounter by a Agent! We look at each other for like five sec and his words where "Leave, you do not belong here" and then I just took off running not knowing he was right on my tail. I ran through alleys, store shops, apt buildings just to see one of the NPC living there turned into that same agent, hop to roof top to roof top and then manage to get inside a abandon building basement that happens to stretch out to  a safe zone, the back wall.

    My memorable of intense.

Well, yeah I was.  In retrospect I should have just come out a said it. Maybe I'm getting coy in my thirties? Lord I hope not...  Anyway, I got prickly because I percieved a slight at the type of answer I was going to leave (which was later confirmed by the ego comment).

Look, I totally understand not liking the "I'm an old school gamer and that makes me superior" attitude but, with due respect, just bringing up memories from old MMOs doesn't mean that that attitude is being displayed.  This is a thread about recalling (fond?) memories and when doing so, many people naturally think back to 'firsts.'  In the interest of comlpeteness, there was an ulterior motive for my post but it also had nothing to do with newschool vs. oldschool.  I was just hoping that someone else remembered that guy and felt the same way.  The older you get the more you get a kick out of shared reminiscence.  If you don't get it now you will one day ;) It's fun.  - Peace

To the lady who posted about Kizdean Gix, grrrrr! lol  That was my second most memorable (read: hated) bad guy.  One of the things I became determined to do as an early MMORPG'er was to make it alllll the way from Qeynos to this far away city I kept hearing about called Freeport at a level that was laughably low for that kind of trip (I was like level 10 lol).  It was a crash course in the art of trying to stay a good distance away from everything that moves cause they'll all kill you.

Anyway, I eventually figured out how to avoid every bad thing that can happen to you over the course of that trip except for one thing.... yep, Kizdean Damn Gix.  I felt like that joker didn't do anything but sit all day and wait for me to try and get through his zone, which just happened to be at the point in the journey where I was ALMOST there.  At least I saved myself the embarrasment of vowing to come back and challenge him one day.  I leaned my lesson from the random necro. ;)
