That was cool. Nothing I like more than people coming together to kill badass monsters.

    Nice vid!

How often does that dragon fight back? Cause I only saw him cast something once, other then those whirlpools when he dove under water. Is he just a tank-and-spank type of mob or does he require special tactics?

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Watch the second video, it is much better and shows the different attacks.

I'm sorry, but that video was boring as hell. The dragon didn't even seem like he cared to attack the group and it continued to fly in a predictable pattern. There was no surprises or strategy involved, just point and click. Just awful. World Of Warcraft puts this to shame.

Going to have to agree to some extent, although he does seem more challenging than the Fire Dragon, pre-HellFreeze (haven't seen a video of Fire Dragon prior to HellFreeze). But additional attacks patterns would be interesting. Like creating a long "blue" Wall Of Fire, lowering his altitude and attempt to push players off-board and summon a whirlpool, etc.

I have to admit, he doesn't seem very hard nor dangerous compared to Kraken, which I've had trouble with. Fire Dragon was a breeze, long but too easy and not enough risk. That being said, it's not something difficult to adjust for AV, so who knows, perhaps one day.

I beg to disagree on the WoW comment though. Bosses where you just need to watch video to learn the pattern is freaking boring and unchallenging.Once you've figured out the pattern, it's just some boring sh*t that needs to be repeated over and over again for the purples, and that's horrible.

Go play WoW then and troll there.

Back on topic: I just checked out the second vid. Looks like a pretty lengthy battle. I was laughing when the kraken decided to jump into it.

The battle looks like a sphincter clincher.  What people who haven't played the game miss are the people repairing the boat,  the people healing, The debuffs,  multiple epic mobs (Kraken & Ice Dragon).  There is a lot going on in the video which looked pretty eciting to me and I've played quite a few MMo's.

I don't mean to be a troll but I have to agree I watched the video expecting something "epic" and it really didn't hit the mark at all, as another poster stated maybe there are things going on we just can't see due to the players perspective.  To put it in the best light possible it feels like maybe you need to have extensive knowledge of DF to find that terribly exciting.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

What would qualify as "epic", out of curiosity?

I can't tell if you're serious or what, but I'm genuinely curious as to what would qualify as epic for those that didn't like the video.

I don't know what you're talking about, that looked epic as f*ck....  Made me want to reactivate my account

The only thing I'm worried about is the amount of players, are there still a good amount in the North American Server?

It's very active right now. I can honestly say that I am pleasantly annoyed by all of the "interruptions".

Slightly more interesting fight then against Fire Dragon thats for sure, but epic ? Not at all. It just flies in circles and dives from time to time, while randomly firing up some skills.

I would call it epic if it actually would sat on your face, swallow your clanmate ( and spit him out with disgust after realising it is a stinking ork in spiky full plate ) and fight against you on the ground.

The problem is that melee combat in DF in general and ESPECIALLY against a mob is plain horrible.

There is no reflex based timing involved to hit or avoid being hit.. No dancing around trying to dodge a swing ( the only way you can pull it out is by double tap dodge but looks and feels so clunky ), blocking to counterattack, attacking from different sides etc. It is simple: you are parring while rest of your group is hacking away.

Don't forget as well that to balance out the obvious weaknesses of AI, most medium and high difficulty mobs have tons of HP, which makes fights last forever and leads to a lot of frustration if you happen to fight alone a whole spawn of mobs. I wouldn't be surprised if those specific fights against the Ice dragons lasted 2-3 hours each.

I would consider that fight 1000 more fun if that dragon would kill me in three hits of his fangs, but he actually would have to AIM his DODGABLE attacks. Shooting 30 000 arrows to kill a circling mob with 100 000 HP. That's not fun at all.

I personally had more fun in DF killing mobs which have less then 400 HP, it just feels more dynamic then grinding away with a bow mobs which has twice, three and more times HP each then you.

In short DF mobs should have less HP and offer more dynamic, engaging and smoother melee experience.

Looks like NA took down their dragon much faster. Guess the EU1 server kinda sucks eh? =)

as evaxia said, WoW is the answer to your question.

I personally find that hysterical but it is what it is.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

What I find epic about the EU video is you have a collection of people, not segregated by class or level, nor restricted by the number of people they bring, venturing out in the ocean on a player made boat in a non-instanced  world to take on a flying ice dragon that dives in the water, causing all sorts of mayhem.  You see people shooting cannons on the boat, repairing a boat, which can sink by the way.  Anything can happen, and it does.  The Kraaken makes an appearance which is a totally random event.  Also in the video it shows that two warring clans used real diplomacy to set aside differences to take down the beast together when the one clan couldn't do it themselves.  Yes, everything about this video is epic.  Enough so to blow other MMO players' minds.

Well put, and in relation to the WoW comment trolled by evaxia I would also simply add:

the fact that aiming is required alone make it better than WoW, not even touching all the other aspects in comparision.

I don't disagree with what you said, but what I see in that video is as well two clans which have so few players that they need to strike a deal with an enemy to actually try out new PvE content. I see a game which offers new, fresh but not neceserry always fun perspective at MMO gaming.

AV should give all dragons strong healing abilities. So it would take more people to just overcome heal spells.
