I am sorry but I disagree with both of those WoW "bad guys". If we wanna talk about ultimate evil in WoW there is only one word - murlocs. How many times I died to those little bastards I can not count. And no matter what Alliance char you would roll, sooner or later you would run in to em and meet your doom. They are the real plague of Azeroth and the biggest bad guys around!
Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...
Kromede in Aion - easy as heck but a fun baddie none the less
Clenched fist of hate - SWG a bitch of a boss for the unprepared in the early days heck even now PUG's can often struggle
King Consierd, Aion - Seriously that feckin bird I hate him, the bane of alchemists all over atreia out picking herbs when this overland raid and his 6 km agro range (what it feels like) gets his birdy eyes on you.
next 2 aren't NPC's but by far my main Nemesis' in any game to date
EQ - GM controlled Dragons running amok 100s of players trying to take them down whilst the GM's laid waste
Berlinda' - SWG EU-Chimaera player buffed to the nines with multiples of everything the game had to offer would often take 4+ very well organised imperials to take her down and just when you thought you had her off she would run out of combat for a full health bar heal and back into the fray.
I remember Van Cleef he was a great villain. I would nominate The sorcerer babe from AoC Tortage and the sorcerer babe from the first book in Lotro. Maybe I just like sorcerer babes?
I fiubd the Murlocs to be a pain too. I was Alliance and when people started talking about the new races that were going to be brought in I would make out I had heard rumours that the Murlocs were going to be the new Horde race. Needless to say that did not go down well with Horde guys.
The most memorable bosses have to be from Guild Wars because they stand out so much... The Lich King, Shiro, Abaddon... even ones like Rotscale and well all the bosses rreally... IMO

And who can forget the famous Rodgort (a bow to Homestar Runner's Trogdor) the Flaming? My ele used his skill all the time after she (finally) vanquished him.
best encounter ever, shame it was only a once in a server lifetime opportunity.
did anyone ever actually beat Kerafyrm? his scripted event after he killed the raid is the only thing i ever remember of it. but unlocking a dragon from a vault who goes on to wreak havoc on the entire server gets my vote any day.
Thanks, that made me smile. Pookie was indeed one of the most bad ass. I still have memories of run ins with that ill tempered rodent ^^
But no list of MMO bad guys would ever be complete without listing the one who managed to lose more than 2/3's of a AAA titles(SWG) player base inside of two to three weeks. The villian in question is none other than dear Old Smed(John Smedlley). In any sane system, he would never have worked in the industry again. Instead, he was promoted. Talk about perverse incentives. ^^
Another that sticks in my mind is from AC1. There was a multi level dungeon with huge thunder apes in it. Trains in there could get VERY unpleasent. Once you heard that thumping sound everyone would start running like hell. ^^
For me it has to be Eumenides, the boss of the Subway in Anarchy online that was just running around randomly. i remember i killed everything in the upper subway and a guy said to me "oh btw there is a secret door down the end of this passage" so we ventured through the door and he would be stood there in front of us, he would then go on to pawn our asses. but he was worth killing to get the Ring of the Nucleus Basalis
Bad news for Van Cleef fans, he's being removed in Cataclysm meaning you can't fight him anymore which sucks because Blizzard says he's dead in the games lore, I say f*** the lore, Deadmines just isn't the same anymore. I mean updating the Deadmines instance isn't a bad idea but replacing all the bosses isn't what I had in mind. I think this is a sign that WoW is going to go downhill, making Cookie the Murloc into the final boss is the stupidest thing Blizzard has done to this game.
Why fix something that was never broken in the first place?
For EVE I think Helicity Boson is an evil genius - the person in charge of Hulkageddon. Doesn't have to leave station, still manages to kill thousands of miners. Genius.

I have a few mmo baddies that stick out in my mind and will never leave no matter how long it's been since I've played.
#1Liches (UO): I had so many nightmares fighting these guys. You could very well get overwhelmed if you didn't have a gameplan. The only way I could handle this deadly foe was to step in the doorway of a small hut someone had built, bring a silver katana and have the baddies march in single file for their beatdown. But if more than one got in that house....or you didn't have a silver weapon, it was death.
#2Nightsisters (SWG): These whirlwinds of death swarmed on you like flies on chet. And their voracity was only matched by their eerie appearance. I learned soon after that not to screw with these women unless you brings lots of friends to help. As a side note, I cannot help but feel that witches for L4D were fashioned from these femme fatale.
#3Malboro (FFXI): Collecting item specific drops from mmos has never been as frustrating as hunting these things for their vines. And soloing them was a chance at witnessing your character die a slow and paralyzing death with nothing you could do about it. Bad Breath is forever stuck in my mind as the worst thing that can happen to you outside of death, because it soon followed anyway.
#4 "Arise my champion!" "At your side, milady!" These quotes are etched into my memory in such a way that I will always remember this duo. Scarlet Commander Mograine and Whitemane (WoW) are such an impressionable set of mmo baddies for me that I have to include them on my list if not only for being such a unique (and frustrating) duo to fight.
#5Mor'Ladim (WoW): Raven Hill was his playground. And if you were so foolish as to mistake him for the other trivial undead soldiers walking around, you'd find yourself at the short end of a health bar soon after. I cannot remember the countless times I was busy killing some mindless undead when this walking pain in the azz would swoop in just to see me sprint away with tail firmly tucked. It wasn't until much later that I learned of his plight and his cursed existence. Nevertheless, Mor'Ladim will foever be honored to me as the Bane of Newbies and King of Raven Hill.

Wow (no pun intended). I had forgotten all about that guy. Probably because my only real encounters with him were as a young gnomish lass (mage) when I played Alliance (which wasn't long, as most of my years playing WoW were spent playing Horde). He scared the ever-virtual-living-shit outta me. I remember going back and taking GREAT delight in killing him when I "grew up." LOL He truly was a bastard with a capital B.
Commander Crushbone. Spent many an hour camping him and his throneroom only to loose it to someone else when you pulled the whole thing. Also, any of the bosses in Annuminas in LoTRO. Almost nobody bothered to do them because they weren't technically "engame" but they were lvl 50+ bosses before MoM and they were nasty and just getting to them was a pain in the arse.
Howard the clown from Battle of the immortals.......I so hate him.
And the red dragon from vault of night raid in DDO, mostly due to it only taking 1 tard in a 12 man group to waste several hours invested plus name another mmo where baseball is part of battle strategy.

Ambassador DVinn
Dvinn to zone! Prepare for a 30 minute rampage.
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.

This guy was just so annoying because he was in a low level dungeon zone but could easily kill players that were lvl 25ish.
Current MMO: Aion
MMO Watch: Warhammer 40k Online, SWToR, GW2.
Played: Planetside, SWG, EQ, EQ2, L2, WoW, RFO, KAL, MxO, Voyage, RO,Vanguard,Tabula Rasa, Horizons, CoH/CoV,, Lotro, FFXI
First MMO: Everquest (Tunare Server, Ronin/Tide Guild)
best encounter ever, shame it was only a once in a server lifetime opportunity.

van cleef, pffft, some low lvl ally encounter.....
#1: arugal!
kicking asses since silverpine, and he still didn't die for the last time in lichking!
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"

Hogger made it in over Fippy Darkpaw?
EQ1 is truly dead now.
Another famous encounter in EQ1
Ambassador D'Vinn. How often I died or heard DVinn to zone!!!!
Cookie the Murloc is pure win, so shush !
another honorable mention.
Vindicator - EQ1
Very disapointed not to see Amarthiel (Sara Oakheart) in this list...
