and here is the reason why so many games get released when they are not truly finished and customer service usually counts for nothing. Because despite so many reviews, opinion and articles trying to inform you that a game is a pile of trash, people will still flock to vigourously defend it (probably so they dont have to face the reality that you wasted your money of a pile of crap when you should have listened in the first place).
So lets take a stand.
Dear Square Enix,
I am a huge fan of your games and have bought almost every one without regret. However, as an objective long time game player with a mind of my own and having played the game to the point where I am happy that I could form an opinion that is personally valid, that this latest FF MMO is indeed awful and needs huge remedial action if you expect it to be anyway succesful with the mainstream player base. I hope you do something significant to improve the game but I doubt you will. You can always use the new "F2P" getout clause but right now - this game is less fun than than slug racing.
Other reviewers did just as good as this, if not better. One said review had the director on video that says the same thing...facts by any other reviewer are still facts. One can only hide from them for so long...or so many reviews in this case. THAT IS A HINT.
"When you want to equip an item to a particular slot, the game doesn't just list the objects you can choose for that slot but, instead, lists your entire inventory."
You mean the facts like this one here from the Gamespot review? I bet you think thats accurate huh. Truth is, its 100% false, yet another lie, a twist of facts by a professional author to embelish thier viewpoint in order to sell thier story. Or maybe the facts in the Game Trailer review.
""And good luck telling if your buddies are online if they aren't already on your freinds list, which incidentally requires that you add them while in close phisical proximety." (spoken in a slow and deliberate tone to emphasize the issue)
No, no, thats not true either. You dont have to be anywhere near someone to add them to your friends list at all. You just need to type thier name in and its added, period. Guess they added this comment in to drive home thier view of the game, make sure everyone believed them. Oh and lets not forget this statement by the professional author:
"You can put up with it and get by if your irrationally determined."
To drive home the other point, that he believes anyone who would even try and play this game MUST be completely irrational. Now thats professional isn't it.
And on to the Gamespy review, where we get this fact as you put it.
"I'm sure that -- given a year of nonstop patching -- FFXIV will probably be out of beta and acceptably functional. But, barring a complete overhaul of the user interface, the combat, the player interaction mechanics, the progress system, and of the layout of the world itself, FFXIV is unlikely to ever be fun."
I guess they gave an unbiased review of FFXIV huh? Sounds like they must have liked....well...no, there was nothing they liked about this game, even the graphics weren't good enough for this guy. This review didnt' have any blatant lies like the other ones, but thats because it actually contained no facts of anything in it. It wa 95% personal opinion, embelishments, and colorful metaphors galore. Seriously, even the simplest task is a paragraph of negativety for this guy.
"In order to access your retainer after you've gone through the irritating process of purchasing one, you must first find a small, nondescript, bell-like object in the middle of a densely packed room. Once you've located said bell, you must find the proper standing distance to trigger the option to summon your retainer from the main menu. And that's when things start getting stupid."
And you guys call these good reviews full of facts???? I'm sorry, but any review, writen by a so-called professional that contains outright lies in them deserves no serious concideration. If they are willing to alter the truth in order to sell thier story, even if its just once, how can anyone trust what they say in the rest of thier review. If they are willing to bend it once, how about twice, three times?? You all my go ahead and blindly believe what these guys are writing and calling it fact, but its not all fact, so dont make it out to be that way.
Yea, thats it, the conspiracy theory strikes again. I see it now, the 4 game site reivews all got togeather and decided, "Hey, this is such a great game, lets just put in bad reviews on it that NO ONE else concurs to so we can trash our name. " Yea thats it, then we get all the people on other game fourm sites to say the same lies. So, we wait until at least ONE game site review scores this game with...what ever you feel is the best score for the game. Ok, I'll buy that, now tell me, what do you think this game should score on a 1-10?
OH, BTW, don't look now but there is another country joining the conspiracy, "One of the biggest upsets in years on record in the genre." I will let you find that lier on your own kid.
Oki, sorry for the fanboys but here is what i really think: the UI of a game is what makes me 'bond' with the game , where the action goes thru, where things are supposed to be 'naturally' communicating with me, so a good UI should be something i can understand quickly and where I would not have to rush/read/debate/swear about.
It's just like you try a new car and there are no pedals, no shift gears, no meters and no doors. Maybe ill find the way after looking into the manual, maybe ill find a way after push every inch of the car trying to locate a button and maybe i could find the way asking someone else around me. But maybe ill just step aside and get a car I can drive normally. It is what is happening now, people leave or dont even try the game/car.
But for those who did enter the car, they made the car move and they just realise its not even working properly! So they give 2/10 on reviews.
When I play a game, I play to have fun not solve the mistery of how it works.
OH, BTW, don't look now but there is another country joining the conspiracy, "One of the biggest upsets in years on record in the genre." I will let you find that lier on your own kid.
So what part of my post pissed you off there? Was it the part where I quoted thier reviews? Or was it when I proved they didnt' tell the truth? Or was it that you called them fact and found out they weren't all factual? Or did I knock your icecream cone out of your hand when you realized that what you thought was right, wasn't actually right? This has nothign to do with conspiracy. It has to do with integrity. If you come on here and lie to everyone, and get caught, do you honestly think everyone shoudl just ignore that lie because your special or something?
Let me clear something up for you and your conspiracy friends. I hate liars, I dont care what your lying about, I already hate you just for being a liar, even if I never met you. There is no excuse for telling lies, ever, period. There is NEVER a reason a professional journalist (which the peopel writing these reviews claim to be) should ever be lying about what they are writing about. They get payed to give objective and factual reviews of the products, not to embelish the fact, twist them, ommit them, or lie about them for ANY reason. Any professional who is willing to lie to further his view and sell his story is not worth his spit and should never work for anyone over the tabloids. Nor should anythign he write be eblieve beyond the tabloids.
When one of these professional reviewers writes an accurate review of FFXIV, that doesn't include false information, lies, ommitted facts...a review that is complete and non-biased, then it should be taken literally for what it is, good or bad. The problem is, noone has writen one of those yet now have they? No, all the reviews to date have been story tellers versions of the game. They aren't reviews at all, they are blogs, and nothing more.
I'm going to quote you now to show everyone here exactly the type of person you are.
"I will let you find that lier on your own kid."
I think that says volumes all by itself. It take you a long time to come up with that?
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)

You are fooling only yourself if you think there's a conspiracy. There's not. The game is simply bad. No review can be 100% accurate, especially when it comes down to a game so poorly documented one has to work things out for one's self. They can however be accurate when it comes to first impressions, how they play and how much fun they are.
I'm going to use this thread about something that was been erking me in some of these reviews.
OK, WTF is up with some these sites saying the map sucks or is broken? I don't get it.
LOL, ok, let us put the map into laymens terms for you,..no wait, they will, "The maddening part is that the game never tells you, even in the goddamn manual, that these keys have this very important function. "But even if you figure that out, the map is still a bitch to use." That is a hint...ok?
I agree the game or the maunal should told you that IJKL moves the map if open.
I wanna know how you can say it's a bitch to use, even with the keyboard after knowing the keys?
My only problem with it is that switching maps is annoying... because you have to use that menu.

The map is a pain to use simply because as with any map on a computer you expect to be able to drag it with the mouse, and zoom in/out with the scrolling wheel. This is so standard it's amazing that you can't do it. It's a matter of simple binds, not rocket science. Once again for SE, trying to reinvent the wheel doesn't work here. Seriously, IJKL is a joke for camera/map control, it's as much unintuitive as it gets, and requires that you look at your keyboard all the time if you're to use those binds...
Take the Gridania area for instance. The parts of the map are all almost looking the same, so it's very hard to know where you are just by looking at the map (at glance). You'd need a quick zoom out, but you can't. So you just 'IJKL' until you see an interest point that you know of. Then again to remember where it's located relatively to some other place. That takes time. It's tedious and boring to "fight against the map controls". When they should be "seamless", you shouldn't have to even think about those things.
You are fooling only yourself if you think there's a conspiracy. There's not. The game is simply bad. No review can be 100% accurate, especially when it comes down to a game so poorly documented one has to work things out for one's self. Your right, there is no conspiracy, someone else decided I was saying there was just because I pointed out the false information from 3 reviews on FFXIV. I never said it was a conspiracy, because that is foolish. As for the game being bad, thats a matter of personal opinion, something we have no lack of these days. And I am going to state this one more time for all those that haven't listened the first 100 times, there is documentaion in the game that points out most of the controls and explains all the little things these reviewers say doesn't exist. Because they didnt find it doesn't mean it isnt there.
And your right, no review can be 100% accurate, but they can be truthful, which they are not. If I look at your car and see it has 4 tires on it, then turn around and right how bad your car is because it only has 3 tires, well thats just not the truth now is it? And thats what these guys are doing here. They are going into thier test of FFXIV with preconcieved notions of it being already bad, and spending thier review time looking for verification of the faults they want to write about. If you dont believe me, take 3 or 4 of these bad reviews and make bullet points from start to finish, number them, and compare them. You will find 3 out of 4 of them have the exact same bullet statements in the exact same numbered order.
Anyone who has been on these forums for the past 3 months knows exactly what those bullet statements are. Its a checklist, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. "Yup I found number 1 its there, can I find number 2?" Dont take my word for it, check yourself. Its not a conspiracy at all, but if author number one reads the forums and biases his review on what he reads, then author number two reads the forums and review number one, well his review is also going in biased. Its obvious if you read what they all write.
Take the leve system for instance - everyone of them, all they put about the 'quest' system is your limited to 8 in 36 hours, and there is nothing but grind to do besides that. Where are the local levequests? The faction quests? The guild levequests? The behest? Did any of them even mention the statement put out by SE where they explained the original intent of levequests was that they should be shared by the players, not run solo? And that they stated officially that since they expected the players to be more socialable when it came to these, that they were changing the recharge timers to help until the players got more familiar with grouping and sharing them? Nope, but every one of the reviews made a point of making a point that there were only 8 quests in 36 hours and nothing else to do. I wonder why that is?
I have 4 linkshells on my main character, on this past Sunday I did approx 20 levequests with my first linkshell, took an hour break to eat, came back and did another 30 levelquets with my second linkshell, 2 faction quests, and a behest. I then took another meal break and came back to do my 8 local levequests. And I did about the same on Saturday with my other two linkshells. So if ONLY 8 in 36 hours is true, how did I do all that? Seriously, its as if these review writers are only trying to test out the points they think the public needs to know. They dont even appear to be trying to see everything thats in the game, they have thier checklist going in and once they verify those talking points the rest can be made up to sell the story. Hell, one of the video reviews actually had content form a youtube video from closed beta time frame cutscened in to make thier point. Seriously though, how many times do I have to watch them show how combat is while they are mashing the number 1 button, bling, bling, bling, bling, bling...with zero stamina, 15 attacks in queue, and a voiceover complaining how bad the system is? Well yeah, if your a total freaking idiot and can't figure out that doing THAT, is wrong.
But no you are 100% correct, you can't expect any review to be 100% accurate, but we SHOULD expect them to be just as accountable for thier content as they are holding SE for thiers, shouldnt we? If thier review content is garbage, shouldnt we be just as pissed off at them as we are as SE? Afterall, thier reviews are trash as far as journalism goes. A non professional blog writer can drop stuff like these all they want, they aren't being payed to provide a service to the public. But these guys, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Once your guildleve run up, you are out of those quests, which is 8. You can HELP other people do theirs, in which you don’t get the experience buff or the rewards from what I saw (thus making it grinding), but it’s still doing the same mindless quests that don’t relate to the story and are exactly the same over and over. You’re spinning everything into a reality that doesn’t exist other than in your own head which is sad because your personality test claims you’re so logical. I saw virtually nothing about the video reviews that were lies and if anything they said was slightly misinformed it’s because SE has so poorly constructed the game that even professional reviewers are struggling to make heads or tails. I’d recommend you calm down and relax… but I’m sure you won’t. I can see why you’re so angry and upset though, you played so much FFXIV recently .
Yeah well, 90% of the comments in this review fall back to numerous statements about how they couldnt' figure it out, the game didnt' show them something. Its mostly assumptions built off lack of 'knowing' from the looks of it.
Seriously, I look at a review in the context of reliability of the author. Good or bad doesn't matter, a review is afterall one persons view of what they seen. I do however look poorly on any author who changes fact in order to further thier viewpoint. A lie is a lie is a lie to me, and if the author is willing to tell a lie, even one, in thier review well then I dont care what the rest says.
So far Gamespot had at least one in theirs, and this one has one as well.
"You shouldn’t have a hampered play experience just because no one breathes a word about your gear taking durability damage that you can’t even see unless you show it to a vendor who can repair it."
Just not accurate at all. You can see your durability on every piece of gear you use in this game. If the colored icon at the top with the mouseover tooltip doesn't get your attention enough you can manually look at each item seperately. The in game manual also covers this topic completely, lack of reading it when it is on EVERY crystal you touch is not the games fault. To say that you cann't even look at the damage on your own is 100% false, and I'm sorry, but anyone who has played this game for more than 2 hours knows this as true.
So where does that leave this review? Well read it again after you know the author is willing to 'bend' the facts in order to push thier viewpoint and see how it reads this time through. What I see is this...
"the fact that there’s no real strategy to the “hit-the-same-buttons-till-it-dies” combat is inescapable."
"And I guess since we’re on the subject of stupidity, now would be a good time to mention the atrocious interface. "
"But the sour cherry on top is that FFXIV’s interface lags something fierce."
"Other classes fall into the gathering or crafting category. Both spend their time doing ponderous mini-games that have the spark of potential, but just end up being annoying after about a dozen times."
"The maddening part is that the game never tells you, even in the goddamn manual, that these keys have this very important function."
"So you’ll have to check the objectives map, back out through some menus, bring the regular map up, and try to remember where you saw those objectives."
Fairly obvious, he got UI lag for whatever reason, hated it from there. No help, couldnt' figure it out, blamed the game for all his troubles. Hated the gathering, hated the crafting, thought it was all boring. Didnt' bother to try and understand the intracacies of the combat at all, just mashed one button and figured thats all there was to the entire game because he could survive a low level mob encounter that way. Oh yeah, and got lost a lot, lets not forget that one because its paramont to the overall review. No direction, no guidance, bad game.
"So for now the economy revolves around NPCs called retainers that each player can employ."
This last quote from the review I saved till last as I think it generally points out the reviewers lack of knowledge on how FFXIV is already evolving within the first two weeks after launch. Anyone who is playing this game, and has taken a small trip down Hawkers will know what I'm talking about. The economy doesn't happen in the retainer market wards at all. They are just there, thats it - hardly anyone I know even bothers to go there except to use thier retainer for a bank anymore.
No, the economy is in the places where the crafters craft. Standing in Hawkers, one can see the bustle of 100+ crafters making thier wares, a crowd of another 100+ browsing thier shop, yelling out for goods and services they need, the crafters are shouting out to the crowd with items they are selling. The economy in FFXIV is becoming what you would find in a real world market economy. A trip down to your local China Town market and you will see the same thing, French Quarter shops, Farmers Market, thats where FFXIV economy is.
This review has missed the head of the nail by miles from what is in the game right now. All they did in this review is tell how they didnt' have a good experience in thier short and limited test of it, thats all. And they went out of thier way, as most have so far, to leave out any good points, and bend and twist whatever they can to further thier view of how the feel it is. Its a 99% story of how they didnt like the interface and felt the entire game must be broken because of it lack of guidance.
Intracacies of combat!? AHAHAHAHA. The combat is a another wow clone hotbar system. Cake to learn and mostly involves spamming the free attack button. And the whole combat experience suffers through laggy responses and missed animations. Intracate? Give me a break!
Yay! Criticism! My favorite part about the game. Not only does it piss off people that cancel preorders, but it also continues to piss them off to this day! SquareEnix, you are God. I wish I could piss this many people off, but unfortunately I'm just me...

Here's some of my KitKat. Or did you prefer Twix? No wait, two for me, none for you. Clones are great, especially all the Arnold clones in Stolen Identity 3. I'm glad you're laughing. Laughing is good, especially for a game as intricately notorioius as this one. This game is like a diety with worshippers and infidels in it's glory. Thanks for laughing, I find it very healthy.

First off, a review is meant to be biased. A review is an opinion. The reviewer is stating their opinion of whatever it is they are reviewing and giving it a score on their like factor. Trying to claim a review isn't unbiased is silly since it is supposed to be biased. We believe reviews based on how much we agree with the author's track record. Essentially, we're looking to an 'expert' to provide their insights on something so that we don't have to waste our time in the process of trying things out ourselves.
"In order to access your retainer after you've gone through the irritating process of purchasing one, you must first find a small, nondescript, bell-like object in the middle of a densely packed room. I’d recommend you calm down and relax… but I’m sure you won’t. I can see why you’re so angry and upset though, you played so much FFXIV recently .
Uh huh, see this is exactly what is wrong with people and why you will never like FFXIV. Because its a GAME, you play to have fun in, with other people. You get together and help one another. You and others who think as you have to have rewards to enjoy anything. It has to progress your character at every turn or its worthless. You play every game as if it is a competition, and if there is nothing to compete against your attitude is why bother. It is true this game is not for you. You need instant and constant reward gradification in order to feel your time was justified. Anything that doesn't provide an efficient xp/minute gain affixed on your spreadsheet is irrelivant. That is just sad.
Game = entertainment = fun
Work = progression = competition
The point you missed in all of that is, I joined up with friends playing a game and we spend hours having fun together. You appearantly neither have friends or do not know how to have fun with them for any length of time. That is the ONLY logical reason for you to completely miss the point of that entire paragraph and make up the stuff your spitting out here. My personallity test is 100% accurate. I have just logically deduced that you do not understand the concept of what an RPG game is all about. You see how that works?? This is in fact not a reality I have made up, it is exactly what the reality is. You appearantly have difficulty in understanding basic concepts, which again is neither my problem or my fault.
Lies = not truths
Telling people that you have to stand next to anyone you want to put on your friends list is not true. Telling them the equip inventory function is completed messed up because you have to find your items in a list of all your inventory is not true. Telling people this game only gives you 8 quests in 36 hours and there is nothing else to do once you finish those 8 is not true. Now if you want to play like all this is in my head go right ahead mister. Anyone who plays this game knows I am telling the truth here. And once again, because you do not personally know the real facts, you cannot see where they are telling things wrong. If you had the basic facts, as they really are, then you too could see the un-thruths they are putting in thier reviews. This however, once again, is neither my problem, nor my fault.
And the stupid comment "if anything they said was slightly misinformed it's because...". NO, it is thier freaking JOB to get the facts about a game and provide a valid and thorough review for the public. If they are not researching the topic and finding the facts prior to writing the review then they are failing at thier JOB. The only excuse for them being misinformed is they didnt' do thier job good enough. Dont cover for them, they aren't paying you. And like I said in the previous post, a non-professional blogger has the right to make these kinda of mistakes, a professional journalist does not. A game reviewers JOB is to provide the public with the facts of the content of a game. It is NOT to provide an opinion column and gain notoriaty in an atempt to become the next Glenn Beck. If they want to write opinion pieces they should get a job as an opinon columnist. If this is above your comprehension, then there is nothing I can do further to help you understand.

You can invite anyone to friend list from distance but you can not invite anyone to party or guild if they are not standing close to you. You can not even kick players who are offline unless they are standing next to you.
Finding your items and going through your inventory is indeed a mess even more if you are leveling multiple DOW,DOH classes. Lots of armor favor gatheres and are no use to crafters. Same goes for DOW armor.Evey class has their own unique armor peices. Imagine the frustration every time you switch class and have to change your setup, thanks to autrocious inventory system.
After you are done with your 8 guild leves there is indeed nothing left to do other then helping players with their leves. if you are not a crafter you end up grinding mobs. Being a DOW class you don't have that many option. you can join a boring Behest but it also gets old very fast. I know you will say join a good LS. but it is easier said then done. not everyone is lucky enough to find a good helpful LS. And community is mostly silent in game and for some reason allergic to playing as a group.
The reviews was not as false as you trying to make it.

Now see, this is a more accurate review than what the author of the one starting this thead gave us. It doesn't try and flavor the information either negatively or posatively. And the information is accurate. There is some information left out, but its a good start. So why can't our professional journalist start with something as simple as this and build from it? Why did it have to twist and turn to feed his agenda? In the Game Trailer review, why couldn't they say that first statement? Why did he have to use incorrect information, leave out even more and then emphasize his speach in the review to make sure the persons watching got the impression he wanted them to get?
Thats my point here exactly. And no, not all of the reviews are false, there is a large amount of accurate data in them, but this information is dropped inbetween negative buzzwords and thrown out of context to the point it vanishes in the shadows. Seriously though, watch these reviews again, read them again, and when your done see what you get as the review impression. Do you take anythign out of them about the game other than its bad? Do you remember any detail of whats actually in the game at all? Or do you just come out of it feeling this game sucks? Did you actually learn anythign about the game itself, or did you just get the 'nothing I did I liked' from the reviewer feeling? Because the review is supposed ot be about the game, not about how the reviewer felt about the game.

Excuse me? How are wods like "a mess" and "imagine the frustration" and "autrocious" not tinged with opinion.
I could post that all those things are fine, but then I would be flavoring it? haha.
Macros make gear swaps for any job easy, the only problem with this is that there is currently a bug preventing multiple items of the same name (sucha s brass ring) from being equipped in different slots this way. This only affects jewelry as you wouldn't equip two of any other item.
You have 80 inventory slots to start out with, this is more than many games give you. You actually have enough room to carry several sets of clothes on you at once. You also have a retainer which you are given for free which has another 80 slots, plus you have 8 slots in your bazaar and 8 on your retainer's bazaar in which you can store things.
Even still I run out of inventory, but I don't like throwing anything away. I certainly don't run out of inventory from carryign around my different sets of armor for gathering/crafting/adventuring which form my signature you can see I all do.
I'd advise against taking the advice of Littlestuart who freely admits that he is unable to find a good LS because the community is "silent". It is not hard at all to find a helpful linkshell as they are recruiting on all the fansites, it is a new game for most of them all you need to do is simply post an application. There are maybe less linshells spamming chat because there is no global chat, but there are a few who do this if that is the only way you know of of finding a linkshell (like littlestuart).
It is also very easy to find groups once you get into your teens, and moreso when you reach your twenties (just like in older MMO's where you actually had grouping).
People feel that guildleves are repetitious, however my take on them is that they are a great opportunity for people to group without simply grinding the same set of monsters over and over again in one place. You can still do this, but the preference for grouping is leves.
The opening cinematic gives a good idea of the feel of the game in my opinion,
This is the gist of party play in XIV, you grab some leves and seek out a group to do them with. You can do them alone but it is not as fun in my opinion, and you limit your chance for overall sp (skill points), drops, and gil (money).
I couldn't imagine wanting to do faction leves (more like the leve with the marlboro NM featured in the video) alone because of the work it takes to activate them.
In between doing guildleves at the top of every hour you can join a Behest from the battlewarden, these are generally joined by large groups (up to 15 people) after you sign up you ask for an invite to whatever group is leading them and then in a few minutes the event starts. They are a good way to get skill ups in between leves.
After you have exhausted your leves if you don't know anyone else who is willing to let you share theirs you can of course do local leves (crafting jobs), or grind crafting/gathering/adventuring. Grinding adventuring sp can also be done in a group, and so far group grinding other than very difficult leves and faction leves is where you find most of the more intresting game mechanics of teamplay at low level including the use of Battle Regimens.
At 20+ a large group of up to 15 players is finally able to get very good SP by grinding on much more difficult monsters than would be thought possible solo. This is because of superior buffs and armor gained at that level, most of the people complaining about grouping aren't of the proper level to begin grouping so they have no authority on the matter.
All of this is why I like the game, I'll concede it is not for everyone, but I hope that anyone looking for some real information on the game won't get stuck on the nitpicking of these reviews and if not try the game out for themselves at least read about more substantial features than the "interface" and the "confirmation menus".
I am in a very food LS you doofus; i was talking in general terms. Not everyone is lucky to find a good LS. And lots of LS advertising means squat if they are going to break up in few days.
Moreover, i won't agree that 80 inventory slots are enough considering SE encourages you to level multiple classes on one characters. Crafters 8 classes alone has 16 tools in total and 6 for gathering classes. So thats 22 slots gone just right there. Now add your armors and weapons if you are leveling 2 or more DOW classes and all the material you gather.
Unless you keep throwing a lot of stuff in your inventory its absurd to say that 80 is lots of slots.
I already mentioned that if you are DOW you have very limited options. You can either help others with their leves which are no different then your own or grind mobs or partitcipate in a behest which is a cheap version of public quest system. There is lot of grind and repetition here. What this game need is serious content update. Not everyone likes to be a full time crafter. Games are about option and choices and FFXIV doesn't offer much for different play styles.
No where does the game or maunal tell you that you can scroll that map. That is a gripe and although minor and can understad why.
So its 'broken' because the players dont know how to use it?
Yeah, thats usually how it goes. If a player can't figure something out in a few seconds they just pass poor judgement on it, or whine about it until someone shows them.
Its part of that whole instant gratification thing kids love to do now.
If a lot of your clients can't figure out how a feature works. It is poor design, not customer fault.
Bingo. They don't get it because it's the MMO equivalent of getting in a car and finding out the steering wheel is in the glovebox.
The interface should NEVER be an obstacle. It should be as simple and intuitive as possible.
The goal of any interface is for a person to hardly notice it. To perform a task, a person should almost be able to do what they instinctively think they should do in order to perform it. This is why you "flick" a touchscreen to move around instead of accessing a menu, then click on a submenu with arrow keys in it.

Actually people aren't supposed to just get in a car and start driving without any previous instruction.
That people can't figure out a feature without reading the instructions only says a lot about your culture. Nothing is really that complicated, everything is either explained or self explanatory. People who for exampel can't figure out how quests locations are marked on the map (when you have a big button that says map right on the journal page) just refuse to read.
The interface should never be an obstacle, but then again peole who are too dumb to figure out the interface shouldn't be applying credit cards to online games in my opinion.

If its a normal car maybe, but if the steering wheel is in glove box then ofcourse you need instructions.
Not being able to read and comprehend what others are trying to say also says a lot about your culture too.

I'm sorry not even "normal cars". We have this thing called Drivers liscensing where you have to first learn about how to drive a car, then actually pass a test before you should drive a car.
If you can't read instructions, if you can't read buttons on your screen well then you might be a complete moron.
You know, after logging in these past few weeks on this wonderful troll infested site ive noticed this endless trend in the forums. Every day i load this page and you always see 2-3 threads in the FFXIV forums and they always say the same thing, blah blah blah website gave FFXIV (Insert terrible score that you actually think holds credibility here) and post your righteous concern for others spending 50 dollars of their hard earned money for a shit game.
You know, you can stop now because we get it and the community gets it. Yes im currently playing the game, and yes i daresay that (SHOCKER!) im enjoying it. Most of the trivial bitching and 90% of these supposed problems id say I can agree with the UI lag and game lag (that all folks). You would think all the time people spend spamming the next joe shmoe website with their review, that they would rather play this aformented amazing em em o that they are playing that they arent complaining about.
So when i comes down to it, why post the same shit over and over again? I know you all have this need to be a hero of righeousness for the american dollar and have someone save that 50 bucks so they can buy that shit console game they wanted, but really?

When you will learn how to read a post properly we will discuss again. the poster was comparing cars to mmos and what he was trying to say is this... a person who knows how to drive a normal car (in this case a guy who is used to playing mmos) will have hard time playing FFXIV not because he is dumb or stupid because FFXIV tries to be cryptic and obsecure on purpose. This doesn't make FFXIV challenging just tedious. Its a bad and lazy design to leave simple instructions like 'how to scroll a map' hidden. ofcourse that person knows how to play MMO but its wrong to blame him because devs were too lazy to make a simple instruction manual.
It is sad that i have to break it down to you. Its like talking a to a little kid from nursery school. Next time i will draw a picture for you with rainbow colors.

THIS, THIS is 'bout as true as it gets.
Also, what's this about 8 battleleves some static and then nothing else? This ain't a shakeweight commercial >_>
Switching from a DOW or DOM to a crafter should be as easy as macroing, so just from doing that you gain access to 8 more local leves.
Lets say you finish those... then what?
Guess what? Each camp has an hourly behest with a "miniboss" mob at the end of the behest.
Still not satisfied? Why has nobody talked or covered any of the numerous dungeons that litter Eorzea? Try going to them and exploring them next time you play (I can't guarantee your saftey of course >_>).
Even after that, you can switch to a DOL class do some gathering on your own and try crafting some stuff.
I don't really understand how people can say there's nothing to do I feel like I never have enough time....
Comments
and here is the reason why so many games get released when they are not truly finished and customer service usually counts for nothing.
To err is human....to play is divine

Perhaps you could correct this process then? How is what he wrote of the process as lie? I'm sure that's exactly how he had to do it. If there was a better way to do it he was unaware of it.
Game = entertainment = fun
Work = progression = competition
Lies = not truths
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
