Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Underrated is an understatement!

All the people who've been rating this, on average have put it below games like Fiesta Online, Tibia and other O.K games. I mean really? I got the collector's edition for this, and I noticed huge increases in performance from Open beta to release. That's how hard they are working. Furthermore, the game is so addictive! to be fair, I am surprised I've stuck with it this long, but I just keep liking it more and more.

It is definitely underrated, to say the least. Putting this in the 6s is so unfair, I am gobsmacked! Alright, it's not perfect, but it's not terrible either! I think people I rating this way too low, and giving FFXIV a bad image. Give it a chance people. Regardless of whether "it still has bugs" or "it doesn't matter, it still has bugs!" it's a great game.

This only problem I find is people don't talk enough.

Thanks! :D

For anyone to respect your opinion, you must respect theirs.

You like it, I for one am less enthused.

Without being specific and writing a tome of +/-, It's an average game, it's not terrible, but it's not great either.

    For me, it's a 5 tops, never a 6.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

I do indeed respect others' opinions, however I just don't understand how other, (once again in my opinion, crappier) games get by beating this score wise. I am more curious, than angered.

    Thanks! :)

I think it has to do with the expectations. A player getting an indie or F2P MMO is going to have lower expectation than a AAA title with a subscription.

For me it deserves the rating its getting. I found it way too limiting and very boring. There's not much more i can say.

You have made 6 posts. Aree you need to mmo`s?

Can you list the ones you have played, and how long for?

It seems that it is your first, and for many new games are addictive, but I have played pretty much all the main 1`s for many months, and tried most others.

I`m sure many posting are i nthe same situation and can take that experience and apply it too what we see and expect.

Played WOW (5 years), AOC, AO, EQ2,AC2, Horizons, Saga of Ryzom, SWG, CO, STO(Beta),ROM, Allods, and many other F2P titles. Asl been in beta for many of the main titles and played countless SP games. I have been gaming for 15+ years!

which has nothing to do with it. I'm playing it now out of curiosity, i like to play new MMO's. First impressions are that while it is VERY different in the way it does things -- UI etc -- it's not a 4/10 IMO. In fact it's great to see an mmo that doesn't conform to the usual UI and systems.

For me the conformity in so many MMO's has a detrimental effect. Bored playing WoW? Great come play our game with the same setting, same controls, same UI layout, same combat mechanics BUT different textures.

Does that, alone, make FFXIV a must have? No, but believe it or not, not everyone has the same likes & dislikes. I happen to agree with the OP sentiments, there are many worse MMO's out there that have scored higher.

The game was a worse flop than AOC. They let a lot of people down. I don't have the exact numbers, but out of all the boxes they've sold so far, 75% of them haven't resubbed after their free game time. That's saying something.

most of those games have had months if not years for their score to rise to what you see now. for this argument to have any merit  you need to know what those games scores were right after release in a similar time frame as FFXIV is.

Saying something about the game or the players? It might be a good game, but if people want a WoW clone, they will be disappointed.

Not much changed from closed > open > launch. I am pretty tired of giving it a chance. I will admit the game looks nice and sounds nice. After that there really isnt much going for it after that. Thats pretty much how the reviews read out. For me I can not give this a high mark based on what it could turn out to be.

AOC was a game I bought but never subbed after the first month, FFXIV is the same for me.

There are other MMORPGs that do what FFXIV does, and better...

I am sick of waiting for patches by people who calimed this was a complete game.

I am returning back to FFXI, and avoiding Erozea like the plague. you can stay if youy wish, but don't call me crazy for saying this game isn't up to par...

Agreed. We've seen this time and time again. People buy the game anyways against better judgement (myself included) and play until like level 10, log off with the excitement of a new MMO that seems different on the surface, come here and post that it's not nearly as bad as everyone is saying. Then you log on a few more nights and realize you're getting closer to level 20 now and still doing the same thing you were doing at level 1. So you run around looking for new things to try, find crafting to be fun and refreshing, harvesting to be cooler than the usual, and you post some more how the game is fun.

Then you try to make a few crafts that are level 1 and you're level 10 now and you're still failing, losing the mats you spend 30 minutes trying to find in the market ward so you decide to go harvest some more and realize the at first fun mini game is now wearing out it's welcome and just now appears to be sluggish, tedious, and boring. Then you wake up the next day and say to yourself hrm, FFXIV is still kind of fun and I am enjoying it but today I'd rather do the dishes and my laundry because I need to. After doing those chores you realized not only was it more fun than FFXIV but you were rewarded with clean clothes and dishes, while FFXIV chose not to reward at all for progressing.

This wasn't my experience exactly but it's fun to be a little dramatic. :)

And FYI, no one wants a WoW clone. Why do people keep saying this? I've almost never heard anyone say "I want a WoW clone", WoW is still climbing in subscribers and a new expansion out very soon, I'm pretty sure 99% of them are just playing WoW if they want a WoW clone.

I love this game, but at the moment is definitely a 6. It's rating is fair, not to say that it won't be an 8 come march, I have no doubt it will, but as it stands it is definitely a 6-7 rating. The UI is just too slow, monsters are scarce, and market wards are a pain. I'm thinking by december it will be worthy of a 7, and by march an 8.

  • ReizlaReizla Member RarePosts: 4,092

Not sure if FFXIV is *THAT* underrated. When I look at how FFXIV is made in the core (and certainly compared with FFXI), I think SE wanted to aim on the masses but keep the old FF feeling alive. And that's just exactly what's wrong with FFXIV.

I'm not saying that FFXIV is a bad game. It has good elements in it, like the guild leves, the gaining XP when gathering & crafting (including the mini games) and all such things. But the bad thing comes along with it. Adding guild leves was indeed a good move to make FFXIV more open for "the masses", but SE lost sight and forgot about the role-players. The guild leves make the game feel more like a theme-park than WoW is (no offense to WoW players this time :p ).

Personally, if I should have to rate FFXIV in it's current state, I'd give it a 6.5 to 7.0 max. As said, I like the idea behind the guild leves, but it should not be the main part of the game as it is now. Instead it should be a supplement to the game...

I haven't rated it on the site, but I would definitely put it in the 4-5 range.  I am happy that some people like it.  I was disappointed that I didn't, but I don't hold any animosity to anyone that does :)

Ha, I don't know how you came to the absurd claim that I've only played one MMO. Oh wait, because I have 6 posts on an MMO forum? Really...? I have played countless MMOs: AoC, CoH, LotR, WoW, RS, FF11, RF Online, GW, Tabula Rasa, Tibia, Fiesta, UO, EQ2 and many more. Most of the bigger titles 3 months +.

But where did you actually reply to the point of the thread? Nowhere, so go get lost.

It may have the potential to be greater than a 6, but that does not mean it is greater than a 6 right now. It was indeniably released way to early. Yes there are a few minor things to do but that is it. Once they add more content(that should have been in the release) then MAYBE it will get a higher rating. In all hoensty though with the damage SE has done by releasing the game in such a state (It is not the palyers fualts for the bad ratings, it would have gotten rated better if SE hadn't done this) I won't be shocked if the ratings stay around the same. Many people now will avoid this game like the plague just beacues  it wil always leave a bad taste in their mouth. Not trying to hate, just being honest and realistic.

Are you going by the reviews on this site?  If so, don't bother.  As much as I love coming here for the forums the review portion of this site is rather well known for being a joke.  Not so much the reviewers for mmorpg themselves, but since they allow people to vote without even having to commit to their vote or at least state why they feel that way the ratings for games on this site is completely fucked.

Regardless, to answer your question the reason it appears that way is because many of those other games like the ones you mentioned are rated too high while SE is getting nailed lower than it probably should.   Because I think many expected more from a company like SE so they are judging it "harsher" than they would if it was by a lesser known company and franchise.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I never trust any rating from anywhere.  When it comes to games it's all too personal for someone else to make up my mind on whether I like a game or not.  I'll just say this is the best game I have installed on my computer (over 30 games).
