Hype and GW2

Yes 6 million sold (nearly 7 now) on a game that during beta they projected a successs of merely 250k-350k during beta. Clearly a recipe for failure.

OP also seems to have forgotten to actually look at his box of GW1 which clearly has NCSoft logo on pretty much every side. Unless of course he purchased it from digital download from the NCSoft store.

I will never understand trolls. Its as though they expect us not to believe they are as stupid as they act. Its easy for a smart person to act like an idiot, not so easy for an idot to act smart (convincingly).

How much NCSoft is infuencing  Guild Wars 2,if at all, is sometihng only people inside will know for sure right now.

I forgot about CoX and Paragon Studios, completely. But you look at all the big big failures from NCSoft (Dungeon Runners, Exteel, and soon to be Aion at this rate) and I just hope they shut their mouth and let ArenaNet do their thing.

I'm...not...sure? What are the terms of the rent contract? Am I allowed to have pets or not? Am I allowed to kill my neighbor if he plays his music too loud after a certain time?

Also, NCSoft has as much influence as a book publisher (probably less), which really isn't much.

dont expect gw2 will be like gw1 gw1 failed financialy btw nobody of us saw that contract

GW failed financially? Says who? You?

    yes...i bought every chapter
now do some math...wow income vs gw income
assumed the same ammount of players

Let me see if I'm following your 'logic'... any game that doesn't make as much money as WoW has failed financially?  So, EVERY GAME EVER has failed financially?

Again, how did GW fail financially? Some financial statements showing proof of this would be nice.

How exactly did GW1 fail financially?  Haven't they sold something like 6 million copies of the game?  Plus all of the expansions...  And now they're doing another with the same payment model.  I don't think they'd repeat it if it didn't work.

    they will not repeat it

Weak argument. No evidence to back up the OP's claims.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

I don't even know what the argument is. The initial post is not really coherent.

I think this is probablyt he most reasonable statement about NCSoft's involvement in Guild Wars 2. From what we've seen it looks like the teams for AreaNet has had a lot of freedom witht heir game. Hopefully NCSoft is realizing that ANet knwo what its doing and sees how much they have done on their own to get their fans truly excited for the game. If not... I'll probably still play it because at this point I dont see how it could possibly be worse than so many of the games out there.

Also I almost dont want to try and refute the OP because debating with someone like him makes me feel like Im taking advantage of a simple minded child or something. Games dont need to have insane subscription fees to be successful, if they make a profit from their game then they have succeeded to at least some degree. WoW has no doubt been successful, few people could argue otherwise. But keeping up to WoW is a stupid standard for determining success. They've both succeeded, they've merely done it at different things WoW: Raping Lore and Raking in Money. GW: Making an interesting IP that has fewer fans but some very dedicated and happy ones.

But seriously, I and mmonooblet hijacked the thread to talk about ownership and creative control and subsidiaries and...stuff. I think it better than the original "topic" if you can call it that.

Anet is a independent company, NCsoft is a publisher. NCsoft has power in the sense that they are probably providing financial backing for GW2, but that does not mean Anet is owned by NCsoft. Anet is owned by the founders.

Read before you type.  Anet is a WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY of NCsoft.   Anet is OWNED by NCsoft.

"Located in Bellevue, Washington, ArenaNet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCsoft Corporation."

Croc just likes pouring gasoline on dry tinder and standing back.  He lets others strike the match for him.  An excellent example of the passive/aggressive troll.

Anyways, this thread has gone off topic, but here's some answers to the reccurring themes.

NCsoft own arenanet, but do not govern the game development. After the success of guild wars 1, the guy who runs NCSoft west (the branch that owns arenanet) is actually an old arenanet employee, i'm assuming it was one of the terms of the purchase of arenanet. Arenanet could be said to own themselves in that respect! But regardless, they get creative freedom, and by the looks of it, release date freedom too. So NCSoft provide some funding, and that's about it.

Guild wars 1 did very very well financially indeed, with 6 million sales of an average of $40 per player (low estimate, more like $70) that's a lot of income. NCSoft bought them to cash in on the sequel after it's success! The T-stones in the cash shop are also the same kind of thing that you saw in gw1.

Basically this thread has been a load of trolling and should now be closed.

Load of croc, Anet doesn't publicly admit that NCsoft parent company has influence because that would make people weary of gw2.  You are pretty ignorant if you think the company that owns another company has no pull in that company though.  Hell, anet can't even release the game unless NCsoft wants to.
