I wonder why no one is commenting on the cataclysm in the video. I love that so much!!!! I spotted 1k needles, booty bay, darkshore, barrens, org zep tower, loch modan and SW at end getting 'sploded, crashed and smashed! Awsome!
Sorry, but I got to argue that I'm much more interested in Deathwing then other dragons. He has a interesting and filled out story that is original enough to make a dragon, normal fantasy creature, exciting. Especially with his connection with the Old Gods wonder where they are going to take that. All in all good stuff.
I'm really surprised so many people are getting down on the dragon. Huge peices of metal getting bolted to anything is pretty awesome. It'd even be bad ass to fight a steel bolted unicorn IMO. The huge wave breaking over Booty Bay made my hair stand up. Same great quality animation Blizz's cinematic team has always done, maybe the best in the business. It's a pretty tough toss up between them and square enix. And BTW, who doesnt know that cinematics are animated, not generated like in game. Does it really surprise you that the quality is better in a 2 minute cinematic that took a team of people months to animate? Heres your next shocker: Wrestling is FAKE!!! /Deal with it
Seeing the discussion of this cinematic on various site would explain why WoW is so often the subject of discussion that it is. You have people that want to leave their spouses and spend their nights with this clip. You have people hoping that those that enjoy the clip are not allowed to breed.
It generally pushes opinions to the extreme. Though, to keep it from being didactic - there is the group that is extremely disinterested and does not care either way.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
Well, knowing WoW, some named figure will come in at the end of that raid, cast a spell, use an amulet or something, and banish him back to the depths.. never really defeating him, but only keeping him docile.. until he returns again...

You forgot those that are so utterly miserable that they feel the need to try and drag others down to their depths. Hoping to squeeze the fun from anything others find enjoyable.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
I'm surprised by the average cinematic intro. Such a concept should have evoked more tension, drama and emotion. One of the negatives is the music score. I still liked it though but definitely the worst of 4 cinematic intros.

Those would be in the second category, no?
But still, those are extremes - but it was meant to be an extreme example of the way that the majority of people appear to be reacting to the clip...
...and to be fair, it does not give credit to those that simply did not like the clip. They are allowed to dislike it, point out all the many flaws they see with it, and share their opinion on the matter without it being an attack on those that enjoy it. As for the other three groups, those are generally sliding scales from it was cool to nerdgasm and the like for those that did not like it.

Yes perhaps your second point did cover it I guess im odd that while I do enjoy the game and have a love of dragons I found the clip just , ok. Actually the best part to me was the anticipation factor of what areas of Azeroth will see a big change and so in that aspect it worked for me. Anticipation is what most "comercials" such as this are meant to stoke I think.

I suppose that is where I kind of felt let down. I had seen screenshots of the various areas, so the short clip did not really add to that for me. I cannot remember in which of the several threads on the cinematic that I mentioned it, but if you have ever seen the commercials for any of NBC's old Sunday night disaster movies - something more akin to that would have grabbed me.
In one of the destruction that took place...were there any people. In Deepholme, yes - there were some folks getting knocked off of scaffolding. Above ground though? There was not a single person. There was no "horror" involved in what was going on. No people screaming or fleeing from the destruction. The "human" element was missing and thus I failed to make a connection with it.
Vanilla pulled me in with the new and cool that it offered. BC pulled me in with the humor of the Sheeping and Murlocs getting killed by the Warlock. LK pulled me in because I played a lot more WC3 than I did WC2 or WC...the Fall of Arthas is a very tragic and gripping story. This one for Cata though...
...this one for Cata. It is not a case of saying that it is complete garbage by any means. I could see adding to it, taking it to that 3-5 minute range and how it could easily have rocked my socks off.

Thanks for taking the time to write that up. It's what I felt when I saw it as well. Note that I've already purchased Cata, I'm just not impressed by the cinematic.

think that guild wars have the dragons from wow than
warcraft is from start all about dragons read the books
Nice intro, not amazing, but its nice. To bad the game is so utterly boring.
Blizzard is losing their touch.

Life sucks, buy a helmet.
Love the intro, not interested in playing though. 1 year of that game should be enough for anyone except those with OCD.
It is interesting how a flaming dragon can bring out the flaming mobs.
