     I don't.

As much as I think chat in general in these games has gone downhill I still enjoy the chat.  It passes the time even if I'm not participating in it.  Only times it bothers me is when it turns into throwing insults around or people start getting on their soap boxes.

When that happens I simply leave chat or put the person(s) on ignore if it is only a few.

Besides, much as I don't care for the asshattery the "Holier Than Thou" crowd that used to have a conniption fit if someone said one sentence they felt was out of line or in the wrong channel were a lot more obnoxious to me. Not to mention how in their anger they used to spam the channel ten times worse than the supposed "lawbreaker" did.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I have to completely agree with this.  Trying to send a message is incredibly difficult as you don't enough space to write anything.  Trying to send instructions or advice is a tedious and difficult process as it takes numerous posts to send even the most simple of messages.   I often find I can't write a single sentence before I run out of space.   There is also no global or regional chat tab, which also limits communication options available to the players.

Then again, considering some of the nonsense and idiocy that occurs in the trade channel in WoW perhaps not having a global chat isn't a bad thing.

Part of it also has to do with fact the game population has declined quite a lot plus with tepid box sales there is not enough influx of new players to make up for players who are quiting.

the UI is so horrible that people don't want to use it to chat and most people are probably using controllers now anyways.

In other mmo, you may get positive or negative response in chat channel. In Japanese mmo world, you need to beg for help and convincing other people that you like the game and trying to get into the game as a noob or newbie. You may have better chance for response. Or, keep trying to get attraction from the chat channel, if people like you, they will throw out a few words. Otherwise, it's like the hotel in the morning, you found every room hanging a sign on the door knob --Do not Disturb.

FFXIV is Japanese culture mmorpg, so get over it if you want to play FFXIV.

I've lived in Japan, have you? The Japanese "culture" you seem to want to talk about is a heck of a lot more friendly than what is being described here.

parrotpholk-Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better.

    [Mod Edit]

there are multiple instances (even in ffxiv) i can remember where people would not get on the planned event (i.e. big crabs ftw!) because they have gotten the drops (only craft materials). they would rather craft by themsleves than help out the others who were dying because a second Tank wasn't there.

Especially with the Elitists out of FFXI from America most Japanese players don't really feel like they can trust other people at all. And it's not: we don't like you because you are not japanese. It took me only 2 weeks to come into a japanese Dynamis shell back then. Just because i leveld together with them and we made a static. the only thing i did: come in punctual and don't coarse around like a jackass.

Japanese players do not boast themselves even if they have the best gear. i had a Dynamis run back in the days with a PLD that had Excalibur (Relic Weapon) and Aegis shield (other Relic) and the best Tanking gear. yet he still declined that he is awesome at tanking. because he knew that is mostly comes down to the situation where he has to tank for us. and wether he could survive or not.

American players (and european players) like to play alone. Yes japanese do that too but for other reasons (farming easy stuff, crafting, etc)

and come to think of it: in japan there are these hotel-like areas. where you rent a whole room. and you have in there a pc and consoles. the reason why ffxi is played a lot on ps2 even today is because tend to have fun when they are playing the game and not make it into work.

This is a game in the end. and it is supposed to be fun. if you don't like it fine. but don't judge other people by their behavious because it's the behavious of the majority of your people that makes the japanese go rage-mode over americans (mostly).

however i want to toss out:  i do NOT say that every NA or European player is like this. but still a majority is a majority. this can not be ignored.

They are, one thing I think this game needs is a regional channel to ask questions. Ive asked in SAY a million times for help as a noobie or if anyoen can let me join a linkshell a newer player can get accustomed too (This was in front of the giant crystal mind you). Guess how many responses during prime time. NONE. So yes, either they don't speak english or FF is EXTREMELY anti social.

Tonight I even asked in Say at the crystal to do some Levequests together and guess how many responses. ZERO. its retarded.

Honestly, was there ever anything to really talk about in the game?

"Where do I get bronze nuggets?" "It's kind of a long, slow, boring process where you basically have to sort of accept the fac- -t that you'll more likely get a ton of various forms of useless rock. So looking for bronz- -e specifically may be a frustrating endeavor." "What?" "Go grab a pick, become a miner, chase down nodes where you'll play a mini game for hours on end to maybe gather 10 nuggets." "Fuck."
