Didn't we already get a fallout mmo? It was called Fallen Earth. And to the guy that thinks the original game designer can do no wrong with his IP...yeah just like Peter (Fable), Richard (Tabula), George (Star Wars) and Steven (Raiders) could never butcher their own IPs....wrong! Try again.

Honestly I think Interplay is trying to capitalize on the recent success of Fallout 3 because seriously...what have they done in the past 12 years......that's right cue crickets.

I guess the keyword is "his" IP

Lol another article that brings out all the doom n gloom keyboard prophets who think they know something.

It's gonna be the first MMO people will hope to be "the next SWTOR" or the "SWTOR killer", teh.

A joke, ok! No need to get panicky! =P

A funny Fallout, eh? Hm. Ok, let's not read into things too early. But I grant them one thing: as much as I loved Fallen Earth as a game, the setting was so gloomy and depressing indeed, I just could not play it. Playing a single player game with a fixed end for a certain time is one thing, but I am sure a too grim setting would indeed not attract too many ppl. Just my 5 ct.

    But why?

  • Bethesda made Fallout popular in mainstream gaming, and now interplay is just trying to cash in on what Bethesda made for the series. Pitiful.

Yup. Best thing to do is redevelop the franchise because Fallout 3 wasn't well received. Was a pretty bad chapter in the series, really. Won no awards. I don't even think Bethesda made any money off it. I don't even think they are planning a sequel.

Seriously however: Interplay have a skeleton staff, have no money and have employed the help of a studio that is not tried or tested and has no released titles to its name. What are people seriously expecting of this? What are Interplay expecting of this? A cash cow. Fallout Online will be an underdeveloped, broken title that will largely fail in the eyes of MMO and Fallout fans.

I hope Bethesda succeed in suing the shit out of them.

Wow man did you even do any research about the game before you talked about it.. It has won many awards Copied from wiki

Fallout 3 won several awards following its showcasing at E3 2007IGN gave it the Game of E3 2007 award, and GameSpot gave it the Best Role-Playing Game of E3 2007 award.[95][96] Following the game's demonstration at E3 2008, IGN also gave it Best Overall RPG, Best Overall Console Game, and Overall Game of the Show for E3 2008.[97] Game Critics Awards gave the game Best Role-Playing Game and Best of Show for E3 2008[98] and GamePro Magazine awarded the game "PC Game of the Year" 2008.

After its release, Fallout 3 won numerous awards from gaming journalists and websites. At the 2009 Game Developer's Choice Awards, it won overall Game of the Year along with Best Writing. It was also awarded Game of the Year by IGN,[81] Games Radar,[99] GameSpy,[100] UGOGamasutra and the Golden Joystick Awards.[85] The game also won Best Xbox Game from Official Xbox Magazine, GameSpy and IGN, while winning Best PC Game from GameSpy and both Game Trailers[101][102] and GameSpot,[83][84] with the latter two also awarding it Best RPG. More recently, the UK PC gaming magazine PC Gamer gave Fallout 3 2nd place on its '100 Best PC games of all time' list, praising its user-modifications, deep gameplay and overall polish.

At the end of 2009, Fallout 3 was featured in IGN's Best Video and Computer Games of the Decade (2000–2009), with the game being placed top game of 2008[103] and 7th overall game of the decade.[104]

Bethesda did publish Fallout New Vegas but Obsidian which has some people from Back Isle Studios. But the game is not a direct sequel. I never got to play Fallout in its prime and when I tried to play it not to long ago it was just weird and the graphics were just out of date. Which is really funny cuz I'll still play NES games but I couldn't play Fallout. Maybe its the nostalgia that keeps me playing NES games.

    sarcasm.

Once again I've been had by the trickery of sarcasm. Its so hard to tell when people are posting especially when they don't do anything to make it different from their normal type. If people would just do Italics or do a /sarcasm at the end it would make things a lot easier to interpret.

I think the fact that everything he said in the second paragraph was flat out untrue was the first hint that it was sarcasm.

Pfff, Would it really be surprising if somebody here said it and believed it? Saying something based on opinion while ignoring facts is a big deal here.

Personally the reconstructing thing I dont know if I would want to put things back to the way it ws before I personally would be more interested in an mmo that would allow guilds to build the world into what we want , and I think to carry fallout over to mmo;s they will also have to make them age restricted cause if there is no prostitution or excessive gore it just wouldnt be fallout what other game makes becoming a porn star a good thing, without these mature themes it wont work and should just be called appocolypse.

Sorry, theres no such thing as age restricted, theres a rating, but that does absolutely nothing to restrict age, its no0t even possible.

Not interested . . . if I want something "funny", I'll go watch Family guy. When I am on the PC, I want to shoot stuff and blow things up (not reconstruct the world). Interplay is going the wrong way with this one.

  • TweFojuTweFoju Member UncommonPosts: 1,236

ok this is interesting, we all know what Fallout is, and i think what they meant by "funny" is that maybe it will be a unique world not only for serious play, but also for a fun play

well, im not exactly sure why he would define FOO as a funny MMO

and shooting is just a small portion of the game, and we are meant to reconstruct the world..

hmm ok, i assume that this game is more to Social, and everyone working together and stuffs

i expect player city building, and stuffs like that

    since this is about "reconstruction"

perhaps we can even see open world housing and player made cities and even perhaps, player made maps?

it's getting interesting, though it's still 1 1/2 years away

    So What Now?

WOW! A lot of you do not understand the FO series at all! The whole series leading up to FO3 WAS based off of dark humor! The whole point behind the FO series was to make a joke of the over exaggerated fear of nuclear fallout back in the 50s-60s. Really! I praise them for bringing back the humor to the FO series once again! Please if you do not know about the FO series and only played FO3 do not talk! Wait till the game comes out and see for yourself.

Ehh, why allways war? Call some hippie-gurus singing Make love, not war and go under anger management :P

And then gather all ppl involved ever (and wanna now) in Fallout IP, join both company's ressorces and money -

and here ya can get some really good MMO, a New Wow-killer!

Fallen Earth was very good thing after ten years of elves-dwarves-hard-bioled-mix but indie company is in troubles to throw conent as often as we can eat thru. Buy them too! Call for more ppl interested in post-apo theme, and there we go!

  • DamarlDamarl Member UncommonPosts: 30

    war..... war never change....

You all of you peoples are so... weird... You know, maybe lots of you played the 2 orginals Fallout, maybe lots of you are old gamers, maybe some of you can understand that both first Fallout were good games with the technologies they had back in the time.

Fallout 3 was... well... it was Fallout 3... A FPS in the world of Fallout. I played the 1, the 2, and the 3. The first was something new, the second was a remake of something that was new within the same world, funny, brutal, sexy and a game with some kind of liberty.

Fallout 3 tho... was nothing new. the same way Return to castle Wolfeinstein was to Wolf 3D. Its funny, its in the same world, we all enjjoyed that world back in the time, but we all know whats gonna happen at the end.

We knew what was gonna happen back in Fallout 1 and 2... we kill the bad guys, and... of wait.. There was way more than one way to finish those damn game. Fallout 3 has more than one ending, yeah but the whole game all you're doing is the same thing you do in a FPS. Shoot, shoot, shoot, reload, reshoot, shoot again, and shoot one last time to kill the damn big green mutant right in front of you !

I miss the time when RPGs were very good... the same way i miss the time when there wasnt 1.7 millions of MMO... Those back in the time that would say bad thing about the 2 first fallout, they were playing a FPS or some kind of car game, oh and Mortal Kombat on the NES. Action was needed for them, we could create the action in old RPG, or you could be masochist and play some kind of toon that dont fight, use his mouth to get out of fight and play stealthy....

Fans of Fallout 3, restart the game and go stealthy ! You'll probably be bored soon enough... maybe you just played Fallout 3 for the action... If the world go wrong and you're stuck with a vault suit, im sure lots of peoples wont be running like mad shooting big green mutant thinking they're invincible !

    Could be funny tho :P

Bethesda, interplay, who cares... give us a good Fallout game that remind us of the good time ! And dont forget PVP ! Cant wait to use my shotgun and take your beer bottles caps !

Isnt it allready out ? called Fallen Earth

  • MorvMorv Member UncommonPosts: 331

What's sad from some of the ignorant comments is Fallout 3 did extremely well actually:

    $300 million in profits? http://www.1up.com/news/fallout-3-ships-47-million

Oh, right, and the expansion is coming out, they made an expansion because the game was terrible right? I would like to add at this point that the user interface in Fallout 3 was absolutely perfect.

Will the MMO be any good? Nope. Why? Because the industry still doesn't know how to make them.

  • JorielJoriel Member UncommonPosts: 177

hmm fallout coming out at the end of 2012, at the end of the world? how ironic is that xD?

Hehe, just must agree with you :)

Many of my friends who are big fans of FO series have shouted - wow, it's real FO but online. And FE is still good game after year if only devs make more work in content adn make game areas to grow. But still they have somehow stupid stubborn idea that FE as game MUST be PvP. Most of PvP fans are long ago gone - for them isn't here as much PvP as they wanna. Their wet dreams would see FFA PvP with full loot, but in those conditions are gone instantly all PvE ppl.

Like me no one in our clan (and as I know we have nearly all our country FE players) don't like PvP and near 90% have never touched or tryed they hyped PvP Blood Sports etc.

And if Interplay starts listen that load-crying minority to build FO MMO around PvP - they fail.

This has been one of the new mmos ive been most interested in hearing about hope it turns out well and we get some more information soon.

Its sad to see many people posting here, raging about the "funny" comment part.

Really, did no one here play Fallout I and II (aka the real fallout, not the Fallout The Grimdark FPS that was FIII)?

Fallout I was funy and sarcastic. Fallout II was funny and sarcastic.

Fallout III was grimdark fps disguising as shallow rpg. A Fallout in the name only, so to say.

IMO, the further away this mmorpg is from the FAILout III design, the better it will be.

Fallout 1 and 2 briliand RPGs. Fallout 3 remake of existing IP to average FPS-RPG... I think it just as an other Bethesda game, more of Oblivion clone than real successor of Fallout-IP... I don't say it wasn't good, but it realy didn't reach the level of previous games. These things just happen, the current way is to make these console-games...

It realy hard to say where could Fallout-MMO realy go, there is one or two ultimate goals in those games. On, long run it could work as just normal MMORPG, but for long term some sort of reconstruction and even involving politics over land-controls seems like an decent idea, but still allow us to go kill stuff in remake of the old good way. Mainly I wait Fallout as an other Sci-FI MMORPG as there can't be too many...

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

Interplay created this license so it is fair that they are making the game. If they are competent enough to make a good MMO or not is just something we have to wait and see.

But I think Bethesda is seriously ticked off by the whole thing. :)

I think anyways that Bethesda should make a MMO out of the Elder scrolls IP which them themselves made instead, they are doing that better than Fallout.

Like many of the previous posters the line "Fallout 3 was a little bit too serious--that's definitely not where we're going. Our Fallout MMOG will be extremely funny," caught my eye as well. I was a bit thrown off by this comment, but I remember the Fallout 1 and 2 and how much I enjoyed them. Fallout 2 is by far my favorite of the series and I trust their judgement.

    Current MMO: Aion
MMO Watch: Warhammer 40k Online, SWToR, GW2.
Played: Planetside, SWG, EQ, EQ2, L2, WoW, RFO, KAL, MxO, Voyage, RO,Vanguard,Tabula Rasa, Horizons, CoH/CoV,, Lotro, FFXI
First MMO: Everquest (Tunare Server, Ronin/Tide Guild)

    Actually that line reassured me.

Original Fallout I and II were sarcastic dark humor creations parodying the fear of nuclear fallout that reigned in 40's-60's. It had a lot of sarcasm, nabs at the real world, politics, etc. It was not horror, it was not action, it was a cynnical, sarcastic black comedy. If it were made into film franchise it woul dwork well as woody allen movie.

Fallout III replaced all of that with small instances of generic dark humor and generic serious grimdark post apocalyptic world. So many chances to nab various homages were missed.

So yes, that quote just confirmed to me that these devs know what Fallou tneeds.

I agree with the adult themes in general except the sex part. Fallout is post apocalyptic and thus crude, harsh, etc.. Blood, bullets, bad attitudes, and the like are some of what makes the FO series what it is, but sex? Seriously? That only applies to all the jag offs who can only enjoy the game by downloading all the nude mods and the like. Some people just need to grow up and quit making every game now with mods where naked people run around with guns and grenades and swords. Oh, that's really how it would be right? That makes the game more immerse to the nature for which the creators were intending? Whatever.
