During last weekend's Blizzcon in Anaheim, California, the World of Warcraft team unveiled the new log in screen that will go live when Cataclysm debuts on December 7th. The screen features Deathwing lurking over the top of castle ramparts. Check out the video released by Blizzard showing off the new look.

mmmmm who saw the cabal girl on left? on topic its cool, now is a red/flame dragon
Oh look at that.
In game graphics of Wow Cata really ... suck not.
In before the first dull comment comes in )
Have a nice life.
It is a login screen..... How can this even.... Really it is just a login screen? Is there something important I'm unable to grasp her or is this a news article about a login screen...
It shows the in game graphics and effects. You know the ones you see in Cata. ... For all those who have "played" it on forums for 4 years now
My god...you're right....it IS a login screen!
"Sharon, kids....come look at this! It's....it's....a LOGIN screen!"
"Oooooo Ahhhhhh!"
(To be fair...it's a news article about a login screen....the login screen to the most hyped game expansion in the world, one with a player base the size of a mid-sized county's population. Yes...it's "just" a login screen.) /shrug Seriously...I've SEEN worse articles and news reports here. (Don't worry...I own't rehash any of those.)

Those aren't in-game graphics, that's a login screen. That's not what the game looks like at all. Look at the human male model, or worse yet, the dwarf...THAT'S the in-game graphics of WoW.
But yes, this login screen looks nice...so what?

Everyone on this site:
1: MMORPGs are DOOMED, and I have the answers to save them!
2: THIS game's gonna kill WoW!
3: I wish things would go back to the Golden Age of MMORPGs, which only existed in my mind...
I was really hoping they'd move away from the roaring dragon login idea. After two years of roaring Lich King undead frost dragon, I have no interest in hearing roaring Cataclysm fiery netherworld dragon. It's annoying. Wish they'd allow us to choose which login screen is displayed.
Anyone else notice in the video that the login fields don't even show up until after he roars? Does this mean we won't even be able to skip it by typing quickly? Argh!
Actually those are the new graphics they upgraded em again in cata
So you never participated in the new content in Wotlk ...
There is a difference between the character models ... and the world and certainly effects you see in game.
Perhaps joinging a pitched Siege battle in Wintergrasp could help you out. At times you can hardly see anything around you from the fire and smoke effects.
It might be just a login screen, but it has already more than 620 000 views in Youtube.
That sounds ridiculously close to suggesting there should be some flexibility in the game, which we know took another hit with the 401 patch... being able to choose from multiple screens would simply be too confusing and hard.
On the other hand, the roaring dragon is annoying - being able to select from different login screens might be pretty damn nifty.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

To hear, in the video, the collective nerdgasm over some login screen...priceless!
At this point Blizz could try selling shit in a box and there'd be people buying it.
Meh, looks nice I guess
I'm feeling facetious. Don't mind me. Passing through.
Ugh not to get defensive or anything but the misinformed comments about this everywhere really annoy me...
The sound is bad because this has been filmed off the screen at the presentation... there is NO BASS.
This is the level of graphics to be seen in Cataclysm. There's another video where the devs dismantle this login screen and show that it is entirely rendered within the game engine. The old textures have not been updated but the new ones do look like this.
For some reason ignorant comments regarding those two points are springing up everywhere...
And yes it is just a login screen, hehe, but this is WoW... news sites report something everytime Blizzard lets out a sigh. :S I agree with the poster that mentioned being tired of having a roaring dragon on the login screen though... I'd have rather seen the maelstrom or something to be honest.
I think Candlejack has something to say about all of this.
I missed out on the frosty dragon, but other people have complained about it. I bet there's a way to speed up the process, or at least when you start typing it wi
That's cool I guess.
Not very creative though, but no supprise there either. The WoW team just plain sucks at creativity these days and/or scared to try something new, because of the game's strict fan base...
Honestly it showing a part of A GAME that SOME PEOPLE enjoy,I bet any of use would be slightly excited to see a login screen/graphics/anything of a GAME we enjoy, thats coming out very soon. Lol imo I think most of the hate WoW garners these days, is the fanbois who cant stop compairing other MMOs to it.
Heh, agreed.
Do you play this game and if so why? As much as you are on here bitching about everything Blizzard does I find it hard to believe you have actually played it enough to know what the hell yorur talking about.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
Um, many of use used the GLUE folder in the Interface (not Interface/addons) folder to replace the roaring Lich King login screen. I personally went with the classic.
So, yes, I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. Because after they "fixed" that little tweak I know mute my system until after I login because I'm tired of almost blowing my speakers out; the dragon-roar is far louder than anything else ingame...it's like the freaking TV commercials that blast you out the couch.
I do sincerely hope they allow us the customize the login...I already have "A Call to Arms" as the music for the login screen.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising everytime we fall.
So this is what is news now? a log in screen?
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
My thoughts exactly. I was suprised to see this thread on the front page when I came here. I dont think I have ever seen somebody post a log in screen before.
Meh, kind of a lame news story to be honest. I mean it's neat looking and all, but not really news worthy... must have been a slow news day...
As for the people talking about the login 'roar' - I too wish they would let us select a different screen (like say a static picture version) or at the very least allow us to disable the sound on that screen. Always having to remember to mute/unmute my speakers at that point gets a bit tiresome.
I mean how hard would it be to give us a check box with 'Disable Login Screen Sound'?
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Why am I playing right now? Resubbed for a month to see how bad the 401 changes were.
Played Vanilla for 14 months. Crusade for 13 months. Lich King for 6 months (not counting this month since I just started again last Thursday after cancelling again in June).
I only have four 80s - spend a lot of time in BGs as opposed to suffering alt-itis. This weekend I took my Warrior from 47 to 62.
For those 80s:
Warlock - 93 days, 20 hours of /played.
Shaman - 37 days, 22 hours of /played.
Paladin - 27 days, 2 hours of /played.
Death Knight - 11 days, 3 hours of /played.
The Warrior is currently sporting 5 days, 15 hours of /played.
I enjoyed Vanilla. Crusade saw me breaking the level 40 deletion I had been going through previously (lol, still do to an extent - where I normally delete an alt in the 30-40 range) to level the Shammy and Pally from 1-70 after getting the Lock to 70. Lich King saw almost no play because it took no time to get those three characters from 70-80 and then the DK from 55-80. I started the Warrior and then figured nah...not worth it.
So do I complain about the direction that Blizzard has taken with WoW? Yes, I do. Do I do it without actually playing the game? Nope. I've been back for each expansion. I'm there with this major patch.
As to the login screen...yep, the annoying sound was fresh in my mind as somebody posted this... but thanks for trying and showing you care so much.

Heh, good reason.
