We obviously have a different philosophy... I guess the only way that you could avoid becoming DnL's first troll is to mix in a few positives when posting about the game, that way you will at least appear objective and genuinely interested
PS: I think your ok at the moment, you haven't said anything that bad, but nothing that good either
This game has the potential to be the best MMORPG in the industry. I can't wait until this game releases. I only hope they are able to obtain a large enough population to fill their 1 Big World concept.
I'm certain they can hit thier target of 65k people no problem, considering the game has 200k beta applications with little to no advertising, it should be relatively easy to hit that number.
why does this thread have to be turned into a war? its obvious we aren't convincing anybody to play the game through this "nuh-uh ur wrong!" approach. and quite honestly, i don't want to be playing next to the type of people who look past some nice features and don't play a game because its graphics aren't so advanced its designed to run on technology that won't be around for years.
great points about this game
-smart Mobs >migrating >travel in packs >humanoids can form encampments and attack nearby cities
-huge world >real to life terrain >actual living breathing ecosystem >exploration as a job >interesting travel options (DoDos, shield sledding, dragon riding)
-tech >one persistent world >server cluster run >live updating
-player run cities >actual player run politics system
-Alignment v Alignment pvp >fortress seiges
-Complex crafting system >depends on weather, location, constellations, etc.
-two branches of levelling; SxP and FxP
bad points about this game
-bad graphics/animation (not confirmed, not final, matter of opinion)
-lack of content (not final)
-world too huge, empty of players (can't know until goes gold, matter of opinion)
-generic fantasy setting
-class/level based instead of skill based
please feel free to let me know how i can update that list on either side
Sure I can add some stuff. But you pretty much got it all down. Also from what I noticed some of these things could result, but not confirmed until I can experience it myself.
Good Things
-Extreme games(Shield Sledding, Dragon riding)
Bad Things (You didnt have enough of these, none are final but they should give some notable conjection why a person might not like the game)
-Class Inbalance(Warrior must get a multitude of stats to compete while others can specialize... Same thing that happens in 90% of mmo's out today
-Genericness (Classes, Style[medieval Fantasy], Races) This will probably bring on some negative features from other mmos (Level grinding, player types [Tank, Damage Dealer, Healer] which leads to initial expectation)
While i very rarely agree with Fadeus, i don't think you should be too hard on him.
I mean come on - that newsletter 2 beta video was fairly atrocious. I know it was on a low spec machine but that's just bad PR strategy on the part of the dev team. Videos and screenshots are the "soundbites" of a game's pre-release. Its wise to release something that people will remember (in a good way!)
Secondly the combat sytem does unfortunately seem like the old tired mmorpg clicknpoint system. Thirdly classes rather than skill based characters are a disapointment.
So DnL ain't perfect but it promises much much more than EQ2/WoW provide! As i have said before it will be one of the first of the second generation mmorpgs. Others will take what DnL does and refine it. But hopefully in 6 years we'll all have fond memories of DnL

Thank you, thats all I asked, to be able to say I didn't like it and not get a bunch of people tearing me up over it. Thank you very much stav1, I appreciate it.
And for all the DnL fans, I do really hope the game comes out to be what everyone hopes.

Do I have really have to repeat this one more time. The devs actually had courage and the guts to put out a video taken on a low-spec machine with low details. I applaud them on that, no matter how horrible it looks.
Have you seen any game do that 5+ months before it's release? Not many, if any at all. They all try to make the game look all shiny and graphically pleasing, taken in the most famous and eye-catching areas. Not to mention with camera modes you will never use in-game.
Read this carefully. The video was NOT an AD, nor was it supposed to be graphically pleasing, nor was it supposed to show you the best features of the game, nor was it supposed to make you love the game.

Xzaro - you dont have to repeat anything. Neither Fadeus or myself are stupid.
Simply, a video released publicly is an advert- perhaps you can't see that through your rose-tinted glasses. You say the video was not intended to be very much - why release it publicly then?
In the real world, releasing that kind of video is PR suicide not courage.

Thank you Stav1. Xzaro, I don't know what your issue is with anyone that doesn't seem to like the video or feel it was a positive aspect of DnL's marketting but I suggest you start accepting others opinions on this and stop trying to make everyone think like you do. We didn't like it, obviously you did, congratulations on that but do not try to push down our throats that we have to see it your way. Dont' even try to say your not because you are, and your getting out of hand about it at this point. I suggest you cool yourself down and take a break from here for an hour, day, or whatever you need and realize that I don't have to like every game you do, and you don't have to like games I play either.
Right now stav1 is making complete sense to me and all your appearing as is someone that can't accept anything other then raving kudo's for the video.

DnL is 7 months from release. I dont see the video as an ad but a current status of the *BETA* it's in.
If I want to see ads I will open up a PC Gamer Mag and see a 6 page fold on EQ2 or WoW or other finished games. Also...
No game has blatantly advertised 7 months prior to release..*Officially* to my knowledge.
I still stick to my original prediction of this thread because given the current state of DnL (which is awesome to me) 7 months of more tweaking and peaking WILL give the *current* high runners a run for the money, no doubt!
But until we see DnL in it's released state we CANNOT compare it to EQ2,WoW, Ect until then...
It's like comparing an Apple seed with a ripe apple..Which would taste better?

Depends whom you ask. If you ask a bird the answer would in most cases be the seed, and if you ask a worm the answer would be the apple. But then the still hungry bird would no doubt try to eat the fat worm.
I just hope they are spending 7 months tweaking the game and refining it. I sincerely hope we get a game in Nov that blows us all away rather than something that is still half-finished and rushed out.
But i do agree, i think DnL is raising the bar while its still in development. Other devs will have to sit up and take note that DnL's popularity is due to the fact the mmorpg playing public are beginning to demand something a bit more innovative and deep.
I've been waiting for this game for over 3 years now. I simply cannot wait for this to hit the shelves. I think at release, it won't do as phenominal as WoW did, but after a week when the reviews come out, and the word of mouth spreads, people will be all over this game.
I predict this game becomes the next big thing in the industry. At least I hope. Game looks fantastic.

Every new game has its promises. Some promises do live up to its epxection but some do not. I'm not going to start naming them.
I'm still doing my own little research on DnL. But the basic question still remains to be answered. What is so revolutionary and new (as a few people have described) about DnL that other MMOs do not have? Set aside graphics. Although in my opinion, Graphics isnt bad nor good. It's just too realistic for my taste. WoW on the other hand is too cartoony for my likings. Pls don't take this the wrong way. I'm just expressing my concern.

Ive given up in promises that the company is making. after that whole WoW stuff, promises are what they are... promises. most of the time the company expects you to pay them 15$ a month so they can put out those promises later.

Another one that has no clue about the game...Just wants to compare to another (WoW) from his experience without even bothering to investigate the knowledge base AND elaborating on all aspects.
Then again it takes a lower intelligence to say "WoW promised it so other games must be da same, no danks".
If your outlook and promises are based solely from a current MMO then you have no business here yapping your yap without facts and/or gameplay experience.
