Waaa who cares? Devs can let whoever they want into beta. How would you feel if you worked on a project and a bunch of cry babies you don't know whined when you let your best friends get first dibs on experiencing it?

Holy over dramatic mmo gamers Batman.
I dont know, this kind of entitlement seems pretty common amonsgt mmo gamers and gamers in general.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling" Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
I was like.. "Man that's an interesting headline."
But then I was like...
TROLLED!
Whatever happened to real scandals? Remember when the main producer for that one game.. Hero's Journey I think, got in trouble for inviting housewives trolling his forums to his house for some adult beta testing? All hearsay, but still. All that 'outrage' over beta testing a korean grind game?
honestly i don't care about this whole psycho bablle conspiracy/corruption theory my big beef with PWE is that there are those of us who have had our beta keys accepted and in for months who simply got passed over, dismissed and or diregarded during selection for phase 1. I am one of those people. and i am still fuming that pwe won't even listen or hear this simple fact. hell i even placed in a ticket about it and more or less was told in a round about way we don't care tough luck kind of attitude. so needless to say if pwe has gone down this path or chosen to go down the path they have i see them going either a out of business or b losing 90 percent of it's player database. that just a prediction.
Well, it appears I will have to say it one more time.
The instances you mentioned were for LIVE games. In this instance, people are complaining about not getting into CLOSED BETA because they feel like their selection process was unfair. The company said it was going to be random and some guild got in that wasn't part of the random process.
It is their CLOSED BETA. They are able to select whoever they want, however they want. The perception that this is somehow unfair is ridiculous. Other guilds do not have some right to be in the closed beta.
The guilds then go on to say that this selection process represents favoritism. I agree. They allowed those players that they felt would help their CLOSED BETA process work more effectively. They would like the people in that guild to help them test their CLOSED BETA.
The players apparently fear that this favoritism is going to follow into live. Until it happens, they have done nothing out of the ordinary whatsoever. I can "fear" anything I want to. It doesn't make those fears valid or invalid. My opinion is that their fears are completely invalid based this being a CLOSED BETA experience. They have every right to chose whomever they please.
Fear it when it actually happens on a live server. Until then, settle down.
While yes it is closed beta and the company reserves the right to invite whoever they want there are a couple issues that raise red flags here. (going strictly by what i have been able to dig up)
1. Other peoples guilds (possibly with more experience testing and playing PWE games) were told no because they wanted to keep closed beta selections impartial.
2. If you are going to tell the community you are going to be random about invites closed beta or otherwise it's poor judgement and looks extremely bad to turn around and not be impartial without putting something like: "We are going to be selecting random individuals to our closed beta testing there will however be some guilds invited to test our guild functionality." Communication with the community you want to be playing and spending money on your game is important. If they are (and i stress the IF) showing a certain guild favoritism no one can say for sure that it won't carry over to live servers, they have successfully created doubt and fear amongst the community theat they want to play the game.
I understand it is closed beta and they can invite whoever they want what really happened here is a PR mistake they should have informed the community better. The bitching and QQ is over the top on this but in some ways is justified by lack of communication of intentions by PWE.
This is probably the dumbest complaint I've ever heard. Beta testing is entirely at the discretion of the game company. They don't have to have some kind of fair handout. They don't have to beta at all. We've created a really weird culture about beta tests.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.
10 years ago Beta Test meant 500-1000 people testing, dedicated. You had to know someone or be really active in their forums or past games. No one complained if they didn't get in beta. Now you have sites like MMORPG giving away 3000+ keys for F2P betas, and people complain because they didn't get on the first phase. This isn't corruption. It's life.
I understand sompe people may be vested in other PWE games and feel they deserve a spot, or that the public relations did a terrible job. It's one guild of 50 people for a huge game. Will you really let that ruin your fun when it goes live? The game is F2P, you don't pay for the game. Play it and never use the cash shop. If cash shop is 100% required at end game, and they are giving out items to their favorite guild, then stop playing and don't pay anything into the stop. It's really as simple as that. Unless one of the guildies was entirely stupid you would never know if they were giving away free cash shop items anyway.

Problem is that in past PWE betas, iirc, if you had a key you were in. PWI, BOI, JD, every beta until FW that I've seen. Full stop.
And the second problem is, they didn't tell you upfront that even a key didn't guarantee you access to the first CB.
Even Square-Enix had the cajones to tell you UPFRONT that a key to the FF14 beta did not guarantee access there.
Alas, I watched every MMO site, and some gave away keys to CB1. Glad I was lucky.

Felt the same way. This is nothing.
Make games you want to play.

If this weren't a game in beta, maybe more people would care...maybe.

I think the big news is that PWE had any credibility to begin with.
