To all those wondering...do not put it past a company to hire models. Any company knows 'sex' sells and if you can "excite" the male population they'll buy just about anything if they think it'll get them some ass.

Do you really believe this girls play/care/know about video games?
I believe the ugly girls or nerdy looking girls in this video play the game. But a lot of these girls look like hired models to me.
So your rationale for girls cosplaying at a convention are as follows:
Ugly = fangirl Hot = hired model
Really? You are saying that an attractive girl cannot enjoy gaming? That is a ridiculous generalisation on the face of it, and it likely to hurt the feelings of girls like myself that play video games almost obsessively and have a decent body image. This sort of attitude enrages me. I have done this very thing (cosplay, not WoW cosplay, blech), and I am certainly not fat, and I do not think I am ugly. Perhaps I could get someone to pay me to dress like an elf and have fun pretending for a few hours, but it is something I do because I enjoy working on a costume and I enjoy other people seeing what I have worked to create. I enjoy bringing a small part of the fantasy world into the real world for a time.
You sound like a male saying all girls who play games must be ugly. What does that say about your experiences socialising outside of games, or inside of games, and if this ridiculous idea were true, what does that mean for your future with women. Do you resign yourself to living with an ugly girl, or one who does not share your passion, hmm?
I assume only fat and hideous boys who have pimples and live with their mother can play games as well.
Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you people that think this way?
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it." Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
You guys are being very judgmental and very harsh. Since I work for a gaming company, I can tell you from first hand experience that there are all different types of gamers, and this includes women as well. Fat, skinny, very cute, very hot, not so cute, not so hot, and everything in-between.
Gamers are just like everybody else and to assume they are all fat, nasty looking is thinking narrow mindedly. Furthermore, you should be judging the COSTUMES and not the people wearing them.
I will never understand the naivety of gamers, I wonder if it is because they spend so much time vegitating infront of a PC and not actually sampling the big bad world outside.
This costume competition like all the others is nothing more than a publicity stunt, now if you want to believe that all wow female gamers look like this and spend all that time creating these costumes then go for it. Us in the real world know that a large percentage of these are models paid up by Blizzard to attract the lens and the nerd reporters, it's all good PR.
Tralak, dude you must not get out much because I've encountered plenty of good looking women that play video games either console or pc. It seems you simply choose to base your opinion off of your limited encounters and basically stereotype people who play video games as a short, overweight kids with bad acne. I'm not trying to bash you, but dude it's kinda hard when you say something stupid like that. Haven't you ever heard the saying, "You can't judge a book by its cover."?
Maybe it's cause you're young or not a social person, but just because someone looks like a particular stereotype doesn't mean they are and I have several friends to prove that. My friend Lou looks like one of the dudes on that show Jersey Shore, but the guy is an encyclopedia of Star Wars knowledge, he's read every book written about the series. My friend's sister is a hot hair dresser and kind of a girly girl, but she is hardcore into shooter games and dedicates her time off to skrim with her clan in ranked clan matches. I mean just because you have never encountered a good looking gamer doesn't nessecarily mean they don't exist, it just means you aren't looking or you just don't care to that's all I'm sayin.
You were right man!! I tried to get out of my basement and was scaaaaary!! Once i did, i saw PLENTY OF GOOD LOOKING WOMEN like this (average gamer) walking and playing laptops in the streets! too bad was for a short time as a rain of strawberry juice was forming..
It's amazing how video games spoil us with women with huge breats: most of those cosplayers are above pretty and only two had the breasts to fill their costumes AND look beautiful.
I don't think that Blizzard hired anyone to be in their costume contest. Two reasons:
They don't have to. Simply spread the word that their is a costume contest (translation: beauty contest) and they will come to compete. Some are going because they know of someone that plays WoW and they are just there for attention and the competition.
COS PLAY. A lot of people that are involved in cos play have ZERO knowledge of the game itself other than the look and design of the characters. It's all about the dress up. Like some women who attend Ren fairs simply to dress the part.
For those who think that the majority of those women are either professional models... or that more than 70% of those women actually play the game... you are both delusional. We are on page .. *scrolls down* page 8 at the moment and only a few women have chimed in. That gives an idea of the ratio of male to female gamers that we already knew was out of wack. When are guys going to realize, you are more than likely not going to find your dream girl playing a video game.
tl;dr - A good portion of these girls are not hired and do not play the game.
A small percentage of girls dressed up are hired models. However many of the girls were actual players, and dressed up for fun. If you don't believe it go to Blizzcon and talk to the girls, if you actually can talk to girls and not just talk about them here.
The world is a strange place if u think about it....
Few years bk u saw all sort of persons dressing up for Startrek conventions and they normally did not revive nice words from the masses for doing so....but now it seems to be all right to dress up like game characters.......
I just cant get the hang of stuff like that leave the game where it belongs in the game and at least try to get a real live outside of games....sure some of them were nice to look at not denying that but still
Maybe i am alone with my opinion maybe i just cant go with the time i dunno but if i see a person who is not payed for dressing up like that running around in there game costumes my first thought is poor thing she/he should get help
What does him playing a game have to do with what he comented on? Thats exactly why he said what he said. Leave it in the game. Yea I like looking at hot chicks, but give me a break. I'd stay away from any one so oppsessed as these poor young things are.

No thanks.

Some of the costumes were amazing. Very detailed, cute, and authentic. I don't know where the "winners" costume was from.
Some look like they made it the morning of Blizzcon.
Quite a variation of people too. I like the night elf with the blue hair <.< because of the blue hair. One of these days, I'll hafta do that.
Does WoW have 50% female players?
Why are you posting a pic of my wife,Olivia Munn, on here!?!?
Seriously though,I'd say the only women who are models in that video, that I would put money on,are the 2 Blonde's in the OP's pic.
lol these chicks aren't models, they're all "regular" girls actually dressing up.
The reason why most of em aren't that hot.
If you ask me. They aren't even "regular".
Dumb - I actually went to high school with one of the girls in the video - and definitely not anything close to a model and is a big WoW fanatic.

WTF? No subscription fee?
After you have posted on yet another cynical MMORPG.com thread you can always come here and get away from it all with cosplay babes.

On a second though.. I never really wanted gamer girl, they look a bit creepy :P
As one poster above me stated, lots of these girls are hired by blizzard... sex sells!

OK so we see all the booth babes and a few fan girls.
Now how about a video of all the drooling fat guys waddling through the ailses taping the booth broads to put into their spank banks?
On second thought, I don't want to see that, not even for the laugh factor. OK how about more booth candy!
I do, I am, so yes I think girl do.

Any woman can feel free, at any given moment, to start hating all men here. Or boys, whatever they may be.

Congratulations to all of the participants who got posted on MMORPG.com!
And... Guys, keep passing up the women who you don't see as "Hot" or "Skinny".
We rational men who like a really diverse dating pool thank you!
