On Tuesday, October 26th, LEGO Universe officially launched. MMORPG.com's Carolyn Koh has a 'first look' for you today that goes over several aspects of the game: Character creation, first steps, objectives, tips, tutorials and more. Check out Carolyn's thoughts about her first experiences in LEGO Universe.
LEGO Universe is a game designed for “kids of all ages” and modeled on previous LEGO video games in looks and controls. I’ve seen a lot of the game and have had quite a bit of hands-on time with the higher levels, so this was my first experience starting from ground zero. Netdevil has made LEGO Universe an interactive experience from the get-go. An animated mini-fig is there to greet you when you log in and covers its eyes when you type in your password. Cute.

I have loved the Lego console games. I played this game in beta. I'll stick with the console games. (the console game developer is not Net Devil, I know)
I've spent more time in Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman than I spent playing this game and seeing all that there was to see (besides mindlessly grinding gear). Granted, the game is fun and there is a TON of potential. Someday I may very well buy it and give it another shot, but when one weekend was enough for me to experience the entire game, I decided to pass and wait.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Don't feel alone, the camera movement also makes me sick. I am 58 years old and have had some problems in my youth with motion sickness. The camera movement is the only thing keeping me from buying this game, after having tried it in beta.
I can understand WhiteLantern's viewpoint., especially because of Beta play. There is a bit of grind before you can advance to the other worlds where the action is more fierce. There is a lot of going back and forth between worlds during initial quests. I didn't see the point of this until I realized that every time I went back to a world I "saw" more ... for example, once I was able to earn a pet ... and then earned the right to have the pet dig up treasure for me ... I remembered where I had seen some treasure chests buried in the ground. I went back and was surprised that the pet dug up a platform for me to jump on that took me to a higher level of pet to tame. Also by having learned the areas where coins are earned the fastest, I have been able to advance without any "drag time".
The Gnarly Forest car race is unbelievable. You have to make decisions very very quickly so that you don't get blown up by an explosive barrel that wasn't in that position the last lap ... while you are racing between 90-117 mph ... while also trying to score flags, energy blips, and mega energy squares. There is not just one race track, either. You have to find out, for yourself, which way is fastest or most dangerous (sharp corners). Oh, by the way, you can't even get to the race track (it isn't on the map) until you earn the Captain's hook and then use that hook (with the proper amount of imagination blips) to build a pole which has a Indiana Jones-ish rope attached. It really gave me a feeling of satisfaction when I landed in this new area and realized that I had found the race track.
Lego Universe is a game of problem solving and quick thinking. I don't know about a kid but my brain is definitely getting a workout. I believe that I have already gotten more fun out of this game (paid for) than I have a lot of the others.
I am beginning to think that I prefer to spend money for a game and pay a monthly subscription than I like the so-called "free to play" games that I pay a monthly subscription fee and then am "nickel and dimed" to death buying items that I need to advance. You can't earn what you need through playing. I haven't seen anything in Lego Universe that I have to pay for extra. I have been able to earn everything I need through playing.
Once I realized that going back and forth between worlds and NPCs is how I am going to get a "tool" then I relaxed and am enjoying how the game unfolds ... the brillance of the game developer's brains. For me, the way any game unfolds is very interesting.
Leemebe u made my mind up on this , i had that problem in rappelz .
10 hours played time for: all worlds visited, all flags and imagination bricks collected, all pets tamed, dragon slain.
18 hours played time: enough tokens and coins grinded for buying complete rank 3 set.
No worth 40$ for a weekend tour through Lego Universe. Period.
Is there any form of in game chat? My son keeps saying he would like to try this game but the wife will not allow it.
Chat is very censored you cant say anything that has any sort of word that is rude or naughty and it dousent show up.

"The name creation is via choice of pre-screened words or you can submit a name for moderation."
So I can't use my regular name "Penus McLargehuge?"
All in all, I think I'd rather play Minecraft.
There's just not enough content. The hubby and I finished the game in 2 days during beta. The personal property is fun, but needs....more. Just not worth the price of the game. =(
I thought it was a fun game in beta, and my kids really enjoyed it. I am not one to sit and play for a long time at once, so it probably lasted me a lot longer than it would a real gamer-- 18 hours is a couple of weeks for me, not a weekend. Maybe it will have some content updates, though.
I didn't have any problems with motion sickness in this one, oddly enough. That's a major concern for me with games, since my motion sickness is usually pretty severe, and has put me off of some other games that I enjoyed otherwise. I guess I just got lucky.
I cant find any info on this on Lego's own hp.
But I need to know if non english speaking kids, can play this game.. Are there any quest that i as a parent will have to translate ect.
Darkboaz, the words you can use in the in game chat is from a dictionary of allowed words. Any words not on the list will not show up in the chat box, so players cannot circumvent "Black Lists" by typing "Fook" or "sh!t" for example.

Interesting viewpoint. I think Halo Reach cost me $70 and had about 8 hours of gameplay, Call of Duty: Modern Combat 1 and 2, both $60 each, and about 10 hours a piece.
So $40 for 20 hours of gameplay is cheaper than other titles and you don't have to sub if you don't want to (game doesn't take a credit card when you register an account with a key).
Can always resub later for $10 if/when new content is added.
Likewise the game is more than just the story content, it's also the custom buildings on your property and other tools. collecting sets and achievenets for all 4 classes etc etc. Probably not the best game if you just want to play straight through content and you're an avid MMO gamer already. For the 8-12 crowd it's a better deal, took my 11 year old about 30+ hours to get all the Tier 3 gear for one class, and he hasn't done all the quests yet (probably %90 of them).
That is good to know had wondered how a game that was targeting a younger audience would deal with chat if it had one.
You think lego and you think... building things, not hitting them.
I am so going to get this game. I like creative games with problem solving. I like buiding things and customizing stuff.
Can I make a ship, like a pirate ship or something? What is the coolest things that you can make in the game?
English and German is support right now. More will come later.
The quests text is typical 5-10 words long and also contains graphics and icons that gives away what you need to do. Many times the camera will guide you towards the objective, so even without being able to read English or German you can complete many quests.
How good is your Imagination?
I was put of the Lego solo games for ages because of the graphics. Then some friends told me that they played, you won't get over the odd look, I still think its a strange IP to bring to the screen. But the game play is solid, can't speak to much for the online version but it seems similar in concept.
From the gameplay videos I've seen, it looks like somebody took a LEGO game in the same vein of LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Batman, or LEGO Indianna Jones, and crossed it with World of Warcraft. So basically your running around whacking enemies in the style of those classic LEGO games but doing it in the name of progressing through various quest hubs with NPCs sporting exclaimation points above their head.
It looks quite high quality, but somebody said they pretty much exhausted the content in 18 hours. Sounds like it's something they should have gone F2P with.
It sounds cool but also sounds easy to get through the content they provide. So I think a lot of it will depend on the players. It would be awesome to have race tracks and things like rollecoasters made by players.
i hope there will be one week trial
Thx..
Just what me and my son needed to know.
