The only point you seem to be making is the CU doesnt bother you. Here's a novel idea. Pretend you arent the emperor/emperess of the world and that other people have expressed their sincere sorrow and disapointment that their character and thousands of playing hours will be destroyed for nothing. Just because you dont care doesnt mean noone else has the right to, stating that it doesnt bother you, shows you place a great importance on your position far and beyond what it actually is. Meanwhile I was expressing a common problem that effects thousands of people thats been talked about and discussed constantly in the SWG forums. Are you honestly so deluded that you believe most people who have 20+ warehouses full of resources wouldnt care and they have NO right to be upset over it?

I was only speaking about the DEV team being the worse as an opinion. I dont have hard facts to back that up and admittingly so. Im sure someone probably has a worse experience in another game. But from my experience if you look at the body of distrust and anger on the SWG forums, recently with the new CU and the last big uproad back in the winter/spring of 2003 (when the first DEV purge happened). An argument could be made that few games has such a confrontational DEV/Player relationship. Name another official game forum that deletes/bans/locks forums probably 1 a minute? Name one that does that or worse?
Erillion, you also like to claim how the poll means nothing. True polls can be subjective but lets turn it around and you claim that few people post Pro CU cause their happy and content. In your honest belief, lets say the DEVS, called off the CU because of pressure from the playerbase. Do you honestly believe that you'd see even half? of the number of posts with people demanding the CU be reinstated? Unless you are delusional you know damn well, the forums would be FLOODED with people crying in relief and the few people who demand the CU back would be just drowned out.

Thanks Erillion for the quick reply and info. Im looking forward to getting the Total Experience package which will be out in a month. I really enjoyed the game when I first played but I felt as if the game wasnt finished at launch and a lot of changes were going on every week to try balance the classes so I thought Id try again in a year...well its been 2 so Im long overdue heh. So now I stick to my current MMORPG until my subscription ends and then Ill be picking up SWG again.

#1 The CU is driving away veteran players, its killing professions, when a fix is needed and not a complete rewrite of the game 2 years after the fact.

Seems like the only time the "powers that be" ever get involved with the community it is to either fix what isn't broken, break what needs to be fixed, ban players, or delete posts.
If you used to play SWG and are thinking of coming back.....AVOID it like the Plague. The so-called "combat-upgrade" is a lie and a travesty. It's not an upgrade to the combat. To be honest, it's not an upgrade at all. if you ask me, it's a downgrade. They didn't make an attempt at just upgrading the combat, they tried to upgrade the whole game. I'm a veteran player. I've been playing for a long time, and thus I have seen the game go through MANY changes. I've been there for all the biggies. So, I'm not just saying this because I don't like change. Change is GREAT! Just about anythign and everything would eventually suck if there were no change. That's a fact in my book. But what they've done with this CU has truly wrecked the entire game. I've tried now for several hours to find something about the game that I still like...and it's mostly wrecked and/or gone. I like to group with people when I play m ost of the time, but sometimes, I lilke to just og out and solo. They've now taken that ability away from me. I'll be cancelling all of my accounts (8 of them to be exact). Shame on the DEVs. They don't care about what the players want..all they care about is the almighty buck. Tell me why they had all of the chat rooms moderated so that no one could chat when they were doing the big cut over... I'll tell you why...because they knew how much players would hate the CU and they didn't want them getting each other all riled up and quitting and whatnot. If you're providing a good product to your customers, that's not something you should have to worry about. And to top it off, they pushed this thing early while it was still STOCK FULL of KNOWN bugs. Why? you ask? Because...ROTW (expansion) is due to come out soon..and so's the movie. And they want to get this crap done regardless of their current players so that the noobs that will inevitabley be brought in from the movie will not notice a difference, all at the cost of their current customer base. SOE...I have defended you for years. NOW...I have lost all respect for you and you have lost a good deal of money just from this player alone.
And in closing....YES..this will be SWG's demise. Mark my words.
You've got two nice games there man, EVE and SWG... i played eve, got to about 100mil isk but i left , lack of housing, char customisation was what got me.
SWG offers almost everything that eve offers, if you play with the lightspeed expansion... but in eve you cant land on a planet, and actually explore it
do whatever you want man! youll have swg fans wholl tell you to go back, and youll have partycrashers like the dudes here telling ya SWG is nothing compared to WOW

Well ... checked out the game after combat upgrade patch ...
A) profession check ... OK .. same as before
b) weapons .. check .. can still use Master pistoleer pistol (I am a crafter fighter hybrid .. have combat level 60 out of a possible 80). Weapon does 412 dps ... sounds ok !
c) Armor .. not certified for composite armor anymore .. no prob .. right click on armor .. change to Marauder armor (you can do this once in the first 2 weeks after the patch) .. e voila ... back into armor with recon armor which I CAN use.
d) Go outside .. shoot some easy stuff ... one shot kills .. no problem. Encountered one undefeatable animal baby ... send in /bug report (it could not damage me anyway). Walked into house, it ran away.
e) Driving around countryside ... some animal cons are wacky (Enraged Kimogila .. one is level 13, one is level 133 ... max should be 80 .. send in bug report). But 95 % of it look OK. Hey, some Canyon Corsairs .. level 45 ... not bad .. I hit them .. killable as before, but takes longer (they regenerate pretty fast and I cant spam my specials anymore).
Overall combat is easier than before because I essentially start with 2100 health now (out of possible 3000 for full blown fighters) and can take on the corsairs without a buff from a doc (YEAH !).
Had to go to work then .. so more later when I am back into the game (and already saw that they are hotfixing this and that already).
So what alot of you are saying is, you hate change and you want no challenge?
Ok, have fun with your other games...where things change and there's a challenge. Unless of course you're playing WoW.
Sorry couldn't help myself with the jab at Blizz...crappy MMO or not they still made starcraft so that counts for something in my book just not with MMOs.

So far, so good with the CU. I hope this isn't SWG's demise, because it seems as if they DO have a working combat system.
People just need to adjust to it, and it's understandable that they're having that adjustment forced upon them causing them to complain. I totally understand that. But, I was able to do what I wanted to do with no hassles, and no need to buff. Less composite armor clones, too. That's all I ask.
b) weapons . check .. Nice, can't use my weapons anymore, only a silly scout blaster, I do 170 dmg now instead of my 1400 which I did before cu, VERY BAD!
c) Armor .. Changed my composite into ubese, not a big problem
d) Go outside .. shoot some easy stuff ... Only minor worrts die in one shot, worrts in 2 or 3 and I get incapped by mutant womp rat
e) Did a 1k mission, was super easy before CU, now I only hurt the guys for 10% and then get incapped
Im glad all the l33t doodz are leaving SWG for games like Wow or whatever they wanna play... SWG was too easy before the update, and i see this change as an awsome way to give SWG more depth, and a longer-lasting appeal. People said they played swg for 2-3 months, but didnt see the challenge anymore... that wont be the case since maxing out skills will take that much longer now.
I just pre ordered the rage of wookies expansion... damn good deal... BOTH jump to lightspeed and rage of wookies for 24$

An argument could be made that few games has such a confrontational DEV/Player relationship. Name another official game forum that deletes/bans/locks forums probably 1 a minute? Name one that does that or worse?
Erillion, you also like to claim how the poll means nothing. True polls can be subjective but lets turn it around and you claim that few people post Pro CU cause their happy and content.
In your honest belief, lets say the DEVS, called off the CU because of pressure from the playerbase. Do you honestly believe that you'd see even half? of the number of posts with people demanding the CU be reinstated? Unless you are delusional you know damn well, the forums would be FLOODED with people crying in relief and the few people who demand the CU back would be just drowned out.

So every issue you've ever been outspoken about you have known intimately well exactly how do to their job? Or you've never voiced or expressed a problem with anyone or anything in your life?

Hate SOE, hardly my only experience with SOE is SWG, of course thats not a good experience so far. As for SOE for EQ, EQII and other games, who's to say if their any good or not. I dont know, ive never encountered them as they may be the same company but entirely different development teams.
As for hard games I welcome hard games, none of my cristicm dealt with the game being more difficult, just the heavy handed nature of the DEV team and their lack of real vision and direction. #1 The CU is driving away veteran players, its killing professions, when a fix is needed and not a complete rewrite of the game 2 years after the fact.
#2 You stated clearly that unless i was a coder i clearly have no idea of what im talking about. CU came out today and it sux GOOD MUTHUF*****G JOB SoE u suck!!!!!!
If you used to play SWG and are thinking of coming back.....AVOID it like the Plague. The so-called "combat-upgrade" is a lie and a travesty. It's not an upgrade to the combat. To be honest, it's not an upgrade at all. if you ask me, it's a downgrade. They didn't make an attempt at just upgrading the combat, they tried to upgrade the whole game. I'm a veteran player. I've been playing for a long time, and thus I have seen the game go through MANY changes. I've been there for all the biggies. So, I'm not just saying this because I don't like change. Change is GREAT! Just about anythign and everything would eventually suck if there were no change. That's a fact in my book. But what they've done with this CU has truly wrecked the entire game. I've tried now for several hours to find something about the game that I still like...and it's mostly wrecked and/or gone. I like to group with people when I play m ost of the time, but sometimes, I lilke to just og out and solo. They've now taken that ability away from me. I'll be cancelling all of my accounts (8 of them to be exact). Shame on the DEVs. They don't care about what the players want..all they care about is the almighty buck. Tell me why they had all of the chat rooms moderated so that no one could chat when they were doing the big cut over... I'll tell you why...because they knew how much players would hate the CU and they didn't want them getting each other all riled up and quitting and whatnot. If you're providing a good product to your customers, that's not something you should have to worry about. And to top it off, they pushed this thing early while it was still STOCK FULL of KNOWN bugs. Why? you ask? Because...ROTW (expansion) is due to come out soon..and so's the movie. And they want to get this crap done regardless of their current players so that the noobs that will inevitabley be brought in from the movie will not notice a difference, all at the cost of their current customer base. SOE...I have defended you for years. NOW...I have lost all respect for you and you have lost a good deal of money just from this player alone.
And in closing....YES..this will be SWG's demise. Mark my words.

You've got two nice games there man, EVE and SWG... i played eve, got to about 100mil isk but i left , lack of housing, char customisation was what got me.
SWG offers almost everything that eve offers, if you play with the lightspeed expansion... but in eve you cant land on a planet, and actually explore it
do whatever you want man! youll have swg fans wholl tell you to go back, and youll have partycrashers like the dudes here telling ya SWG is nothing compared to WOW
I have been active with swg since beta.. survived the holorgrinds.. the weps bugs and other nasty stuff. rubber banding... sitting in space... and this puke is the worst. I mean how do I allow my fabtasy to go on...

Well ... checked out the game after combat upgrade patch ...
A) profession check ... OK .. same as before
b) weapons .. check .. can still use Master pistoleer pistol (I am a crafter fighter hybrid .. have combat level 60 out of a possible 80). Weapon does 412 dps ... sounds ok !
c) Armor .. not certified for composite armor anymore .. no prob .. right click on armor .. change to Marauder armor (you can do this once in the first 2 weeks after the patch) .. e voila ... back into armor with recon armor which I CAN use.
d) Go outside .. shoot some easy stuff ... one shot kills .. no problem. Encountered one undefeatable animal baby ... send in /bug report (it could not damage me anyway). Walked into house, it ran away.
e) Driving around countryside ... some animal cons are wacky (Enraged Kimogila .. one is level 13, one is level 133 ... max should be 80 .. send in bug report). But 95 % of it look OK. Hey, some Canyon Corsairs .. level 45 ... not bad .. I hit them .. killable as before, but takes longer (they regenerate pretty fast and I cant spam my specials anymore).
Overall combat is easier than before because I essentially start with 2100 health now (out of possible 3000 for full blown fighters) and can take on the corsairs without a buff from a doc (YEAH !).
Had to go to work then .. so more later when I am back into the game (and already saw that they are hotfixing this and that already).

So far, so good with the CU. I hope this isn't SWG's demise, because it seems as if they DO have a working combat system.
People just need to adjust to it, and it's understandable that they're having that adjustment forced upon them causing them to complain. I totally understand that. But, I was able to do what I wanted to do with no hassles, and no need to buff. Less composite armor clones, too. That's all I ask.

c) Armor .. Changed my composite into ubese, not a big problem
d) Go outside .. shoot some easy stuff ... Only minor worrts die in one shot, worrts in 2 or 3 and I get incapped by mutant womp rat
e) Did a 1k mission, was super easy before CU, now I only hurt the guys for 10% and then get incapped

Im glad all the l33t doodz are leaving SWG for games like Wow or whatever they wanna play... SWG was too easy before the update, and i see this change as an awsome way to give SWG more depth, and a longer-lasting appeal. People said they played swg for 2-3 months, but didnt see the challenge anymore... that wont be the case since maxing out skills will take that much longer now.
I just pre ordered the rage of wookies expansion... damn good deal... BOTH jump to lightspeed and rage of wookies for 24$
