patronizing attitude toward WoW

VolkmarVolkmar Member UncommonPosts: 2,501

"Wow is great for newbies to MMorpgs, but real mature MMorpg player plays XXXX"

"Yes, i would advice you WoW as you are new to the genre..."

"WoW is a simple and easy game, great for beginners..."

How many times you have heard such sentences or variation of the same?

I've. a lot. And now i really had enough. so excuse me in advance for the rant.

End it up already with the patronizing "leet" attitude toward a game. So who plays WoW are all stupid newbie? Real "Elite" Gamers plays something else? How bad is that sentence? do people realize that?

I AM a mature Veteran MMorpg player with years of gaming on my shoulder and 27 RL years and i do not recall giving permission to anybody to speak for me. I play WoW.

So, to conlude this silly topic, express your opinions toward a game all you want, but stop generalizing. I assure that it won't remove the aggressiveness nor the sharpness from the posts, it just makes them seems more.... intelligent and less silly.

You do NOT need the imaginary influence of fake millions of people to give credit to your posts. People won't be impressed cause you and "all the mature MMorpg players" have this opinion. They will be impressed by a well written and logic post.

Sorry for the rant

We may not agree on much Volkmar but I definately "got yo back" on this one. Too many times these so called self-proclaimed MMO gurus know the mentality/experience of 1.5 million subscribers? Go figure. ::::12:: But you know what? Most of the time I'm the bigger man about it and just let it roll off my back. I feel like if they want to point people toward WoW to be their first MMO then so be it.

And when their own game comes out and dies a slow horrible death because only the "hardcore" fanboys are playing and WoW player base hits 2.5 million because of all the "recomendations" then who's losing out in the long run?

I've played World of Warcraft, EverQuest, EQ2, Risk Your Life, Asheron's Call, AC2, Star Wars Galaxies, Anarchy Online, Shadowbane, FFX, Ultima Online ... the list goes on.

I have had a lot of fun in WoW.  To me it's not all that different than the other 8 zillion MMORPGs out there.  Not simpler, not more complicated, not a breakthrough, just a good time-waster.

Bliz did SOMETHING right, as WoW has quickly become one of the best-selling games of all time.  It's also ranked #1 almost every day right here at MMORPG.com.

So for those people who post a quick "WoW sucks" message, know this:  you are in the minority on that opinion.

A majority of those saying "WoW is for kids" are twelve year olds trying to sound adult and "in the know"

Me.. I am close to 40 I have 32 years of computer game experience and has played MMOs since second month of Ultima Online, and I think WoW is perfect.. As does my brother who is a computer game programmer in his late thirties and the other programmers on his company together with their boss and owner of that company..

And a lot of the staff working on EQ II who also has revealed that they play WoW in their spare time...

So no, I do not listen to twelve year olds saying WoW is for kids...

oh yes, i agree with you on that as well. That is why i made this rant-topic instead of getting all worked up on all the other gazillions threads where this went on imageimage

The only reason people do point newcomers towards the game (which im surprised no one has stated) is becuase its just so easy. i go to my local lan cafe and everyone plays wow there, some 12 some 25. everyone loves it because its easy. thats why people point out newcomers to WoW (plus it gets irritating to explain that "Your the tank! your supposed to get the enemy to focus on you") so most people who dont play WoW say to young / new players that its the game for them image

but seriously. the game is easy, and you guys gotta learn that. sure your 35 and are a adult, but that doesnt mean the game isnt easy. please tell me one game thats as easy to get into / level in as WoW. none? exactly. its a very easy mmorpg, and blizzard wanted it that way, so get over it. they knew they would get a lot of new players becuase of thier name, and thus created it to suite them better.

I agree, people will even make fun of you for expressing that you don't want to be generalized, but even they know your right. I guess I compare it to the whole MAC vs PC debate, people think that MAC users are all computer noobs who can't survive without the easier system... I personally like MACs and PCs... but the point is, people somehow think that an MMORPG that is simple or easy is somehow inferior. I take the side that, maybe the DEVs were soo smart that they made a game fun without a huge learning curve.

anyway... I agree with ya :)

Oh yes, I love the Mac... If they just had the same amount of games I would turn Mac in a second.

Newcomers to MMOs love the game. Old timers with not as much time on their hands as they used to have love the game. EQ fanbois don't love the game, because they are generally not either of those. Better to just consider the source, lol

I just don't pay attention to it Volkmar. Eventually I do plan on playing WoW. At the moment though my fun money is in other things. I wanna give WoW awhile before I get into it, kinda saving it for later I guess. I don' t think WoW is for immature players or anything of the sort though, with its huge player base it would be rather silly too tack down any categorizing of the players in regard too it.

I think a better challenge would be to find a game WITHOUT immature players. Not going to happen heh

Was intro'd to game at my sisters house last week & found it easy to hard:

    Easy to enter and begin a fun lower level;

Harder as one gained experience/levels & took on more difficult quests.

All in all I do believe the twits who "pan" everything in an attempt to sound superior remind me of my days in the Navy when dealing with Know-it-all Ensigns. Given time many of these twits turned out to be mature & capable pilots. Just don't react to their rather immature comments. "Ignore them & they will go away" usually works rather well.

I did find that the lag was a bit of a problem & will wait a bit to purchase the game. I find it distasteful to pay for lag.

When I first started looking at the game I said "man there are a lot of turds playing this game".  Then I realized "man there are a tonne of people playing this game", then I realized WHY they were playing the game.  Finally, I became a member of the WoW community.

The forums are huge....huge huge, amoutns of info and threads...and again I saw a lot of turds posting.  however in the end I realized that WoW is a very large MMO, a community with a very active membership and finally I realized that is simply a lot of EVERYONE playing this game.

Kids, adults, adults with kid's brains, kids with adult's brains. I don't need to defend myself when I say a large number of people have made WoW their MMO game; and in that, in the multitude of the players is one of the best, articulated, educated, mature group of community members I've ever met in my 9+ years of MMO games.

There is a core group of players in this game that have been around the block in MMOs, they've been aroudn the block in communicating with their peers and game staff.  i.e. IRL High lvl players :P

Anyone one who says they cant PvP in WoW is nuts.  Anyone who says they cant RP in WoW is nuts, anyone who says they can'T PvP and RP are nuts...this game is a game for everyone, really.....so

    agreed w/ OP and

WoW's ease of use game play hooks people, ive met alot of people who just thought this was war4 and thats why they bought it.

if your having fun with the game then thats great, everyones diffrent and has diffrent opinions.

mr.ten-thousand kills in EQ can say WoW sucks. its his opinion.

were just players, i feel bad for the people who work at blizzard. spent 10 minutes goign through blizzards forum and see all the hatred that goes on there, and its so easy to get sucked into it.

basicaly if yo don't like wow, don't play, and don't complain. alot of people like runing the fun for everyone else beacuse they feel their opinion matters or something. (see i know my opinion dosen't matter, hehe)

complains are a self replacating chain reaction. for every 1 person that complains, 3 other people do.

anyway PEACE (unless your hord, then i'm comming for you)

p.s. (unless your not on my server, then you have nothing to fear)

P.p.s (but if you are on my server, Whatch out!!!!)

nobody here was discussing the fact that WoW is "easy"to get in or level up.

The discussion here is for the fact WoW is easy to get into and level, some people consider WoW players "newbies" just for the fact they are playing it.

I don't see the difference if you are playing EQ or WoW. They are both games and both game's population should be treated with the respect they deserve. I do not consider one person a better player because he plays game X instead of Y. That is what all this is about. Nothing to do with how the game is at all.

Thanks for partecipating anyhow and thanks to all answering.
