Iam at the point where I believe most mmorpg developers should simply let Blizzard fund them under their seal of approval.

Blizzard is the “Babyface” of videogames.

Blizzard is to Videogames, as Babyface is to Music.

EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH BECOMES A HIT!!!!!

Damn I want more from the MMORPG genre, and even the CORPG genre.

Just imagine how much better the current games we have, would be if Blizzard was Developing it, or even Funding it.

Blizzard is greedy like any other standard company out there in America. They currently have WoW as the top MMORPG in the west.

Developer after Developer seems to fall into the Fail hole when it comes to making successful MMORPGs.

Well since Blizzard is in it for the money, why not strike deals with Blizzard to allow them to Fund the damn game & have a hand in the development, and let them get their share of the Sub profits.

Developers of new MMORPGs could let Blizzard publish the game.

Damn just imagine how much better the genre would be if this kind of movement would happen.

Since Blizzard would be making money off of these other developed successful MMORPGs, they wouldn’t need to focus of World of Warcraft so much, and maybe extend the popularity of newer ideas, and older concepts.

IMAGINE FOR A SEC:

If Vanguard’s developer Brad McQuaid would have took his development team to Blizzard to get the Game funded and published,,, GOT---MUG---F***ing—DAMNPWNBBQSAUSE, Vanguard would have been Everquest 4.5 or something. Way ahead of its time.

If GW would have let Blizzard Develop a Warhammer Online MMORPG, that shit would have rocked the House.  Would have been way better then the shit Mythic pulled off. You know what. If Mythic would have went to Blizzard instead of EA, Warhammer could have been DAOC 3.0 by now. But hey, we all have to learn the lesson at sometimes, that wow hatred got to go in business.

If Arena Net would have went to Blizzard to fund Guild Wars instead of NCsoft, that game would probably had a Persistent Seamless world back then, with much more power than it currently has. The Engine of GW1 would have BEEN WHERE GW2’s ENGINE IS  but EVEN BETTER WITH THINGS LIKE A SEAMLESS WORLD!!!

If Darkfall’s Developers had let Blizzard fund them/publish for them, Sandbox MMORPGs would be the New Age of MMORPG again. Damn Darkfall Online would have had way better features as a sandbox. The PvE would have been much better. Even the PvP. Many features were left out do to financial reasons.  But with Blizzard backing them, Darkfall would have been a major success in the wave of Aiming combat, and Sandbox style MMORPG development.

Conclusion:

I would really like to see more Developer published and funded by Blizzard’s Seal of Approval.

This gaming Genre would be so much better in the long run.

And with these games under Blizzard’s wing, they would no longer need to focus on World of Warcraft since World of Warcraft other Competition in the genre, would also be under Blizzard’s wing, meaning they make money off the success of these other MMORPGs as well.

I think you overrestimate Blizzard too much...

The simple thing that Blizzard does right, is that they refuse to ship products that are not fun. They are willing to take a financial hit to avoid reputation damage. Rob Pardo mentioned this in one of his interviews. They halted Starcraft Ghost because, very simply, it was not fun.

For example, most executives would ship a bad game that will only make 10 million (instead of the 100 million they projected it would make) to recoup any portion of the 20 million they spent making it. Blizzard is willing to take the 20 million hit and not put out a bad product.

Look at Diablo 3, it is a single player RPG and taking 4+ years to make. They take their time, refine, and refine more and more. Anyone can do this in theory,  but most companies have pressures from investors and publishers that wont allow them to.

I like Blizzard a lot, but this is a terrible idea.

Also, Babyface? Who the hell is Babyface. With a name like that, I'm going to assume cheesy-ass R&B music, in which case I say to you, "Son, I am dissapoint." In  your scenario, where would that leave people who enjoy indie music? SOL because we'd be forced to suffer through the generic crap.

They made one good mmo, Pretty much every mmorpg developer has made at least one good mmorpg before a screw up.

Let us just wait and see how blizzard does with the secret mmo.

    1.  Blizzard makes great games because they spend years on them.  I know they scrapped one complete version of Diablo 3 because it wasn't up to standards.  That's why there's no Blizzard North anymore.  That's why StarCraft 2 took ten years.  They spent at least four of those years just straight up making it.

    2.  Blizzard did make Warhammer Online.  It's called World of Warcraft.  That's exactly what Warcraft IS, Blizzard's version of Warhammer.

Why would you want every single game to be just like WoW?  Blizzard doesn't make a bunch of games with different methodologies.  They make games according to their method.  Other companies make games with theirs.  If Blizzard made every game, then all games would be like Blizzard's.  Which would suck.

    Important facts:
    1. Free to Play games are poorly made.
    2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals.
    3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE.
    4. Community is more important than you think.

well true. But that doesnt mean all games by Blizzard and under Blizzard's wing is the same things. just because its by Blizzard doesnt mean its a WoW clone.

Rumor of Blizzard's new MMO is a FPS Sci fi for example. So Blizzard doesnt have any problems going outside the box.

Wow... This is the dumbest thing I've ever read. No, Blizzard is not the be-all-and-end-all of MMO developers. Actually, I don't think any development company is the be-all-end-all of MMO developers, but I would say that when it comes to support and passion for their product CCP is the closest we currently have.

I like the way Paragon Studios interacts with their players. They blow Blizzard away when it comes to the interaction of the developers and community reps with their game's community.

I like the way Icarus Studios has GMs who actually chat with and interact with the players in the in-game chat. They blow Blizzard away when it comes to this.

I like the price of DDO, LORTO, etc. Those prices blow Blizzard away because they are free.

And I like Notch better than Blizzard cause he designed a game that is genuinely fun (even if it isn't an MMO) and not a game that was designed to be an addictive grind.

And there are many games with awesome features that blow the features in Blizzard's MMO away. i.e. player housing, good crafting, sandbox elements, etc. etc. I will give Blizzard one thing though: They are very good at polish. If more MMO developers realized this, we'd have a lot more genuinely good games.

And what does that have to do with Blizzard publishing the game? They still make money off of Box sells. And the Development would have more funding to get things finished what they started.

Look him up in the guinness book of records. you my be surprised.

He's not in the Guinness Book of World Records. At least he's not in the online version under his real name (Kenneth Edmonds) or his fake name (Babyface).

What I'm surprised about is that people actually listen to the following lines and then proclaim him some kind of master of making music:

Girl it's been a long, long time comin', yes it has

But I, I know that it's been worth the wait

It feels like springtime in winter

It feels like Christmas in June

It feels like heaven has opened up it's gates for me and you

That is just... 7th grade level poetry right there. From reading a few of his songs, it appears almost every one of them is about pining for a woman.

I don't wanna go clubbing, I got no one to dance with me

I don't wanna go shopping, I got no one to spend my money on

Spending my time with one glass of wine

Playing solitaire just to ease my mind

Poured one for you, but I drank that too

Anything to kill the pain of losing you

He not even willing to go CLUBBING? He must be feeling the pain deeply.

I don't think Blizzard want to ruin their own brand name.

The thing is Blizzard would cancel some of their previous project because they don't think it's polish enough.

A huge part of Blizzard's success is brand loyalty.  Making a few project in which all of them makes alot of money is better than making a bunch of project and non of them is profitable.

It almost kills me to say that because i spent three years playing wow but its true.

Hardly. Blizzards best programmer during it's entire history have always been Jeff Strain (Diablo, Warcraft 3, Wow) and he made the engine both for GW1 and GW2.

It is true that with proper funding from the start would GW been very different, it would be somewhere in between GW 1 and GW2 because Strain wanted to make a open world game but couldn't afford it. Then they got in a lot of money together with enough reputation to get a loan for the rest and therefor they made GW2.

But Blizzards know how wouldn't help the least since ANET in fact were founded by some of Blizzards former best people. And I can tell you one thing, if Blizzard were involved the game would have monthly fees.

As for the rest, Blizzard do have competent people and Sigil and many others would have done a lot better if they could borrow a few competent programmers but even Blizzard have a very limited number of really good people, there are not that many talented people around.

There is a reason Blizz releases so few games even if they have loads of money, they have far more money that talented people. There is no chance they could release 2 games every year, they would be total junk.

I have the highest respect for Blizzard but your idea is impossible and besides that it would turn Blizzard into another EA. EA made fun games a long time ago, but not anymore and now all they touch turn to crap.

Then would it not be more logical to say "other MMO developers should take a page out of Blizzard's playbook and not release games until they are finished?" Why do we need this stupid Blizzard "Seal of Approval" crap?

Aww. Someone reported him. For the record, it wasn't me.

And to get back on topic: No one needs Blizzard's approval just like no one needs Babyface's approval. If people started asking Babyface for approval on everything, nothing original would come out. Same goes for Blizzard.
