I'm pretty positive you are still going to have to buy the game... you can't just get a free pass and then sub from there you need an actual CD-KEY i would imagine.

LOL I wonder now if you will put your money where your mouth is!

I think maybe you should research more. Buddy keys are actual retail keys. SOmeone gives you a buddy key, it's the same as if they bought you the game as a gift. All you have to pay is the subscription.

Yeah, it'll never happen. SE are more likely to freeze subs for another month or two, but even that is a stretch.

    It wouldn't be smart.

Shutting down the servers so that they can "work on the game" is stupid because it shafts all those who actually ARE playing the game right now.. and for what? In lieu of all those who aren't? They can work on it while the game runs. Server maintenance and upgrades can be prepared to be done during the alloted weekly downtimes, like every other MMO.

How many commercial MMOs have successfully survived a re-release, specifically one so close to the original release?

    Don't worry, I'll wait.

.. But in a good way.

I can easily see them having to give at least another 30 days free. The so-called "big" December update will be after most have used up their 60 days ( mine ends Dec 6th, actually ), so there still won't be anything to hold many people in outside of "promises"..

So they better work their asses off and make the November updates count if they plan to start getting money from this game.

I canceled my CE preorder so yes I saved $80.00.  As for you, Im pretty sure at some point you are going to have to fork over the $50 to keep playing.  As far as I am aware(and feel to correct me) you cant just start subbing off a buddy pass and not actualyl purchase the game, at least not at this time.

After a conversation with a CS rep, we actually found out that my friend won't have to fork over 50$ and he will just be charged the monthly rate after the 60 days.

This is precisely why I wish people wouldn't put all their hopes on the PS3 version being the saviour for FFXIV..

This is my game for the next decade.  You better replace fanboi with Zealot.

The game will only get more elegant as time continues to flow.

    =)

Sadly I keep lookg back at the game to see if it has improved any but I'm just so unsure of what has been going on since launch. The crafting in this game is very tedius and I'm not even sure I want to spend 3 hours a night trying to fgure out crafting recipes.

You could wait a bit (probably not much longer if at all) until all the information is online and a "path of least resistance" to raise crafting jobs is thought up. I plan on punching things until that happens on my Lala.

.. But in a good way.

Actually crafting is sooooooo easy to lvl that is kinda annoying.

I lumber/mine and get on 80-100 rank exp and 400 exp every time I succede else if you fail you get 50 rank exp while fighting it's randomly given and if you want many exp you need to use weak attacks so the monster takes a lot to die >_>

What I really hate atm is that leve quests only have 4-6 monsters never say 20 monsters to kill.. it's just a waste using 10 points for guardian's buff then finish in less then 5 min :(

But best way to lvl I heard is getting into an exp party but since people barely chat it's hard to know if anyone is looking for people or not.

Well anyways I'm nearly 15 so can start again the story quest hopefully it gets again interesting a little i'm surely not giving up so early.

What server is everyone on anyways? I reside on Besaid.

Quick question though.. is there anywhere online that would have a guide for what I would need to quick-switch to any other Job?

.. But in a good way.

Erm what problems? I am in Europe and subbed up just fine using my Credit Card rather than PayPal (because I don't have nor do I want a payPal Account)

I am sticking it out as well, Bit gutted I just dont have time to play it as much as I want at the moment due to RL commitments (Saving for Wedding etc) so work comes first, Partner comes second adn gaming comes in whenver I get a weekend off

Should be enough to understand it's not that hard really :) (Only wish you could drag macros instead of editing to add a new one in it's slot).

I'm sticking it out.  There are a lot of little improvements that could be made to the game, but overall the good outweighs the bad.  I love the multiclass system, combat is fun and strategic, best crafting I have seen in any game.  I'm on Figaro, doesnt seem to be too many english speaking players there, but I've put in enough time that it would be rough changing servers.

I am sticking it out as well. Enjoying the game so far. Playing very casually, which probably helps.

I do have to say that their crafting system has me hooked. I enjoy the local leve quests.

Like most people have already commented, the game needs improvments but like ALL newly released MMO's nothings really new on that end. The game is playable and I enjoy the main systems in the game.

Im on Wutai server as well. Teno Swagger. (don't have my sig updated here with my FFXIV sig yet.)

They SHOULD treat the game B2P tho'.

Cuz it's not worth a subscription. Even after the freebie days are up.

Failed to stick it out.  5 weeks in had to quit had enough.  Now need to figure where go back to old game or try a new one really depressed from this game having hard time deciding what to do other than bash FFXIV as much as I can.

Multiclass system is what made FFXI the best game out there, problem is FFXIV does it worse than FFXI.Combat is strategic yes,but again  it takes a backseat to FFXI.Crafting is again good ,but done badly in that you cannot be self sufficient, you need to rely on others because to make it realistic ,they figure nobody in the game could possibly have the skills to be self sufficient /sarcasm,again takes a backseat to FFXI.

Moral of the story, the whole game takes a backseat to FFXI ,so they wasted all that time and money to deliver a lesser version of FFXI with better graphics. What really baffles my mind is that they create this new game engine at a huge expense and it really offers nothing to modern tech ,it is like a 15 year old game engine that is capable of higher res textures and that is it.

The biggest thing about FFFXIV and it is a BAD thing ,is that this is not Tanaka's game,he is sitting back allowing others to do all the thinking, this is why this game turned out badly with many bad decisions,i am not so sure Tanaka will ever take charge of a game again,i think he is sitting high on the throne now ,taking it easy collecting the big salary.IMO Tanaka has been sitting out since those cheap lazy xpacs that FFXI has been offering, those kupo de'tat or whatever they are,and the newer ones like Abyssea, again cheap lazy efforts,Square has done nothing to gain my confidence since TOAU xpac and even that one ruined the game for all the old zones.

I could never stick this game out ,just because of better graphics,i could never see myself playing a lesser version of FFXI,when i could just play FFXI .Worst of all, unless i see positive influence from Tanaka on any Sqaure game,i have little confidence that they will rebound,Square is in serious trouble.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Combat "could" be strategic, all the abilites are there, but it takes a backseat to how people gain SP.  The best way to get SP is to mimic auto attack with your level 1 ability, or if you're a healer, HOPE that people take damage to get SP off them (rather than trying to prevent people from taking damage).

At this point you have healers asking tanks to take off their armor, everyone spamming level 1 attacks to maximise number of hits and thus chances at getting a little SP, grinding on mobs without quests, over and over, with no dungeons or bosses or goals of any kind really except to level up.  Is that really "fun and strategic"?

Crafting is interesting in theory but once you hit around level 15 you get pretty bored of the mini-game (which can be "won" by simply pressing enter over and over and doing standard synth).

    And that's "the good" apparently...

Once they make it worthwile SP-wise (if they ever do) to play your class(es) to the best of your ability and battles are ACTUALLY fun and exciting, and they reward you sufficiently for fighting harder mobs, then the game will at least be playable.  It'll still be a questless grind with no endgame, but at least it will be kind of fun.... maybe.

It's not at all guaranteed they will do that though.  They've said from the start they don't want class roles, so they want to make any 3 people to be just as effective as any other 3 people grouping to fight a mob.  That means that the level 1 attack will probably always be the best way to get SP.

It would be like in WoW if by say level 20 you got all these abilities, but the best way to fight and level was to just attack a mob and let auto-attack kill them.  Nobody sane would call that kind of fighting "fun and exciting".

That wouldn't happen in WoW though because you're rewarded for killing fast and efficiently, just like in every MMORPG (including FFXI).  FFXIV, on the other hand, with the way the SP system is set up, rewards mediocrity and thoughtless spamming, hoping NOT to kill a mob until you get your max 500 SP from it.  That's flawed from the start and you can't really talk about there being any "good" to outweigh the bad until that system is totally fixed.
