Thats good. a few month lead will get more bored gamers to try Rift and maybe have a decent turnover.

Im interested in Rift but if the game releases at the same time or after GW2/SWTOR ill have to put it on the back burner and wait for a trial.

I'd happen to think that it would be publishing suicide if either Rift ot Tera didnt release cleanly and competetntly at least 4-5 months before GW2 and SWTOR.

And for my own selfish reasons, as I think you mentioned, GW2 and SWTOR will get my dollar before Rift or Tera if they launched at the same time.

Guild wars 2 looks more and more like a Alt mmorpg, like most f2p mmorpg feel. Rift on the other hand, seems like it has a chance to be big, and not just another alt mmo.

RIft's developers stated the game is finished already. That means they are polishing the game even more, unlike other developments that push out unfinished products.

No, GW2 is not coming before Q1, probably Q2 or Q3.

Still, I believe Q1 for Rift when the game actually releases. And frankly will I rather wait until Q4 for both the games then have one  or both releasing too early, nothing good comes out of a thing like that.

To me it sounds like you guys are in a hurry, even though I think most of you like me rather want a complete game than to have it buggy at launch.

Just relax, both games seems very nice and most of us can afford playing both if they are good enough, something wa can't be sure until the open beta.

I think 2011 and 2012 will be great MMO years but I fail to see what it matters if Rift or GW2 releases first. Besides, I hope neither launches in January, it is too close to Cata.

Dont rush it, 3 years is not that long cryptic took nearly 2 years on their mmos and they turned out Shyte.   Release when it has enough content and enough polish to hit the ground running, otherwise what looks like a game with HUGE potential will end up just another AoC/Warhammer/every other mmo thats failed to contend.

Ya know...perhaps.  I've played about all the mmorpgs and never played 2 at the same time, so I never got into that alt mentality.  I really dont want to get too optomistic about anything, because over the last few years or so, it's ended in disappointment.

And three years of development? Some need 4-5. Im not sure if Rift will be the first to release, I hope they will listen to feedback given to them and release it when it is ready. The class system is very interesting and I would give it a look no matter when it comes out (since I won't have to pay a subscription fee for Guild Wars 2 and Star Wars, dont see what the hype is about).

So I hope they won't rush it, but I could see it being released before GW2 and SWTOR.

I think swtor is most probably going to be p2p.

Yeah, unless they pull a 180 at the end SWTOR is P2P

  • I know that SWTOR is P2P, I meant "and SWTOR I don't know what the hype is about", meaning I won't be playing SWTOR. Sorry if my sentence was confusing.

They are developing the game for 3 years, but they are developing the platform for 4-5 years. As far as I know they use the same platform for other games, too.

From what I hear from the alpha-testers the game is already very polished.

But, as always - you never know before release day :)

    Currently playing: EverQuest
Waiting for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Ahh, ok...I am interested in SWTOR, but  to be honest, I am VERY skeptical about it, I am not mr. quest/story, so if their seems to be too much and the game seems too linear, then I will not like it, but its too early to tell.

I hope that Rift/GW2 and SWTOR are real good, then I have more options if I dislike or get tired of something, but I am truely eyeing Rift as my main game.

There was an NCSoft article somewhere.. but damned if I can recall where now, that slated both Guild Wars 2 and Blade and Soul as not being released until 2012.

So if that is anywhere near accurate that would mean GW2 would be last to come by some margin. However I also haven't watched any poscasts so there may be newer information there.

So my take is Rifts/Tera both in Q1 next year.

SWTOR would be Q3-4 next year.

    GW2 Q4 or Q1 2012.

An article posted by mmosite which means its forged to be sensationalist or its fake (btw I heard the entire talk of the report, listened shit about release dates and betas)

In fact GW2 launch is still a mystery, but people agree it ranges from Q2 to Q4 2011

    But I would say

1- Tera/Rift on the same quarter

    2- SW:TOR some time later

3- GW2 between mid of the year +-

    Just a prediction of course

Tbh I didn't really take in a lot of article, just skimmed it at the time, and I've never really seen much of the site so I'll take your word on the accuracy.

Your prediction is almost the same as mine anyway ;)

This thread is about Rift's and the other game's release date compared to each other and which will come first not which game will be better and how good they will do, there are other threads for that.

He wasn't saying which will be best, but in which order he believes the games to come out. No need to get defensive.

Unless he's delusional, he'd be well aware that GW2 is absolutely nowhere near launch (whereas Rift is right around the corner) so no, his list WAS based off which game he is most looking forward to.

I thought this was fairly obvious, funny how it completely flew over your head though...

think it depends on what you think of is rushing a game out, seems to me that TRIONs tactic is to get the game out asap, in a state they think everyone will be okay with, as in all combat and crafting related mechanics work, but not alot of "fluff" included if any at all, everytime someone ask for housing, cloaks, mentoring, mini games and so on, they say it wont make it in for release but certainly something they want in after release.

so far the fluff in RIFT, for what Ive read, is collections and vanity pets...and guess will see how much fluff the collections really is -  actually get to imagine that is the way to gain alot of them pets.

am rather certain they will release in Q1, and not in a bad shape, just not much of fun out of combat...love the little that have been shown from their world visually tho, but it wont be complete in the same way as GW2 - if they keep their promises.

  • XthosXthos Member UncommonPosts: 2,740

Well, they stated that they have a list of what should be in the game at launch, and they will make sure that all those things work properly.  A lot of reviewers have stated that in months ago alpha, the game was more polished than many games nowadays at release.  I don't see how that is rushing?  When you have a ton of options, and a lot of bugs, you piss people off.  Its better to polish the core game, then add fluff.  I would rahter the core game be great, than they worry about some purple/pink unicorn people can get.

The game will have atleast 3 raid zones at launch, a lot of games release with unfinished end game raid zones, and try to race to complete them, before the power gamers can get to them, which hardly ever works, and then the hardcore gamers get all up in arms, while the normal players don't care, but its bad publicity and a bad practice.

So I would call it having a list and sticking to priorities, then taking stuff not deemed needed on day 1, and putting it in the pile to do later.  We will see how it works out.

They said they want to make sure what they put in works, and not dilute it with a ton of stuff, and have half of it not working properly.  They have not commited to housing even after release, I hope they do, but its not guaranteed.
