We aren't living in the 1950s anymore... just because the women you meet in MMOs "claim" they aren't single doesn't mean they don't enjoy THAT kind of attention. In the real world everything is always complicated.. so why can't it be the same in MMOs?
You need to read between the cute typos and overused smilies... you'll realize even married women like to roleplay they are single college chicks once in a while. I think the inherit reasons of why ppl enjoy MMOs so much is centered around leading a double life. Remember that on the internet anyone can lie about anything... it doesn't matter whats true all that matters is that everyone is having fun.
I think the first mistake you made was that you are the one looking for women. Instead you should try acting and talking in such a way that invites women to look for you. An openly flirtatious humour with a little bit kinky attitude is a good thing... Just be yourself but be larger than life. If your looking for MMO love, you will never find it because you need to have the love first for yourself and it needs to show in the way you express yourself to others.
Nobody is looking for lonely sad people to hang out with in game regardless of gender. It's better to just leave it in the back of your mind and adopt a free-love approach. When a female ousts herself as a female-playing-an-mmo she's inviting everyone else to treat her as such. The way you talk to a known-MMO-girl is very different from the way you'd talk to the other guys in your guild. These are the girls your mother warned you about.
The trick is to find the closet-MMO-chicks who won't talk in vent and won't say anything to give away their gender secret cuz she knows as soon as the community knows she's a girl her experience with said MMO will never be the same ever again.
This one girl I played with, we were great friends and always played together for over a year. That year she did nothing to let on that she was a girl. Her playskill along with everything else were judged as if she were just some dude, and she loved it because she was just one of the guys.. Something that a really hot girl IRL would never ever experience.
After that year she felt we were close enough and revealed herself to me one night... and it was a full reveal, i was up till morning dawned!
Don't look for love in MMOs... look for a good time, flirt with everybody and put yourself out there in as many ways possible... I think it's the exact same way it works IRL.
Well written with thought and sincerity Sir. One question though, by saying she gave you a "full reveal" were you meaning she called you on the phone to speak to you? Or was everything spoken in game typing non expression?
The reason I ask is because some people have a flare for the dramatic, and this person could well have been a guy that liked a shock ending of his game time in that game with you. Not to be malicious, but just to end with something to make you ponder.
This isn't a very unique story, in fact I've known of it happening well over 10 other times with just a few details turned around.
So this was EQ1 era and 2 guys I met at work (horrible tech support job, but we had fun) shared an apartment with me. By the end of 2001 they were both in relationships that brought 2 females into our abode. Which wasn't a big deal because it was a 3 bedroom apartment that I'd give anything to get again for the price we were paying... Moving on.
Well they got introduced to our mutual obsession of Everquest. 3 high end computers on a ADSL connection lead to some good gaming and a funny sort of musical chairs of nonstop gaming. Any 3 of us would be online while someone was either working or what not. Really for over a solid year we were living pretty high class as nerds. My girlfriend at the time was raised in a technophobe home so she didn't get into the game at all. Which didn't bother me because on my computer... Well ICQ and in game logs imparted upon me some ill information.
I did what any 20 year old professional did in 2002, I deleted that crap from my computer because I wasn't going to step inbetween my roommate and his girl in any sort of way. In hindsight that was a pretty wise move. Even tho' each of my roommates were a little older than me, I think they're still way more immature than me and they'd have reacted poorly and somehow blamed me. Here's where things get interesting.
Oldest roommate and his now wife all of a sudden join the National Guard and plan on moving out, which was cool they had the cash and obviously a married couple needs room and at this time the COOLNESS of having a bunch of nerds together was wearing thin. Also our jobs literally got shipped to India, but that too is a whole new rant. Anyway, wife suddenly adds computer number 4 to our den of computers and expansion pack pyramids (EQ's still kind of notorious for that aren't they?) and when the issue of "We were saving our enlisting bonus' for our relocation." "Oh I didn't buy this. Lorlak said we were going to wake the Sleeper and needed more of us on so he sent me his old computer."
Clever. Very clever. Just.. She was in a room filled with 3 guys who basically nursed on old Apple 2s and IBM machines, that computer was brand new and probably had like a 40 gig hard drive in it... (fufufu old specs make me happy) Well that ended the matter anyway and suddenly my pal had to spy on Lorlak the dwarf priest 24/7. And also not it was everyone's job to find out as much real-life information on Lorlak as possible and facebook wasn't around just yet to make this easy.
Lorlak's profile (made up name btw I done forgot what the real name was) 19 year old manager of a Taco Bell somewhere in Ohio. He liked LARPing, VtM, and hanging out in ADULT role playing chat rooms. I learned all of this from a infoseek search and a poorly crafted angelfire page.
By the time I could relay this information my pal's wife was up and gone with the new computer and her Mom's car. She done went to Ohio to hang out with the dwarf of her dreams.
The thing is tho' she came back and had this weird excuse.
Long story short things got real ugly then, we all moved to different places, and I still play some games from time to time with my two buddies.
My other roommate went through like 5 girls during the process of all of this and they all STILL play MMOs with us but have their own families and what not.
Well written with thought and sincerity Sir. One question though, by saying she gave you a "full reveal" were you meaning she called you on the phone to speak to you? Or was everything spoken in game typing non expression?

Ventrilo conversation that went to pic exchange that went to webcam. Everything you thought I was implying.
She was so gorgeous I asked her for another pic with today's newspaper cuz I thought she wasn't legit... so that led to webcam.
I kinda knew she was a girl but I had no idea how hot she was.
They are out there but they are hiding from the mobs of horny men... or they will ask you for a credit card number.

Oh, I didnt think you were Implying anything, My chain of thought was that the full reveal blew your mind and you couldnt sleep. But thanks for the clarity, I am inclined to believe the proof now and retract my previous querry.
I remember the time i met this hot, sexy night elf in wow, it was love at first sight, we would quest together, run off behind the gold mine in the basin just to play some slap and tickle, naughty little whispers' in the night
It was a wonderful relationship, until , once i was at our spot, and couldn't find her, I was shattered, turns out, she had gone to booty bay, and hooked up with a bad crowd, dragged her off to kalimdor, where i understand she is still a bandit to this day..:'|
was a sad day, but i will always remeber those 93 minutes we had together............
** I do in fact know of a couple people who met online and then IRL, eventually hooked up and got married, and are happily gaming to this day
I've found a bunch of single ones, but I always meet the slutty girls.(Which is great until you see they are only loyal to themselves)
Honestly tho these days... MMOs and ventrilo are like Call-Girl/Web-Cam-Girl training grounds...
If you chance happen to get into vent with a Call-Girl in training just remember one thing... don't ever bring attention to the fact that they are training to enter the sex trade, that will get you an instant ignore.

They are the attention seeking sluts with unresolved father issues... often found cybering with guild leaders to put them in the ideal loot getting positions.
Some might even be honest enough to tell you that "Other guys tell me my voice is so sexy I should become a Call-Girl"
Don't hate on them tho, they are just playing a different kind of MMO than you. There is always enough lovin' to go around.
I think the main idea here is to never expect a relationship. If there is a relationship there, like in RL, it will develop on its own.. otherwise it's just two adults playing games that adults enjoy.
Personally, out of experience, I make it guild policy to keep that kind of stuff out of game out of guild vent. Just like someone said earlier... a 24 man raid is NOT the place to be trying out your latest pick up lines and overly flirty commentary.

The best kind of drama in an MMO is when a guild leader's online girlfriend is caught cybering with a guild leader in a rival guild. True story... WoW Gorefiend server about 4 years ago. The forum trolls made it 100x times worse/better.
The ratio of fling to marriage starting from an in-game meet is probably the same as it is in RL.
Lots and lots of horror stories with a small percentage of hope.
And it's the attitude of many men that scares women away, so that they either won't reveal their gender or say they already have a husband/boyfriend. Why treat girl gamers differently? Most I met are just as serious and dedicated as "us" boy gamers and some are really good players. But as soon as their gender is revealed, they are not treated as simply good players, but as dateable material that should be protected and who doesnt know how a MMORPG works.
I tried making my girlfriend play some time ago. Some player came up and asked her "u girl?" when she answered yes, he asked her to become his GF. When she told him she wasn't interested, he basically began stalking her, killing the mobs she was attacking and spamming her with questions like "u have facebook? show me ur pic..." and such things. After that, she never looked at any MMO again. I can't really blame her, but I blame those male who think MMO are a place to find someone to date. Go outside, there are a lot of nice girls out there. Or, if you really want a gamer girl, go to a convention or something.
The only time when I think it is ok is when someone is roleplaying.
marriage saver : if you play mmos get your wife playing too. it cuts down on the "spend more time with me" junk.
We have 3 kids, a night out for dinner and a movie costs us about $75-$125 for a sitter (oldest kid has aspergurs, it's not easy finding a sitter for a special needs kid) , $20 at the movies minimum plus dinner out. for one night.
MMO sub = isp which we'd have anyway plus $30 per month for both accounts. 30ish days of duoing when there's nothing else to do. hmmmmmm deal.
for my wife's first mothers day I busted ass to get her a pair of lanseax' for her warrior on EQ. She was happy with that.
Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed. Current mmo's grouping: tinder. swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.

Yup, when my wife starting playing wow she orginially played a female character. She wasn't 5 levels in before she deleted the character and restarted as a male character, because of this exact behavior.
Hell, I use to play some female characters myself until I was asked the same exact things. Then it's this kind of behavior that makes me hesitant to let my kids play games like this either, because a lot of these people have a lot nastier things to say.

That was the censored version of what he said. I was with her at that time and I really wanted to give him some comments back, but my girlfriend thought answering him would be too childish. Some of the things he said wouldn't have been save for children to see and Im not sure I can post them here. Down the road, she just blocked him, but that didn't stop him for following her for a good 3 hours before she just quit and stayed clear of MMOs afterwards. As I said, I can't blame her.
Makes me wonder if there should be real consquences for sexual harassment in games or whether or not they should be able to continue to hide behind the anonymity.
You walk around on the streets of a major city and say things like that to someone and they can have the police picking you up sooner than later.
this thread is full of fail. Everyone making assumptions that he's trying to find a girlfriend in mmos when all he did was ask how many females have we met that were taken/single. To answer the op, i've only met 2 that were single, one of them had some online stalker (this was WoW). STORY TIME!
This isn't a very unique story, in fact I've known of it happening well over 10 other times with just a few details turned around.

Q: How many females in a MMO are taken already?
A. Unknown
I've found a bunch of single ones, but I always meet the slutty girls.(Which is great until you see they are only loyal to themselves)
i cant help but think this is retarded in some way. your actually going into MMO's to hook up with girls? OK.......
it depresses me that people find "love" in MMO games. Like someone mentioned, "Its so easy to lie on the internet"
Also If I can't see them how do I know I want to do naughty things to them.
It's called MMO immersion.. duh
Oh yeah. I should start playing with a raging erection. seems like im missing out on some of the immersion.
Kill the dragon in the castle of love , and retrieve the Great Club of Boom Boom .
Man with as many "in-game" wedding I've been to.. You'd be surprised.
What bothers me are the guys who get the raging erection while pvping as a girl toon and telling everyone it's spanking time. (true story)
Oh, I didnt think you were Implying anything, My chain of thought was that the full reveal blew your mind and you couldnt sleep. But thanks for the clarity, I am inclined to believe the proof now and retract my previous querry.
