Can any1 RECOMMEND a FAST PACED (hack&slash etc) MMORPG?

KrelianKrelian Member UncommonPosts: 385

Greetings!

I have tried out most any MAJOR mmorpg out there and i was wondering if i somehow missed a good fast paced hack&slash mmo in the mix?

Previously i tried out games such as wow, war, aion, swg, anarchy online, ffxi, everquest 2 and so on.

They all have their ups and downs, but they all kinda feel ''too slow'' to me nowadays. Fights sorta take too long against individual enemies your level (CHOOSING  some certain classes in game can help allivate this problem, but it doesnt solve it)

And, im a little bored of 5 minutes of AUTO ATTACK sword swings with some minor imput to see who comes on top of the fight, me or the mob?

Im thinking of SOMETHING LIKE: the DIABLO of MMORPGS..

Is there anything that comes close?

Thank you!

Try Vindictus. I haven't gotten the chance to play it a ton but it is action oriented. You should also try Dungeons & Dragons Online.

Did you try Age of Conan? Best combat system in a MMO imo. Very fast paced.

Vindictus is good as well, though not much variety in what you fight...and the "instances" are all pretty much the same of each other.

If you haven't tried it, Vindictus is a fast paced game, it borders on the definition of MMO but it has fast paced combat with no auto attack and seems like what your looking for.  You mention D series which is dungeon crawlers and thats half of what that game is. Crawling through various dungeons.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

BUT maybe the game IS available in EU, and i downloaded the wrong client?? uhh, not likely, eh?

    thx for the reply though..

Age of Conan,, yeah, this one sounds interesting  too : ) But i heard that game was extremly buggy, i guess they must have gotten the game into a better shape by now`?

It's gotten a lot of bad press, but it's an ok game -- you can try "Darkfall".

    Darkfall?

    Its that (mostly)pvp game, right?

I love pvp!! (depending on the game, i like eve and war pvp)

BUT  is pvp in darkfall like eve? (Meaning, you got ''safe'' zones to level up and do stuff AND THAN you got ''LESS SAFE'' spots where you know, if u go in there, there is a MUCH BIGGER CHANCE that you might get ur azz kicked,,

    OR

is it more like Lineage 2 pvp (FROM RELEASE) where people can and will kill you anywhere and anytime? (outside the newb town gates)

    Cheers!

    @GamerAeon

Yeah, i checked it out, almost nothing at vindictus eu site, except for example a link to facebook, where one can read'' vindictus will be coming to europe later this year'' or something like that, dont even know if they are talking about 2010, or 2011 :D

Kinda funny that one game(mmo) i might be interested right now is out of my reach for now, Oh well.

    BTW

Im checking out AOC, combat rules, fatality FTW!

ONLY PROBLEM is, my herald of Xotli ISN'T HOLDING HIS SWORD, it just floats in the air every time i draw it, which is kinda wierd since i woulda thought they would have worked out such little bugs until now.

Anybody knows a fix for that? rying to re-equip the sword usually puts it in your hands, but than again after a few swings its floating back in the air...

but this is only a small kink ofcourse, so thanks for aoc recommendation:)

Darkfall is less friendly than eve honestly.  The only save spots are NPC towns(no mobs or anything there though).

However even towns if your clan is at war with someone they can still attack you in town.

My recommendation is join a clan to get help and some decent gear to get you thorugh leveling.  But, make sure it has a city or hamlet that you can use for a base of operations so you don't get killed by griefers when they come through the noob areas.

    Did you try Dekaron ?

I'm playin it right now and it's pritty good.

Take a look at some gameplay vids on youtube, this would be your best bet for a 3D third person actiony MMORPG if you don't like or can't play Vindictus.

I usually swiftly turn my nose up at F2P MMO's. I hated LOTRO F2P, EQ2 F2P, all Korean F2P's (and I've played a LOT through the years out of sheer boredom). Vindictus, however, has greatly surprised me. I went into it with a terrible attitude and am quite impressed. It plays like a RPG (to pinpoint it more closely, Final Fantasy Tactics style) as far as interaction with NPCs and I actually enjoy the characters. So yea, a little gem in the pool of sewage.

EDIT: It's unfortunate you live in EU. Maybe you can mask yourself with an American IP? :D

He who keeps his cool best wins.

The latter.  Darkfall is much more brutal than Eve.

The combat itself is fast paced, the skill grinding system isn't.  Not sure if it makes much of a difference to you.  It's a really good game if your into the FFA PvP scene, but its a game that requires quite a bit of dedicated time.

Darkfall, but you may want to wait until the offline skilling systems hits.

Darkfall doesn't even come close to what the OP described.  You guys are just saying it because its your personal favorite.

Vindictus is almost precisely a Diablo game. Except... improved, and not lame-old "Birds-Eye" view with nothing new or exciting coming to the table (Ala Diablo 3).

    OP. Try Vindictus.

1> Its hack'n'slash. fast paced combat.

2> Its based out of a single town where your missions/quests are not far away that progress further down a storyline and take you to new areas. (ala diablo?)

3> The character models and ALL animations in the game are absolutely amazing.

4> The armor and skill system is solid and, at least, reminds me of Diablo's.

5> The game is 100% free.

Everyone should try it, if they like Hack'n'Slash.

Yeah, but if you'd bother to read the thread, the OP has already ruled out Vindictus due to him being in EU. It IS a great game imo, although it's new so I wouldn't recommend to anyone that they rush through it.

Darkfall IS a good game, it can be fast-paced when you're at the right level of large-scale PvP. It does take a lot of time to grind up there and become familiar with the game tho, but so does EVE, so you'll probably be fine. There's a 14-day trial so you can try it for yourself, AND there's an EU server. There was recently an $8 sale of the game along with the first month, if you do ever wanna buy it, I recommend waiting for any form of sale.

Also, DF and EVE are nothing like WoW and Aion in the sense that when you PvP, you don't do it for set accomplishments, such as rank and honor points. DF has a pink slip concept, you kill someone and you can loot anything they have on them. Like EVE, DF has a good butterfly effect too. Anyways, it's really up to you, DF is a good place to give your clan and yourself a name that can be recognized, especially since there's only one NA and EU server.

Darkfall is a very slow-paced game overall but the combat is the fastest pace that I have ever come across. The quests are definitely more of the hack n slash style without stupid quests like Deliver this twig to Legolas or something along those lines . .. Vindictus looks like fun but not a better suggestion than Darkfall when he already said that he cannot play Vindictus. Also AoC and DDO which were mentioned are not as much of a hack and slash as Darkfall imo because the storyline and quests are more ellaborate while Darkfall is more of create your own storyline, everything that you do effects other people pretty much, and its all about the combat for the most part. I think that it is too hack n slash for many people who would rather be going from quest giver to quest giver and watching movies of his storyline. Darkfall just gets right to the point similar to hack n slash tabletop RPGs without any fluff that other games can force you through to unlock more content. There are no level restrictions so you can just fight anything that you want from the beginning. The PVP is more edge-of-your-seat than Vindictus because it matter more when you die and you are rewarded more when you win. Darkfall sounds like a great game to hack n slash in . .. you can hack on anything that has HP from the beginning.

  • If you like lobby games then try Vindictus, imo the entire game is waaay too repetitive.

If you like open world games try Darkfall, it's only repetitive if you grind 24/7 which you don't have to at all.
